日本を舞台に世界各地で目覚めた怪物同士が戦うという異色の格闘アクションゲーム「キング･オブ･ザ･モンスターズ」。プレイヤーは特徴の異なる6種類のモンスターから1匹を選び、怪物の中の王者になるのがこのゲームの目的。ルールはプロレスに近く、相手からフォールを取れば勝ちとなる。8方向レバーでと3つのボタンを組み合わせて、様々な技を繰り出すことができるが、 大技を決めるとパワーボールが出現、一定量を集めればパワーアップし必殺技も変化。日本の主要都市や実在の建物が登場し、キャラクターが動き回るごとに崩れ落ちていく様はストレス発散である。プレイヤー同士の対戦プレイも可能となっている。全12ステージ。
ストーリー:
人類の手によって地球は汚染され続け、地上には有害な紫外線、宇宙線が降り注ぎはじめた。そして、異常事態は密かに進行しつつあった――― 1996年。想像を絶する凶悪モンスター達が世界各所から一斉に出現。モンスター同士が出会えばさらに事態は悪化に。戦車を踏みつぶし、戦闘機を投げとばし、都市は無残に崩れ落ちてゆく。破壊の限りを尽くす巨大異色格闘技、いま地響きをあげながら日本に迫る。

King of the Monsters is one of the best arcade games of all time. King of the Monsters is truly a classic. The music and sound effects were just as perfect as the graphics. I love the way Astro Guy had a type of rock-n-roll type background music. The background music for each character matched them perfectly.
Replay Burners is a treasure of archival longplays. Fantastic skill and wonderful capture. Thank you very much for your work.
当時は小四（？）くらいでしたがビデオ屋の隅に置いてあるこのゲームやって「ゲーセン（ビデオゲーム筺体）で出来るゲームってめちゃくちゃすげー」って感動した覚えがありますｗ
キングオブザモンスターズはただ対戦してるだけじゃなくて人々が住んでる町がよく出来ていたり、人類が防衛してくる様がよりゲームを華やかに見せますねー

この感じだと、カウントは「ワンツースリー」だけど
