    To anyone who thinks they can’t draw-Sika I’m looking you lol-drawing is a learned skill. When I started art school I couldn’t draw and one of my professors sat me down and had a serious but very encouraging talk about want to be an artist vs working to be an artist.
    He said I needed to practice a lot more so I asked for extra work and he gave me a list of exercises and ideas and I drew my heart out. At the end of the semester he asked me to come talk to him after class, I was terrified. He made me take out my first and last assignment of the semester and look at the difference. We were both in shock at how much I had improved.
    I’m not saying I can draw anything and everything, but I’m pretty damn good at what I do. And if I can do it, you can too.
    And thank you both for bringing me back to my childhood and remembering days of shrinky dinks! So much fun!!! Love you both to pieces!

    • @katelillo1932
      @katelillo1932 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is so true! I think a lot of people believe drawing ability is something you’re born with but it doesn’t have to be! I decided I wanted to teach myself to draw in my late twenties. You can learn to draw at any age if you want to, and you shouldn’t be afraid to practice and make things you don’t love - not every drawing has to be perfect and even the “bad” ones teach you what techniques you like or don’t 👍

    Sakura glitter pens are amazing on shrink plastic, I love it, you just have to remember to give it time to go back to its original size... made embellishments, key chains all sorts
    You can also use a craft heat gun to shrinkage plastic, and to make sure its flat, just use the bottom of a glass to flatten it. Remember the plastic is returning to its original size, during manufacture its stretched into thin sheets.
    Great video as always jackie. Hope you are mending well and managing some crafting, sending much love x

    • @rambaby23
      @rambaby23 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The glitter condenses, and because it's superfine in the pens the results are amazing. I found the darker colours gave the best results and we're opaque! If you can get white shrink plastic the colours are better. Also use an alcohol ink pad and use rubber stamps, great for jewellery, card and sculpting embellishments

    Copics are a transparent medium, so it being pretty transparent on the plastic doesn't surprise me much (tosca and colored pencils are opaque). Also, the effect that happened with the copics was probably due to a reaction to the film or coating they use on the plastic

He absolutely loves watching cash or trash, and laughs like crazy when you and Sika say “In Da Trash!” Lol. Once he saw this kit he just had to ask “Santa” for it (5 days before Christmas…yikes…). Fortunately Amazon was able to have it here in time to go under the tree. Fast forward to yesterday and he asks if we can try the kit. He LOVES it! Thank you for comparing the different pens and pencils.
    I have done some shrink plastic projects myself. My favorite is the little garland I made for my Percy Jackson shelf. It has tiny flags with the symbols of the Greek Gods on them, the symbols are drawn with permanent marker and after shrinking I covered the back with acrylic paint since I wanted a bigger variety of colors than just using colored pencils, and some metallic shades. As a little note, clear shrink plastic needs a lot of layers of the paint, after shrink, to be opaque.
    Your videos always make me smile. I hope you are recovering well.

    Omg pls do more shrink plastic it's my current obsession lol. I've been making charms, keychains, pins, and earrings. You can dome them with resin, glaze, or Glossy Accents (my preference because my lungs can't handle resin anymore).

    I hope all is well with your recovery. I use shrink plastic to make pins and jewelry. I’ve tried a lot of materials and acrylic paint markers come out the best. I’ve used alcohol based markers and they run. I love the material because you can make so much detail and once it shrinks the details stay. Awesome medium. I’ve made jewelry with them too

    When Shrinky Dinks came out in the 70s, my mom painted Christmas ornaments. The paint that came with the kits then was like stained glass paint, and the results were so pretty! By the 80s, they switched to colored pencils, and the results were so diminished.

    I love shrink plastic. I'm a papercrafter and make shaker cards sometimes. My last shrink plastic card was a shaker cards with little shrink plastic star wars characters and light sabers.
    I used stamps from kindred stamps and copics to colour them. I used a heat tool to melt them because I'm too lazy to take them to the oven 😂

    Shrinky Dinks! I was such a huge fan of these as a kid in the 80s. They came with pre-printed images that you colored in an cut out. I also had a set with plain plastic that I could draw whatever I wanted on. I remember making key chains and a custom tag for my dog’s collar.
