Why does poor Joolz get thumbs down??? He is an absolute entertaining chap and does not give any offence??? Please be supportive rather than negative!!!!!
I went to Highgate School, too, and the Gatehouse pub had the reputation of being where all the masters went to recuperate from teaching serried ranks of adolescent boys! (Before anyone asks, yes, Highgate was all-male when I was there). Very many thanks for this trip down Memory Lane!
Emma's flat! I am an Avengers addict, wanted to be her when I grew up, still practicing my high kick 😉 I really enjoyed this one, it had so much content and an extra dose of your Pythonesque silliness 👍 So glad to finally see a picture of your Dad in the show, I remember him! Thanks for all your hard work, I sincerely appreciate it 😙
Lovely vid. I visited Highgate Cemetery a few years ago, and couldn't resist going round to that George Michael memorial garden in front of his house. He's sadly missed.
How very random. Going down the youtube rabbit hole - I came across a little video about my old school and what do you know... Theres a picture of me in it! Lovely work Julian.
Thank you Joolz for this great video. I’ve been living in Highgate for nearly 4 years and learned a lot after watching. I’ll look a bit more closely next time. Cheers
I’m a new viewer and still have a ways to go to get caught up, but really enjoy your channel. Film work, humor, sound quality, subject matter...all top-notch. I also watched your film concerning Pitcairn Island. As someone who also had a fascination towards that remote land & people, I enjoyed, as well as appreciated, your desire to go there and your gumption in persevering in your endeavor. Glad you made it there and back safely. Thanks for taking us along!
OMG, I'm a huge Avengers fan (Diana Rigg era) It would be awesome if you could possibly dedicate a video to film set locations of this awesome show. Also, it's superb you have a connection to it.
I loved this. I also watched "Take me to Pitcairn Island" film you've made. That must have been once in a life time trip going probably the remotest place on earth. Brilliant !
Brilliant.. My hubby lived in the house by the pavilion at Highgate school. His dad was head groundsman called Jim... Great guide. Am off to watch some more of your amusing and interesting jaunts about town.. Keep them coming 😊
I live here snd found this fascinating! Never knew of the frozen chicken ghoul! I’m sworn into the Horns of Highgate as well. The cafe Nero shop would have been interesting to include as it was livestock to butchers in one place.
Great stuff. I love getting to learn such interesting facets of the culture of London that many of the locals probably don't even know. I heard that Twickenham is now part of London. (Sorry about the spelling--I have a degree in English Lit. not spelling) Twickenham is where Peter Sallis was born. I would love to learn more about that area. Also, one of your famous countrymen is a friend and neighbor out here in Washington State, USA, Danbert Nobacon from Chumbawamba.
Full of nostalgia. I was a student nurse in Whittington hospital in the 70s. Often visited Waterlow Park, browsed in cemetery to look at Karl Marx, ansd strolled to Hampstead Heath. Absolutely interesting place to live in
hi Joolz, just started watching your channel and it's just fab! I'm from just down the road in Hornsey and i was born in Whittington hospital. Have you seen Dick Whittingtons black cat remains they found in the walls of the pub at Archway? Also i was brought up with the story of the witch that was dislodged from her abode at Alexandra palace and was always scared of that story, plus they always made us go on cross country runs through creepy queens woods at highgate wood school back in the 70s. I look forward to more of your videos soon x
I grew up on Hillcrest estate, which was opposite High point. Hillcrest, was one of the very few council estates in Highgate. All the places you mentioned is a throw back for me, when I was a kid riding my bike, and doing my paper rounds to all the rich peoples house. The gate house pub is supposedly haunted too. When I was about 14, me and a mate plucked up the courage to go into The Wrestlers pub, which was right next to Hillcrest estate, I innocently asked for a pint of lager, and just for one second, he was about to do it, then looked back and said, have you got any ID? I promptly left feeling embarrassed. Lots of memories growing up around there. I love your videos, we now live in Islington, so loved that one too. And have subscribed.
Also went to St.Michael's primary school, do you know any history about that school? I was in the same class as Terry Gillingham's daughter. She used to bring in props from her dads tv stuff.
..and Victoria wood and her (ex) husband Geoffrey Durham lived in highgate.. I didn’t get to highgate cemetery, but I went to golders green cemetery. That is a beautiful cemetery
Could you please visit Crystal Palace, Sydenham and Dulwich? Lots of interesting places there, including the dinosaur park, the Sydenham Hill Woods which has an old train tunnel, spectacular views of London, Dulwich picture gallery, Rosebury Park, also lots of wonderful pubs around there too!
Brings back lots of memories for me Joolz , The Wrestlers, The Flask etc .I worked in Holly Lodge estate and lived at the bottom of North Hill on Archway Rd next door to the house Rod Stewart was born and raised in , The Welly was our local , early 80s some of the best times of my life.
Spectacular video joolz! I request and recommend you to pls make a video on Harrows in London. I want u to display all the modern and beautiful residential areas of this city🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
@Rab Feenie It kinda is. Research and statistical data has shown that those from disadvantaged or lower socioeconomic backgrounds are generally those with a higher level of patriotism and/or faith.
If you go..into the pub garden of The Gatehouse Inn, there is a large metal sign, at least 120 years old, with George Wyatt written on it. Its massive and nobody knows where it comes from or why its there. I think? maybe it belonged originally to my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather a Butcher... but I am not certain!
George Michael lived at the end of Swains Lane. Back in 1990, i sparked at the king of Qatar's mansion on The Bishops Avenue on a refurb, Professional kitchen, 3 phase power in a house, that's mad !

I used to live in Manor House - but would spend many of my evenings in Highgate pubs. Couldn't live there as it was out of my price range when I was a student! Did you ever walk that disused rail line from Seven Sisters to Highgate? Loved that part of town!
No, I meant I slept in the abandoned train station once - as a dare! We did get into Highgate cemetery at night - but as a small group and only for an hour! Jesus, I couldn't sleep there! Ghosts everywhere!

Hi Joolz, thanks for the great tour around Highgate. Is it just me or did the great Physicist Stephen Hawking also lived in Highgate during his early years? Wondering if you came across his house on your visit there? Cheers.

Brilliant video, well done Joolz. So much to say about Highgate and you covered loads of it. Next Hampstead Heath and then Hampstead Village!
I'll be needing your expert input for both!
Yay! I had a drink in The Flask when I visited George's home. So very interesting! Thank you.

Thanks. Yes, it's a lovely part of the world.
Great video of London and the history of Highgate and the pubs. I am really enjoying your walk arounds and the historic places that you show us.
Joolz you are brilliant. This was my first Joolz Video. I love it! Adorable man. I sent a "contribution" for your entertaining me. Sounds fair.
That is much appreciated. I am still getting around to replying to everyone but thanks!!!

You did say that was favorite pub crawl but I guess even for a seasoned Londoner 16 bars in one postal code, is a lot of pubs and a lot of crawling...
Well, I think we tried it when we were 17 years old...but I'm not sure if we succeeded.

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful video. It was very little about the cemetery which I’m glad and allot more fun.
The Street you’re walking on at 9:30, Charles Dicken lived on, Maybe a quarter mile on from where you were, and on the other side of the road.
Charles Dickens seemed to live everywhere! I've had to stop mentioning him in my films because he pops up all over the place!

I have always wanted to visit Highgate cemetery.
Do it ; I did it in august to see George’s grave : well worth the ten pounds to get in
Very informative. It's cool to see areas where my ancestors came from...... Mark from Canada.
Tomb of Marx (Karl, for friends) his body does not lie in this monument, but in a discreet tomb next to his wife, some distance away.
Thanks. And I don't think he lived in Highgate as my friend said.that might have been an error.
Rab Feenie pretty sure in 2019 many of Marx’s theories prove correct honey.
@Rab Feenie It kinda is. Research and statistical data has shown that those from disadvantaged or lower socioeconomic backgrounds are generally those with a higher level of patriotism and/or faith.
That makes sense, as his monument and the ground around it is probably soaked in urine.
It should be dug up and move to the cesspool.
Phone booths (boxes) are very hard to find there in The States now and they never looked as nice as the UK anyhow.

Many times. It's a lovely walk. Tricky to get into the old abandoned station at Highgate though.
This was 20 years ago - I once slept there at night to scare my self silly!!!!! Very, very spooky!

The Flask has a really old beer cellar, and if you're very nice the bartender will give you a quick tour.
Excellent.
Delightful as usual! Why did the chicken cross the road? To thaw out in the warm store because it was forlorn from being somewhat frozen!
That's quite a punchline!
Excellent
