Absolutely. I couldn't fit a pot big enough on that range nor did I have a metal pot that would hold that volume so I have to make do with what I got. But yes, if I was dying a canteen cover or a mag pouch that is exactly where it would have happened, on the stove top.
@@JEB66 also- we pretty much only dye desert or ACU stuff, for the same reason. We only do it of we HAVE to and ACU is a 'have to' situation. ACU is getting really cheap, especially the pouches, etc. It is a good cost cutter.
I use both salt and vinegar and have dyed several pieces of ACU gear. You need more water, and RIT has dye formulas for various color. They don't come exactly because the ACU gear has shades of green in it.
i notice lot to lot surplus nylon takes the dye differently. there is a random element to it. i love the rit dye formula guide! I have experimented with a couple but more importantly it i spired me to make my own.
@@bizzlesnach I'm doing variations of some of the rit dye formulas. The quality of the fabric as a lot to do with the dye quality. I also use vinegar and salt, regardless if its nylon or cotton. I soak whatever I'm dyeing overnight so the fabric opens up as much as possible. I've also been dyeing stuff that I've previously dyed, where the results were not so good. I'm a bit obsessed about it.
@@bizzlesnach It's all about the formula as well. You're stuff is going to look like glow in the dark apple green if you use just apple green dye. A dash of black also helps. I'm super obsessed so I soak overnight.

@@JEB66 3 gallons makes it easy. With 3 gallons just toss a bottle of liquid rit dye in. Rit has a dye mix pdf you can download, it is really handy.
