    Cool! FYI…RITS website has a COMPLETE pallet of colors and shades with the RIT dye combination ingredients. You don’t have to just do Peacock Green. Example: I was going for OD green and had to use red and graphite 👍🏿

      You used red and graphite combined to make the acu's OD green, is that correct? I have an acu gortex I want to dye and get more OD effect? Please advise. Thx.

    Revisiting. I just received an order of MOLLE II rucks - full, medium and assault all in your fav UCP camo. I really liked that Rit Dye Synthetic 'Peacock Green' color you used so I thought I might try dippin' the packs in a bucket. I'll let you know - it'll be a while.

      @wendigoslayer86 No. There's some 'testing' going on with NVGs with different materials on tarps, packs, etc. Some positive results with 'rattle can' spray paint are showing up. Seems the flat paint colors/texture really 'absorb' light and in the right surrounding environment is difficult to pick up. I haven't seen any testing on 'dyed' nylon but have requested it. I will consider dying some of my gear I use for hunting but want a 'kit' for other outings. The UCP isn't terrible for my desert surroundings - lots of gray/sage colored plants and landscape. UCP doesn't do well under NV though - the light grey lights it up and somewhat reflective.

    Love the color. Looks like it took really well. Hope it proves to be water repellent still.
    Have you ever experimentrd with mixing some other colors to get a more muted green? That would be interesting to see.
    I've even wondered about black and yellow in different ratios because that's how you get olives and khakis. (Black being a super concentrated blue.)
    Learned that one in high school art class. 😎
    Love your videos. I've gotten some inspiration from them. Working on a DMR load bearing system at the moment. Just found an e-bay source for mag pouches (M-1967) that hold four, 20 rnd. mags side by side. And they are NOT cheap! Anywhere from $28-$85 each! 😬 AND no ALICE clips.
    Keep up the good work Marine!

    At 81now I have collected about 11 items over the years all at discount stores and 2 brand new items like yours all are still water proof a few have to be 20 years old . Almost for got We also bought 12 pair of gortex winter pants . These were being spold at a local surf&ski shop at a once in a year sell of and swap.. Any way a former or current sales person for gore Tex was selling about 20 pair of thee pants for 18 bucks if memory serves me , so we bought some in the sizes our freinds could wear . The only draw back is the pants had Gore Tex printed on 1 leg . I did read years ago about gore Tex it was the weave they had the patent on thats all I can remember what ever the secretwas I'm sure all the ansewrs are out there . Happy Trails

    I usually add about a cup of white vinegar and half cup of salt. It is supposed to help, the salt for normal fabrics, vinegar for the cordura type fabrics.

    Well the 2nd video that gave me an answer to my question, I just bought a UCP bivy cover, to complete my sleep system, but both my jungle/patrol, and intermediate bags are OD in color, so i wondered if waterproof fabric could be dyed without damgthe item, 👍🏾👊🏾💯, thanks for the video, want to get it close to OD as possible.

    You're not actually dying the Gore-tex membrane but the (probably nylon) exterior. I want to dye my nylon Gore-tex jacket, but I'm worried the hot water will damage the membrane. The Gore-tex relies on tiny pores that could stretch or deform with that much heat... 🤔Do I risk it? I can handle an ugly jacket that performs well...

    • @renaissancemarinetv3536
      @renaissancemarinetv3536  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      cant dye white. but rit makes a color remover. not sure what it would do to the fabric. go to a fabric store and ask them. good luck.

  • @camojoe83
    @camojoe83 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Gore tex has 0 to do with dye acceptance. Gore Tex is a membrane layer, not an outer layer fabric. Usually waterproofs with gore tex layers are also treated with other water repellent technology on their outer layers which definitely will prevent dye from penetrating. I don't think you're getting RIT thru DWR or a silicon treated outer fabric. The more used and broken in it is, the better it will work, probably.

    • @renaissancemarinetv3536
      @renaissancemarinetv3536  ปีที่แล้ว

      in my "exhaustive" research for this video i read that myself. and it confuses me. the big selling point of gore tex is that water drops cant penetrate but that water vapor can exit. but if they always cover it with a waterproof layer of silicone or some such, isnt the ability to dispel water vapor and heat compromised?
