This was the first time I ever heard Alexandre Desplat, on a cold Tuesday night in December 2003 at a sneak preview of "Girl with a Pearl Earring". it's been a wonderful thirteen years hearing such beautiful whimsy and soul.
A truly beautiful subtle - yet kind of underrated - piece of score by one of the very best composers in the last decades. J'adore... Et ces cordes lancinantes qui ne cessent de me donner des frissons...
When the film was released, I heard two or three professors from the art department in the theater toilet discussing. There are several static scenes in the film that are as beautiful as oil paintings.
I heard this beautiful piece of music just several months ago and have been strangely attracted to it ever since. Yes, most surely it is - whimsical, magica, time travelling to distant worlds. I imagine - if one closes their eyes they can feel flying over roof tops through the clouds, looking down upon the City lights in a time period long ago.You are caught in between the notes as the music takes you higher and higher. You never want it to end. I am in love with this masterpiece. Thank you.
The ostinato in the accompaniment of Griet´s Theme (2003), was composed by John Williams in "Attack of the Clones" (2002), Episode II, Star Wars. th-cam.com/video/M25FVTaxpRE/w-d-xo.html
Thank you. I was just about to leave a comment asking where I might have heard this piece before (or parts of it, at least). I knew I had never seen the film The Girl with a Pearl Earring before, and yet this piece is so familiar to me. I'm still convinced I've heard it used in other films/ shows before (possibly in its entirety), though?
Paintings, music, movie, actors, book - all just magical!!! Thank you!!!

Sounds like a copy from the main theme of Basic Instinct, nice music though
