As a Defender owner TD5 and 2013 Defender I am so stoked that a Defender is participating in the Dakar rally. It keeps the legend well and truly alive and in the spirt of the Camel Trophy. Will follow closely and wish you all the best and luck.
Very interesting Andrew, you’ve supplied many of your excellent quality kit for 300 TDi Wolf, which I have to admit have made a World of difference, great to see them tested in an extreme rally, keep up the great work and good luck 🤞
Great walk around! I do love the Borg Warner transfer box - we use one too! Very inspirational - I suspect I’ll be full of questions when you are back! Good luck with the next challenges - keep it together!
soy fanatico de LAND ROVER ... tengo 2 del año 1953, tipo 90 y uno del año 1980 ( abatar) del tipo 109 ... unos " fierros" ,.... el problema que en Argentina la nafta es muy cara !!!!!
Amazing to see a td5 doing the Dakar…. I take my hat off to you. Great Job
Thank you, its a great set up that is very flexible for many types of motorsport

Had to smile. With all the tech and roll cage I saw the windscreen wipers.

Hi, which electronic compass do you use? Cool car…
T4R Rally Master from Rally Raid UK, acquires signal very quickly. Thank you!
Did I hear correctly: viscous transfer box from the old Range Rover? Is that "hardened" in any way or is it just good enough for the Dakar?
Yes the Borg Warner which has Tomcat strengthened chain and lowered ratio
Great very interesting, what coolant are you using , evans waterless ?
Standard pink antifreeze and water, works absolutely perfectly with a good aluminium radiator ;)
What tools do you carry?
Basic “bodging” kit, set of spammers, adjustable, grips, hammer, electrical repair kit- wi free connectors fusss delays etc, electrical tester, hammer and lots of cable ties!
Good luck, thanks!
how can your td5 be classified for the H2.B Group? were td5s not produced from 1999 onwards so it would be a group H3.C Car?
We were in H3 group
I forgot to ask what type of roof vent is that..?
Bespoke AlliSport aluminium one :)
Good walkthrough. Who's doing your service?
Thank you, we have a friend looking after the car called Rob :)
How much does a setup like this cost ?
It was built and developed over a few years so it is hard to put a figure on the cost, but to build it from scratch it could easily be £60,000
