    I really am so glad that you discovered the greatness that is the Kershaw Camp 10 (Tyrus). I started watching preparedmind101 in 2012 and once I started branching out on my own I discovered it and hated that you didn't like it back then. I have put mine through heck and back and it keeps asking for more.

    GREAT choices Chris. BUT, no Skrama....sad. Hey, I know you changed your mind on the Skrama, and made three videos concerning the testing of said item. I would LOVE to see those videos to find out WHY it left the approved list.

    • @preparedmind101
      @preparedmind101  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Steven Szabo I'll consider it. I just don't want to listen to the bullshit comments that it's because of Jess-X. But I have Ben from Living Survival in it too, and he is in agreement. I still have the clips.

    • @Shooter11B
      @Shooter11B 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right on! Whatever you guys decide is cool. Personally I would just laugh at whatever idiot tried to accuse you of that because they are completely different and pretty much designed for different tasks. Heck, even it it WAS true, I sure as heck wouldn't blame you or even mind! Jess-X is your baby, brother! Understandably you are proud of her as you should be for her success and effectiveness. Always remember, trolls will be trolls and haters will hate, but the truth will set them free, or was that a .22lr behind the ear? LOL. Stay true to YOU no matter what you decide to do. Crap, did that rhyme?

    • @preparedmind101
      @preparedmind101  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Steven Szabo Thing is... On the first video, I started out with the assumption that I'd like them equally. Because I liked the Skrama for rear position Chopping. The idea was, both were in a unique tool niche, and if you didn't like the looks of Jess-X, there was the Skrama.
      But in use beyond chopping, I found it but to be as good. And the position of the bump in the handle made choked up work very uncomfortable. Suddenly I was VASTLY in favor of Jess-X over the Skrama. But the issue being that's my baby. SOOOO..... Dilemma.
      Tried again. Gave myself time to warm up to it. Same thing. Even Ben agreed. In side by side chop tests Jess-X just has WAY more power.
      I WANTED to like it!

    • @Shooter11B
      @Shooter11B 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris, if Jess-X is superior in those area, it simply is. I think most people would agree with you on those points IF you explain why. I think most people are pretty reasonable in these things. For myself, I simply am not a fan of the overall LOOKS and form factor of Jess-X, and just can't really warm up to it. I know Jess-X is an awesome and EFFECTIVE design, but I also know that every knife is an "individual", just like people are. Not everyone can be a fireman or surgeon or engineer or chef. I think the information that you derived from your tests would be valuable to a lot of us that are interested in the Skrama design, not as a replacement for Jess-X, but simply on it's own merits. It is perfectly OK if the Skrama does not do it for you and can't replace Jess-X, but what can it do well and why? I think ANY test like this is valuable on it's own aside from any other considerations. If the videos you made ended up being side by side comparisons of the Skrama to Jess-X and that was not your original intent, then I can see why you don't want to put them up. But if there are only incidental comparisons to Jess-X, well, that is perfectly normal. Any time I do a test of a new knife, I have a base level of performance I compare it against, the "control set" of information. The scientific method at work. If you already have the perfect woods tool in Jess-X, then Jess-X IS the control group or set of information. It is the base of performance ALL other tools and knives must be compared to any time you test a similar tool designed for the same work. Why something does not exceed the base level of performance is the test result, at least in my way of looking at things. That information is valuable to a lot of us who are considering other tools, especially if we cannot get one for ourselves to test. One reason most of us watch your reviews is because we KNOW they are unbiased and you most of the time incorporate Will into the test so we get two perspectives, to data sets upon which to make a decision and we get to SEE exactly how/why you either liked or did not like an item. ALL valuable to anyone in the market for the particular item, no matter the end result or your conclusions. Know what I mean?

    • @BlazinBlades
      @BlazinBlades 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great choices.
      Mine would include at least one Cold Steel.
      Probably the Bowie Machete which is a great 12" chopper, is under $20 and has a mean point!
      I would take out the Eco Golok to make room for that one.

  • @aaronramirez1928

    I have the bushcraft parang and Camp10. Like them both, but my
    Top 5 budget choppers will process wood better than any of your top 5, and all can easily be stored in a shed.
    1 Estwing Sportsmans axe. $38
    2 Husqvarna hatchet. $34
    3 BladeMate Camp Hatchet $29
    4 Schrade hatchet. $21
    5 Bahco folding saw. $18

    I see at least one guaranteed entry for Dirty Mind 101, Part 2.
    Good selection of choppers/machetes. The CRKT Half-a-Chance would seem like a good addition - same great handle and sheath system, but more reach and power.

    Know what's funny? CPM 3V is cheap. As a blank. It's barely more costly than 1095. But because it's awesome, knife makers charge more hoping no one notices it's pretty cheap

      This is probably on of the dumbest things I've ever herd any buddy say on TH-cam. the cosmic stupidity of this statement actually gave me cancer. The fact that any buddy could say something so fucking retarded actually blows my mind.
      I actually doubt that you understand the amount of time and money it costs to grind and heat treat a 3v blade.
      A KNIFES COST IS MORE THAN JUST MATERIALS THAT'S WHY BARK RIVER COSTS SO MUCH MORE THAN SOMETHING LIKE AN ESEE OR A KABAR..... MAN HOURS..

    Most of your links are not working. Where I come from, the native blade is the Parang. The downside is that it does not have a pointed edge so you can't drill with it. The Kershaw spot a number on the blade, 1077. That is most likely the code for the steel that it is made off, AISI 1077. It is at the highest end of various grades that are classed as Medium Carbon Steel. Not as hard as AISI 1095 that is under the class of High Carbon Steel or Tool Steel but tougher. That is important if you are using the knife in a cold environment like Canada. The tougher the steel the more resistant it is to chipping off. Here is an example of it, th-cam.com/video/zDYz4RZwWcM/w-d-xo.html.

      Everything causes cancer allegedly. But then they also say vaping causes popcorn lung, even though cigarettes have more of that ingredient. "They" are usually morons.

    hey Chris I've been following you for about a year now and I definitely will not purchase anything that you have not reviewed. that being said I'm a big fan of recurves but I have yet to purchase one because I'm afraid that I will not be able to sharpen one. if you can please make a video on how to sharpen recurve knives.
