I’m curious, the herringbone (at least visually) looks like two helical gears facing each other. How does that compare against a helical or spur gear?

Herringbone is best of all but it is more expensive to create & requires great precision to fabricate or else it will quickly become the worst of all gears. A Compromise would be two converse facing helical gears with a slight gap in between - makes the system a bit heavier but it is easy to get right.
