You gotta try Jamaican mangos. Had a tree when I was growing up and dude ... No strings, just juicy fruit that was the absolute SWEETEST thing I've ever tasted.
FUN FACT: Jamaican mangoes are descendants of Viet/Thai mangoes, because the first species of mangoes that were planted on the island were from a French ship pillaged by the British Navy.
Yeah, I tried to explain to my friends that the mangoes in Thailand/SEAsia are like the texture of custard, no fiber in the teeth. They didn't believe me until they tried it themselves. That's the kind of mango you'd serve on top of coconut sticky rice and understand that's pretty much all the dessert needs (fried mungbeans for crunch, and pandan for rice flavor are welcome though).
We definitely have fibrous mangos too. We have all of the mangoes. Every variety you’ve heard of and so many more. Big, small, round, long, sour, sweet, crunchy, smooth, we have them all. Some are meant to be eaten sweet while some are meant to be eaten sour. Some you eat small and crunchy along side a savory meal while others you shred and make a salad.
The best mango I've had was in Thailand, and I'm from Nigeria where delicious ripe mangos will knock you on the head. But a Thai mango...it was literally like smooth butter. I ate so much 😩
Some of us are very picky about our mangos. The Thai yellow mango was highly prized by a chef/owner of a small mom-and-pop Thai restaurant that I used to go to in California. Chef would only serve her mango and sticky rice with Thai yellow mango. It didn’t matter how many other mangoes were readily available, the answer was “not the right yellow mango, no mango and sweet rice today.” The experience turned me into a picky mango person too.
@@jewelsbarbie unfortunately it’s in a tiny little community in near the sierra’s, on Nevada City. It’s been some years, but I think it was called Sopa. I used to live in SoCal, Laguna Niguel area. There aren't many good Thai places. For good Asian food you have to go into LA to the Japanese district of Little Tokyo; Koreatown; and Thai Town. If you want ingredients to give cooking Asian food a try or grab and go Asian food H Mart in Irvine and Mitsuwa in Costa Mesa. I'm obsessed with Vietnamese content on TH-cam right now. I've seen them harvesting those recently and i really wanted to know more. So thanks, this actually helped!
If you can, try to get ahold of Pakistani honey mangoes, (chaunsa or sindhri) my family spends countless dollars on them during their short season which is coming up in a few weeks. The absolute sweetest mango varietal on planet earth
It looks a bit like a nam doc mai (although those tend to be uniform in colour) or another mango that also happens to be called ivory mango, but both of those are definitely from Thailand...
How do you tell when they are ripe? I bought a few out of excitement and realized after cutting that they are very much not ripe ;-; the unripe flavor and texture is still really delicious! I just have no clue how long to wait for til they’re ripe
If you could ever get your hands on a Pakistani mango, I would really love to hear your thoughts. My friend is from Pakistan and he talks about how sweet the mangos there are and I haven't found any where I live. Now I wanna try this type too. You make it sound so good ☺️ May 15, 2024
Honestly seems like every country says their mangos are the best 😅 Pakistani and Indian mangos are AMAZING, I wonder how many of these mangos are just similar species or decendents of each other accross countries
almost every ripe mangoes kn Indonesia is green, so it surprised me as a kid to see in the west there's red & orange & green gradation skinned mango 😂😂😂
i really don't like buying tropical produce in michigan because they ship it across the world, burning tons of fuel for a usually midling product but I'll check these out
Question: Are all mangoes supposed to be fibrous and waxy? I'm the only person in my family not allergic to mangoes, so I've been trying to learn more about them. I enjoy mango flavored things (i.e..mango juice, yogurt, etc.), but the fresh fruit I've had always has the same flavor and texture. They taste very astringent (much like an unripe persimmon), and no matter how soft it is, it's stringy and a bit waxy.
So many factors come into how good a mango is including type but also your own location. I find that most mangoes don’t travel well in terms of how much better they taste when enjoyed close to where they’re grow vs places where they have to ripen en route. These mangoes are special to me because they taste like a good mango eaten in a tropical place.
@@jonkung I'm in Florida, and mango trees are just about everywhere here. Sounds like I have a lot of research and taste testing to do. Thanks for the info! If you ever come to the Tampa area, you should take a stroll through the Cuban neighborhoods. You'll find tropical fruit hanging from branches over almost every fence.

@@SkyProtonFoodThat is a very fun fact, and i’m not being sarcastic in any way, thank you

Go ASEAN mangos! Pinoys and Vietnamese let's show some love in the comments ❤️
Filipino and Indian mangos still on the top on my list 😋

May I ask what the name of the restaurant is and what city or area it’s in? I am in SoCal and would love to try out the food. Thank you 😊

I love the final mango grid-cut😂❤ my Chinese parents have taught me this magic too. To me, 🥭= gird cuts
You have to try Indian mangoes!! They're next level

I don’t think it’s legal to import those to the US, if my memory serves me
It is legal. You can go to a halal store and find them in the summers.
@@maryanne327 - thanks!
Was literally gonna comment before I saw yours 😂♥️
You forgot to mention how expensive they are. Here in the Midwest, the price for 6 thai mango can cost $42 as they're price by the pounds.
All mangoes supremacy 🥭🥭.
OMG that mango flesh looked amazing! I gotta hop on a plabe to somewhere to get a few of these beauties 🫶🏾🌻
i've never found a mango that i've loved more than calypsos but ill keep an eye out for these when it's mango season in australia!!
we add those types to curries or eat it raw with chilli powder, sugar and salt mix
The hat❤
You’re confident out there casually declaring war against the Philippines like that
The little golden mangos taste.... idk what the word is...
That looks delicious. I have a few trees in Spain that send me three boxes per season. I have an avocado, blood orange trees too
It looks a bit like a nam doc mai (although those tend to be uniform in colour) or another mango that also happens to be called ivory mango, but both of those are definitely from Thailand...
Oooh! I will keep an eye out for it! I normally wouldn’t consider a batch of mango if they all look entirely green, thank you!
I’ve always known them as Saigon mango. Had it for the first time in Hawaii n they were twice the size. They’re extremely juicy n delicious.
Where did you find this one? Eastern Market? Or a grocery store? Might have to run out to eastern market this weekend if that’s where you found it…
Can we have a kitchen tour video one day? No short please.❤

If you really wanna try a viet way, dip mango in sauce made from fish sauce + lots of sugar 😂 although it's normally eaten with green/sour mangos
Those *do* look delicious but as a Mexican I must go to bat for Ataulfo mangoes. Sweet yellow perfection 👌
I will also keep an eye out for these! 😋
If you get one that’s underripe, they’re great for rice paper salads!

You have around 4000 varieties of mangoes in India. I would suggest Imam Pasad, kesar, dasheri , Payri and Alphonso mangoes from here .
Honestly seems like every country says their mangos are the best 😅 Pakistani and Indian mangos are AMAZING, I wonder how many of these mangos are just similar species or decendents of each other accross countries
An Ivory Mango would definitely suffice. Especially, if there are no Sweet Elenas readily available in the market. 🥭
Your wall of beautiful international cooking pots 🥹❤🥘🍲🫕
That mango is big. I wonder how you know when they are ready to be eaten if they are still green? But it looks delicious.
African mangoes 🥭 are very sweeter too👍🏾☝🏽

Definitely need to keep a lookout
Time for some mango sticky rice!
How much did it cost?
Gonna have to check these out coz if it rivals PH mangoes i'm in.
🥭😊
Woah
Thank you chef for mentioning us pinoy.
Buy still ! We call that ours😂😂

Haitian mangoes are also amazing
You need to try Indian Alfonso mangos
What shop did you find that at?
Where did you get it? Holiday Market?
I’m also Detroit-based.. where do you find all of this good produce!!
The Asian supermarkets in Maddison heights and Southfield
Was just about to ask, probably find out at 168
Well shoot. I just saw some in my grocery store but I thought them all being so green meant they’d be underripe and gross. :(
We have this variety in Cameroon 😹😹
What store did you find these at?
Would the seed sprout in Michigan 🤔

Pakistani Honey mango hands down
Damn, looked like you were eating custard!
Better than Filipino mango, you say....
I never liked mango tilI I tried yellow mangos. Omg, new level unlocked! They are fiberous, but so good!
are they sour? they look sour
Not at all sour. If anything less tart than any other mango I’ve had
So i’m half vietnamese and… mangos are supposed to be fiberous?? i think i’ve only eaten this type of mango my whole life 😂
When its cut open it looks kinda like a squash.
i raise you one better, Harum Manis mangoes from Perlis Malaysia
My gf is allergic 😭😭😭
Looks more like a rhino horn tbh
Idc what you call your foreign extraction Indian mangoes
A little flat but good to eat... 😏
Looks more like a horn of a rhino
Looks too spicy
Thailand and Vietnam are neighbors with overlapping cuisine, it happens.
They dont have overlapping food. Similar ingredients being SEA but good that is actually from their culture is actual not same.
