I have a 84 Targa, and never knew about the thermostat on the lines going to the front until recently and after 10 years of owning the car. I never changed my oil hot. The way you are doing it makes perfect sense, thank you for uploading.
Very helpful video Thank you. I could never do the job without jack stands! Better man then I... The oil type.( had to share my joy) I was a Brad Penn 20/50 now called PennGrade 1 - for 15 years - Played with other oils (both road and track). Now, left the cult, and did Liqui Moly 20/50 touring high tech and added the M0S2 Anti-Friction. My 3.2 with 100k never sounded better nor performed better. Drove 2k to Rensport Reunion two weeks ago and the car was amazing, best ever. After 2000 miles, never added a drop of oil. Just my two cents! Thanks again for making this video.
Hi Joe..I've been enjoying your videos and finished my 3.2 rebuild on Thanksgiving. I've been changing my break in oils and followed Heidi and Franny's garage lead with the oil tank valve. Not a huge deal, but nice to dump the tank quickly when the thermostat is still open. Fumoto F309L Engine Oil Drain Valve (22mm-1.5). I'm loving my car and the destination was worth the journey for sure.
Absolutely perfect. I wish my 993 was this simple to do engine oil change. Incredible the thinking behind the design. Car must be an engineers dream. 😳😍👌🏿
lol, Unbolting the oil nut under the engine - I've done the exact same thing, trying to move my hand away quickly. good video - and honest. I let the nut drop straight in the pan and retrieve it later.
@JoeEngineer I just picked up an 1983 911 SC Targa. Needs an oil change but when I start it to take it to "warm temperature" it smokes a bunch because of old owner pour too much oil. Any tips on how to go about it? Could I do an oil change at cold temps? Thanks in advance!
@@JoeEngineer okay that's what I thought. Here is my other caveat... the car hasn't have its valves adjusted in a bit and I was thinking of doing the valve adjustment, maintenance + oil change at the same time. Would you say to drain a little oil. Drive it around as it is. Once we can do the oil change correctly (like your video) do everything else then? Thanks so much for your help!!

Very insightful walkthrough on the oil change. Just did mine yesterday & it was a breeze on my 71T. Thank you
My god... I can only DREAM of carving a mountain with that view through my '78. Great stuff! Definitely subbed for more.
Man, that underside looks clean!
Thank you. I have a couple tiny leaks but an occasional spray and wipe down keeps it clean
Thank you for this video. I learned a lot your subscriber on the West Coast Los Angeles. Just got myself a 78 SC and I must do the same thing

Thanks. May look into this if my annual mileage goes up.

Love the obligatory throttle blip at 15:45!
I have a 911SC 81´. Excelent video! Please more videos like this!! thank you very much!
A German car car has degrees Celsius instead of Fahrenheit. Greatings from Bavaria.
God job, Joe 🎉
Thank you for creating this video
Cool. I've a 1996 993 C2 iris blue metallic, 60,000 miles, 6-speed manny tranny. No CEL, no oil leaks.
Yup, I do all my own maintenance.
Great Video, perfectly explained.

Drain a little from the tank while it's cold. Might take a few drives to clear out the oil left in the oil breather circuit.

@@JoeEngineer any thoughts on above☝
Clear explanation.
Spot on!
Great video.
Can I ask where you purchased the larger pan? Thanks

The dip stick on my 89 c4 is near impossible to read correctly.
I was wearing an effing scarf one morning when I checked the level in my Targa’s oil tank and my scarf fell and I almost pulled an Isadora Duncan
Yikes 😳😳😳
