    Dear Audrey,
    I started following you because of your attitude towards a more minimalistic and capsule wardrobe and decluttering. You introduced me to slow fashion and the value of quality vs quantity. Since then your channel grew a lot and I am so glad that you still keep it that way. That you choose your cooperation partners carefully and still don't let yourself get carried away by the endless possibilities to consume or advertise and that you still live after what you are "preaching" us. Your style may change and that is a good thing, but I am glad that your values and mindset don't. Thank you for that, keep up your good work😊⚘

    My aunt willed her Louis Vuitton travel bag (to me) from the 1970s when she passed away. Not my style at all but it reminds me of her and her adventurous life. I use it to store all my summer scarves and always think of my dear, lovely aunt when I open my closet door.💖💖

    I definitely agree with you about moving away from obvious designer bag styles. I've always found designer items with large logos/logo prints (like the Louis Vuitton) to be a little bit too ostentatious. I much prefer styles that are more understated.

      Designer bags became aspirational for people who really did not have the means to easily afford them. When that happened they tended more and more to appeal to people who emotionally NEEdED to be noticed, filling a void or self esteem issues. Poorer and poorer women lusted after them creating a lare market for fakes..not a comdemnation just a psychologists observation of human behavior. So the manufacturers upsized the logos made color more garish and exagerrated eye catching details...understated taste largely went out the window trying to meet those needs. Women of understated refined taste drifted to even more traditional styles like the camera bags etc. You never saw Queen Latizia or other tasteful royals sporting enormous logos or garish clashing ornamentation.

    Don't get rid of the black classic bag...it's a great shape...I would hang on to it and use it when traveling or out for the day when you might want to carry more items than usual. Yes on the bags you have removed and yes on the bags you have added. You style has evolved beautifully and you actually look younger and more vibrant in your current choices of clothing and accessories.

    Handbags for me used to be something I would just collect, and I never really paid attention to the smaller details like hardware, color, structure or proportion. I do feel as if my collection now reflects not just my values, but also works within my wardrobe's color palette. I've learned a lot of things in the last few years when it comes to this subject. Thank you for making this video, Audrey!

    I am definitely not into fashoin when it comes to handbags. Unless it a formal or special occasion I always wear cross body bags. And while I own only a handful of bags, if they are in good condition, I never part with them. I have in the past and in the end always regretted it. i appreciate channels like yours that focus on quality, function and style over brand. i myself prefer my things to be stylish but more importantly, serve its purpose; like a bag should help me carry my things not me babying my bag coz it costs more than 5k dollars for its sensitive lambskin leather.

  • @cstar6682
    @cstar6682 3 ปีที่แล้ว +35

    This was interesting to me. I thought you were going to talk about the function of a bag, but you really focus on form. I always consider size with regard to how much stuff someone wants to lug around and not about being in scale with my proportions. I think about quality, weight, number of pockets and strap comfort. I want hands free, so clutches and over the arm never make the cut. My personal goal is to have about 4 bags, spring/summer, fall/winter, travel appropriate and dressy.

    • @chloeann4423
      @chloeann4423 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Even though I drastically reduced the amount of "stuff" I carry in my bags, I always need to carry a wallet and a protective sunglass/eyeglass case. Just those two require bigger bags, so that in itself forces me to consider function rather than form. But the smaller ones that Audrey showed are definite inspirations for when I go to an evening event and only need to carry ID, a credit card, phone and a lipstick.

My Bottega Veneta baseball hobo is the perfect example. I don't like hobo bags. It's gigantic on my 5'2" frame. It's obnoxiously key lime green. And I love it. I can't part with it.

    My tastes have changed through the years... What I miss is that my late mother would love inheriting my purses! And, those were the days I would only own one or two bags; My career starting out, when every year I would put my new winter coat on layaway at the Boston Store, 🧥 making payments until it became mine! Then, accessorizing it with leather boots👢,🧤🧣 gloves, hat, and "the right" purse! I had to choose wisely in those days, and it gave me joy. 👜

    👜 Nice collection! Have noticed those green bags of yours and really really love them. Also, one favorite color of mine is your bag in blue-gray (also known as smoke blue, denim, wedgewood blue, smokey blue, steel blue)... It reminds me of the color of the sea on a partly cloudy day. It goes with so much: camel, cream, an unusual contrast to pink, and just makes me happy... I have a certain style leather bag with silver trim, that I like so much, I have it in black, brown (maybe 'hickory brown' would be more accurate), burgundy wine, and my favorite blue... It has a good weight, holds its shape (some bags collapse when not full) and the manufacturer calls it: a genuine leather handbag, shoulder purse, cross-body, satchel, tote. To me, it is not a tote. 👛 I have not decided about their lovely pink color nor navy in that style because I would not use them as often. I wish they made it in that gorgeous evergreen/Hunter green color... Loving suede, my next purchase will be a light gray bag, and have my eye on 👁👁 an ivory/beige bag with brown handles and has rivets which add great interest and defines the shape. The ivory color with the brown handles would also go with my London Fog coat and leather ivory flats, slip-ons)... THANK YOU for the inspiration... it helps me greatly. Please let us know which of your sisters got the taupe bag, and what did she say? Have a beautiful day! 💕

Especially in these days of needing to carry hand sanitizer and masks, plus essentials like tissues, phone, glasses/sunglasses, wallet, and keys. I can't believe you got rid of your leather Dooney. I own that bag & I pull it out whenever I go on weekends away. Yes, with this pandemic I haven't traveled, but I will take weekend trips again when things become more normal. I like packing a big handbag which fits sunglasses, wallet, phone & charger, tampons, water bottle, sunscreen, sanitizer, ball cap, powder & lipstick, camera, mini sketch pad, pens & pencils, etc.
    While my friends prefer traveling light & hands free, I like having the larger bag to carry stuff I need & a bit of room to throw in a souvenir. I try to buy a piece of jewelry from every where I visit. Usually it's bracelets because they are my favorite. Oh, Audrey, you always need one larger bag. Although, I will admit the smaller bags do look like a more appropriate scale on you for everyday life. 🙂

    I like small cross body bags too but dont have any of those in your collections. Im very short 61yrs it feels more Im older if I wear those vintage stuffs. I like the black round second handbag and the very small cute handbag. Green clothes too but stick to green/blue petrol color coz works in casual health care green uniforms. Will you somehow sell vintage stuffs to your viewers ? Wish you Have a Great Summer// regards from Sweden.

    I like bags I can wear on my shoulder that sit close to my body. I have two bags - one casual and one more dressy. I rarely use them as I tend to just carry my wallet and keep the rest in pockets, but if I don't have pockets or need more room I grab one of my two bags depending on where I'm going.

    Another great video, Audrey! I wonder: do you keep your handbag loaded up all the time and use it for a while, or do you unload and reload it at the end of each day, or is there another way? I’m curious about how others handle that. I do love to switch bags now and again and am learning to pare down to the necessities, but sometimes I just don’t feel like switching it all out to go with an outfit. However, the information in your videos has allowed me to choose my bags more carefully to go with my wardrobe, which is helpful.

    I have the same struggle with bags - I'm small (and a have a much taller sister!) so normal bags look big and the big bags I used to favor to lug (too much) stuff looked so disconnected from my outfits and I actually never even considered them part of outfits. I adore that little blue crossbody! I have a small crossbody on my wardrobe wishlist atm, hoping to find one secondhand or vintage.
    Another excellent video. Your thoughtful, considerate style makes me feel like I can actually achieve my own personal style and not relegate it to daydreams. :)

    I like the idea of a bag fitting my proportion/outfit but in the end what it comes down to is practicality. What do I need to carry that day and could I maybe take a small bag and take a (nice!) cotton bag for additional stuff.
    So I have mostly bags with long over the shoulder straps or shopper or bagpack. I only have black, brown, grey, one red, one random vintage yellow bag. I would like to have a nicer dark green and/or burgendy bag.

    I would not get rid of the LV bags. They never go out of style; the quality cannot be beat, and if you chose now to stay away from obvious designer bags, I believe the classic style will lure you back to it, eventually. :) My 2 cents. Love your videos and thank you for posting such elegance amidst other less favorable videos in style.

    Handbags are my weakness! I am working on downsizing my collection. Really love your style and philosophy of thinking thru each purchase. Just because it’s a beautiful bag, it doesn’t
    mean it will be right for a person. Am trying to keep only the bags I use a lot and that can work for both casual and dressy. Btw-Your Zodiac ring really caught my eye!

    I had to come back and rewatch this video. I think she has developed a great mentality, and her capsule collection is impressive. The scaled down sizes aside, the colors of her new purses suit her style much better than most of the older purses she used. She looks gorgeous in the cornflower blue as well as the deep spruce green color, the cool undertones truly compliment her skin.
    I get a sense that the obvious designer items, especially the logos and prints... Ultimately detract from outfits. Rather than recognizing a stylish woman wearing a beautiful outfit, the luxury branding distracts people. It's more like these items end up wearing you. It's hard to appreciate an outfit when you are aware of how expensive certain flashy elements are. Designer belt buckles, patterned purses, the shoes, jewelry, and T-shirts with large logos.
    I've been searching for underground designer brands with unique shapes, colors, and design elements... ones that incorporate minimal branding for this reason. I want to wear unique and beautiful pieces rather than be seen dressed in "luxury" pieces.

    This is how I’ve felt about wearing designer handbags with their logo printed all over it. Not only does the consumer pay top dollar for ownership of a designer handbag, but then by wearing it, the wearer advertises their handbag free of charge. Double whammy. I’ve always refused to do it. Love your channel.

    I am your same height and size and have recently purchased a Polene Numero Uno Nano. It is a French bag but logo free and very well made. The Nano is not as big as the regular size but slightly larger than the mini (which is very mini). You might like this bag too. I was wondering if you would show what you carry in the smaller bags including what type of wallet that fits inside. Thank you for the great video, I really enjoyed it and love your style!

    Omg that last green bag with the removable handle is amazing!! I love a bag that’s unique AND super versatile and practical. I’ve been a rabid bag collector over the years bu now that I understand my preferences better, I only have a handful and especially love crossbody bags and backpacks that are 1) small(ish), 2) have tons of pockets, and 3) in colors that fit with my wardrobe (cool tones). 🤍🖤💙
