Volvo Trucks - Extreme weight testing of the Volvo FMX

แชร์

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 14 พ.ค. 2018
  • This extreme weight test features an ordinary Volvo FMX fitted with our heaviest gearbox, I-Shift with crawler gears. Two-tonne weights were dropped 26 times from various heights and positions to test the quality of the engine and gearbox mounting. The maximum g-force equals that of 214 tonnes at rest. First, the weights were dropped in the middle of the superstructure and then right above the rear engine mounts.
    *This is a so-called misuse test that was carried out by professionals in a controlled, test environment. Volvo Trucks strongly advises against dropping heavy objects on a truck in any other setting.

    Love it that there is no lie or BS or hype, they keep doing it until it is broken, they don't say it won't break, everything breaks under certain conditions, but in this case, it requires scenarios that will not occur in real life. Good job Volvo, awesome trucks...

      More words, Using pressure. Example:
      If you walk through snow, you usually sink into it. This is because your shoes have a small surface area. Your weight is only spread out over a small area, so the pressure on the snow is high. However, you will not sink so far into the snow if you are on skis. This is because your weight is spread out over a greater surface area, so the pressure on the snow is low.

    Here is some phsyics for whats going on:
    Potential energy of the boulder is (found by m.g.h) 20000.10.35/10 = 70000
    Converted to kinetic energy: 1/2.20000.70.70
    So the boulder hit the truck with square 70 (approximately 8,36) meters/second. We can accept it as the impact acceleration.
    F=m.a
    20000.836/100= 1672000 Newtons. If we convert it into kilograms by counting earths gravity acceleration as 10 m/s.s :
    The truck was under a stress of 167 tonnes and 200 kilograms.
    Hats off for Volvo engineering.

Constant major issues with d13s the dual idler gear in the timing gears grinds into the rear housing, jumping cam timing and causing catastrophic piston to valve failure. Keep it up guys! Did it break because of the 2 tons dropped at 3m or because of the 25 previous repeated shocks?

    Equivalent to sitting 214tons in the buck but what is the equivalent Gforce of carrying 20tons and driving through a large pot hole in the road? Also, they didn't do the build up in drops over the gearbox so we don't know that the first drop from 0.5m wouldn't have broken it, not saying it would have, just pointing out a few observations.

    They are showing the damage. Volvo Trucks is 99.9% more honest than most other big manifacturers on the market.
