My parents drive a Volvo XC90 and the sensors and safety features are really nice. We were on the freeway and there was a water truck that spilled a bunch of water all over the road. It was able to slow down and tightened the seatbelts before we even got 1000 feet from it.
I LOVE my XC 90. I feel very safe in it. And I am a volunteer Fire Fighter/Rescue technician and the running joke at the station is IF I am ever in a serious accident, I will probably be OK, but they will play Hell cutting me out due to the superstructure around the passenger compartment. I have only seen THREE fatalities in an XC 90 on the internet, all three were in Europe and all three ran under a semi trailer. Two went as far as the "B" pillar and the third was hit from behind by another semi AFTER already having run under the trailer and this went as far as the "C" pillar. NO CAR IN THE WORLD COULD HAVE SAVED THEM. I stand by my Volvo.
Reminds me when a truck tried to overtake another truck, coming towards me at about 90kph. I had tenths of a second to decide whether to take the trucks head-on or dodge into the ditch. I chose the ditch. I've rolled over the length several times. Sky - wheat field - sky - wheat field, several times. There wasn’t much left of the S80, but I was fine except for a scratch on my forearm and nausea. This car definitely saved my life. Volvo for life.
Having served as a fireman for 30 years and attended some horrific road traffic accidents I can only applaud Volvo in their crash testing regime. It was always a problem for us as cars developed so quickly and a balance has to be made when rescuing casualties as we always used old cars for training.
This is just unbelievable! Engineers of Volvo thank you for your hard work. God knows how many lives you saved. God bless you. My next purchase is V 40.

Someone caused me to crash in my '08 V70. Written off and I was absolutely gutted. But for a 30mph collision (I went into their side with no chance to react) I didn't even have the slightest whiplash or anything. Only felt where the seatbelt had locked and ringing in the ears from the airbags. I was so impressed that I replaced it 2 days later with an '08 V70.

Volvo's have stood out as safety leaders since I first noticed the brand back in the late 1960's as a young driver. They have been the leaders in innovations all this time, rigid bars added to the doors, 3 point seatbelts, many other features ahead of all the other makers.

Force is force no matter what direction. Dropping from a crane is the same as driving into a solid object. That's why they change the angle of the car when it's dropped.
I'm a family man and I'm glad I drive a Volvo , it's very scary what can happen in a car crash I've seen some bad ones on the motor ways and have nearly been in a few , God willing I never will but if it did crash , I know me and my family have a better chance of living in the big V70.

Even in the dropped Volvos, the passenger compartments are still surprisingly intact. Goes to show how good the impact absorption is.
