- Samsung HD TV settings for a decent picture. Not professional just what I use.
Please note these settings are for my Samsung LED TV. The values used may not translate 100% to your Samsung HD TV. Picture quality varies between year and model numbers. This should work as a good starting point however.
In addition to the picture settings in this video you may want to look at the "auto motion plus" settings. What this technology does it motion interpolation. It uses adjacent video frames to create a new frame and insert it between them. So in effect it is doubling the frame rate, which gives it a "soap opera" feel.
Alright so I know this video is about to be 8 years old, but I just picked up a Samsung Syncmaster B2230HD monitor/TV from the garbage, and decided to see what the image looked like. However, when I plugged in my input, the image looked very grainy and yellow, so I decided to change the settings to suit my taste. I have a preference for setting the color white to have a cool temperature, so please keep that in mind. Also keep in mind that this might not look perfect on your particular monitor as each panel may have varying degrees of wear and tear, but it is a nice baseline. Finally, please note that I did not use a color calibrator when trying the following settings, and that I did these settings with a PC connected to the HDMI-1 input. With that out of the way, here are my Picture settings:
Mode: Standard
MagicAngle: Off
Backlight: 20
Contrast: 100
Brightness: 25
Sharpness: 0
Color: 40
Tint (G/R): G50/R50
...In the "Advanced Settings" menu...
Black Tone: Off
Dynamic Contrast: Off
Shadow Detail: +2
Gamma: -3
RGB Only Mode: Off
Color Space: Native
Flesh Tone: 0
Edge Enhancement: Off
...In the "White Balance" menu...
R-Offset: 22
G-Offset: 30
B-Offset: 50
R-Gain: 22
G-Gain: 30
B-Gain: 50
*3 more additional things to note:
1. When I look at this monitor dead-on, the colors seem natural and fine to my eye, but if the monitor is placed lower that my line of sight, the colors shift to become very blue and cool. I am not sure if this is something specific to my monitor, but it is something of note nonetheless.
2. Also, after I connected my PC to this monitor, I also selected the "Setup" menu from the sidebar and went to the "General" section. Here (at least on my monitor, in particular), I turned off the startup chime, or "Melody," as Samsung refers to it, but I also turned on "Game Mode." ***Please note that when you initially turn on Game Mode, your image will look terrible, with everything bearing a yellow tint and looking a bit like a deep-friend meme***. To fix this, simply go back into your "Picture" settings (while you have Game Mode turned on) from the sidebar menu, and once again change all of the predefined settings to the settings listed above this paragraph, and the image will look fine.
[A side note: If you do not know what "Game Mode" does, on many TV's and monitors it basically reduces the input lag, or the latency, of the display. I looked through the manual for my particular model of monitor, and it does not mention that it specifically reduces the latency, but I turned Game Mode on anyways. Also note that I do not have a proper latency tester in my possession, so I currently cannot confirm if Game Mode actually reduces input lag.]
3. My monitor has a tendency to dim itself when it sees a dark image, making it somewhat hard to see scenes that are mostly covered by shadows in fullscreen mode. Not sure if this can be alleviated by adjusting the settings, but just thought that I'd mention it.
Congratulations! You made it to the end of this guide. Your reward is hopefully a better image. :) Feel free to suggest any improvements to these settings in the future. These old Samsung monitors are starting to become quite cheap, with many people listing them for as low as $30 on my local Craigslist market.
Best of luck to all of you!
Edit: I forgot to mention, when you are in the "Picture" menu, go to the sub-menu called "Picture Options," and change the following settings:
Color Tone: Cool
Size: Screen Fit
Digital Noise Filter: Off
MPEG Noise Filter: Off
HDMI Black Level: Normal
Film Mode: Off
Auto Protection Time: 2 hours
I left the Auto Protection Time at 2 hours to minimize the chance of burn-in, but I'm not sure how much this actually helps. Once again, best of luck! ;)
funny this video still gets views. was taken with an iphone. video wasn't really good at showing color correction, more or less how to turn off all the annoying things that modern tv's try to do.
Haha yeah it’s the first video that comes up when you look up color settings for Samsung displays.
I do not see a calibrated TV here. No one calibrates a Samsung TV in Natural mode. Movie mode (or Cal-Day, Cal-Night mode) are the only ones that allow you to control every aspect of your picture in the user menu. A true calibrated TV is calibrated to a standard, with greyscale, color, gamma, and all other aspects as close to reference as possible. This requires a colorimeter or spectrophotometer, software, and some test patterns. Without this, you can make it appeal to the eye maybe, but you are missing the benefits of a true calibration. This should have been titled "My Samsung HDTV picture settings", nothing about calibration. Not trying to rain on your parade, I am sure you did this to help share your settings for others. But what I am saying is true, I have the Samsung 55" JU7100 UHD TV, X-rite i1 Display Pro 3 colorimeter, and Chromapure as well as HCFR software for calibration. That is the minimum you need to get your TV calibrated properly. It makes a world of difference, trust me!
Hi all I just have to share my settings with you..
I bought this tv at Costco
Samsung 50" Class (49.5" Diag.) 1080p Smart LED HDTV UN50H6201AFXZA

Movie mode is best and just pump a bit of brightness to your taste.
I calibrated my samsung F5000 series and pretty much had the same settings as you after trial and error.
backlight - 17
contrast - 88
bright - 50
sharp - 25
color - 69
my picture mode was set to standard instead of natural, as natural seemed a tiny bit dull
These are settings for old people that cant see that well
This guy sounds like Seth Rogan!
Auto motion must be off, if you dont want motion blurr. I should know i work for samsung. Black light should be 8-10. Picture mode eveything off except HDMI black level should be low.
I was playing with an F8000 in the store. If I remember correctly these are the settings I had.
Picture Mode: Standard or Normal (forgot what it was called)
Backlight: 12
Contrast: 85-90
Brightness: 70
Color: 50
Tint: 50/50
Color Tone: Normal
I don't remember what I had the advanced and picture options set too but that should get you started. I was watching in a dimly lit room and it looked pretty good.
A 'calibration' is, by definition, making a TV act like a broadcast monitor, personal preferences dont come into it. Here are more accurate settings for a Samsung. Picture: Movie. Cont: 70, Bri: around 40-45, Sharp: usually on a Sammy is 7 or less. Col: 50. Tint 50/50. Automotion plus: off. DNR's: off. Screen size: Screen fit. Col tone: warm2. Dynamic contrast off: Local led dimming, depends on how much greyish corners bother you. Is this a cali? Nope, but its way better than out of box mode. :D
I would hate watching a TV with those settings. It would be too dark, blurry and to red-ish.
Contrast: 90
Brightness: 65
Sharpness: 80
Color: 50
Color Tone: Standard or Cool1 if the TV has 2 cool settings.
Brightness 40 is VERY dark and Warm2 looks unrealistic.
Turn up the back light, turn down the sharpness and the black tone to darker or darkest. I almost took mine back to the store because of the graininess, until I googled samsung 40 in tv settings.
I have a PN51E8000. I currently watch it in Dynamic Mode. What should I watch it in. TO me When I go to Movie mode it look Dull and washed out. And Dynamic mode looks bright and vibrant.
agree. samsung is making crap led tv now. the picture quality is very poor. sorry i bought one too and wasted too much time trying to calibrate for a good picture configuration.
how about the calibrations for the Samsung f8000 just got mine and picture looks horrible any advice how to make the picture better
any color setting over 60 will look horrid on that tv. To get the color realistic you need to be around 40
Lol I thought this would actually be a useful video for once but its just basic settings everyone knows about.
Thanks a lot for the experience bro
lets face it. its just a crap tv. sorry i bought one.
colour is too high, needs to be around 42
These settings are clearly your own personal preference, which is fine, however, the most accurate picture mode on Samsung TV’s is Movie mode. It keeps the picture enhancement settings turned off and sets the correct colour temperature, which is Warm2
:) this video is super old too. is more or less just walking people through the menus and things to look out for.
i have had 3 high quality samsung TV's and the entire 3 have major picture issues. All 3 are smart tv's with the best panels and still no matter what settings have been calibrated, the picture quality is just not as sharp as the old tube TV's. I guess with samsung unless you buy one of their 3000k tv's - you just wont get the sharpest picture quality.
try CNET GUYS
IN SEARCH TYPE YOUR MODEL NUMBER AND YOU WILL GET VERY PRECISE SETTING
Anan Lama
lcdtvbuyingguide. com did a calibration of a samsung UN55f7100af and it didnt even need calibrated they tightened up the color gambit and wave spectrum but gamma was perfect so samsung knows best :) granted thats a 2100$ tv
I was wondering why the picture looked so off to me during the first part of the video then I realized it when you showed the menu. Your color is at 70! Wow, no wonder all the people looked like they had fake spray tans and the couch on the Vonage commercial.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Avoid dynamic mode especially on your plasma as its the least accurate, runs the hottest and is more prone to burn-in. Bright does not mean better. Movie mode tends to be the Just accurate on almost all samsungs. You can then up cell light to brighten the image and add alittle color. DO NOT crank up brightness as u will wash out black level and subsequently wash out colors.
Go to the plug and play option in the menu and turn the gaming mode on.Then go back to the picture options.I turn down the sharpness so it wasn't so pixelated. Then you can use the advanced settings.
Wow that looks terrible.....way to much color and contrast. They look sun burnt and shine as if they're wet
You must be lucky. I've been reading a lot of comments over at AVS Forums about Samsung LCD TVs and many people have noticed shuddering with those settings.
I have a problem with videos games, it's like a delay of sound or videos. I mean when I press a button, it responses a little bit after, can help me, is there any form in order to fix the problem ?
The Auto Motion settings you have of both 10 is going to cause massive shuddering on some scenes.
I recommend energy saving set to low or medium if your going to be using back light on full 20
other wise back light should be set to 10 or 50%
Contrast should never be higher or lower then 75%
Everything else 50%
As for sharpness though that's a toss up no really knows if you should be at zero or 50%
Hey you would mind posting what you set yours for the advanced options. Mine seems a too grey too without turning on dynamic contrast low to full. Doing a side by side comparison with dynamic contrast on and off seems to help the greyness problem during a good black scene.
Any time you dial past 50% you'll get unnatural color. Unless you only watch movies like avatar....
Get to it, jeeeeeeezzz.
I just got this TV as a computer monitor, but online it says its a 720p, but in the store it was listed as 1080p, I'm confused by the conflicting information.
every hdtv has high back light, or else the colours wouldn't show up in hd
Great review. I have the Samsung 39 led 5000f model. Quick question under advanced options I like the dynamic contrast to be Set either low to full more blacks appear in the picture . I'm using your settings but its hard not to turn on dynamic contrast while on a scene for a test with good blacks
Thanks' really appreciate the advice il try this tonight see how it goes if you know any more advice how to make the picture even better can you let me know please thanks
I think perfect calibration is what looks good to you. I calibrated my Samsung according to manufacturer's suggestion and I hated it. I have it set now to Dynamic picture mode. Backlight: 4. Contrast: 85. Brightness: 25 Sharpness: 80. Default hue.It looks great to me.
Hello Sir. I have a small problem I hope. I've been trying my hardest to find the settings for the soap opera look but haven't been very successful. I have a 64" inch Samsung smart TV that I got as a Father's Day gift 3yrs ago. but it would be nice if I could change the way I watch certain movies sometimes. I don't see the same name for this feature in my settings is it possible that it's under a different name or does my television not have that feature. Great video btw. 👍🏾💥🔥💯

Hi Mr. Garagenation,
I just wanted to Thank you, I used your settings on my 21" Samsung TV computer monitor. The color has never been better. I was so frustrated because the user manual didn't really help me get the best color possible. Just for the heck of it I went on You tube, and found your settings. Just completely change my life, because i use my computer every day like a regular house hold appliance.
this is because of how the iphone captured the video. its not representative of the real picture.
notice at 4.04 backlight bleed from right and left bottom corner, I have a similar bleed on my tv. do u know a fix for this backlight bleed
Hi i bought samsung smart tv, but the graph is not thats good how do i make like you're high quality.
well, i captured that video with a telephone. its not representative of the actual picture.
How enable auto adjustment
Don’t know bud. This video be 7yr old 😅
I was told turning up the back light reduces how long your Tv will last!
is it that much color or is it the camera
I am just about ready to return a Samsung 4K TV that I bought on Black Friday. The motion blur is too hard on my eyes, and I can't completely get rid of it no matter what settings I use. I can set it so there is less motion blur, but I can't get it to go away completely in everything I watch. I think this is unacceptable, and I feel like the TV was not worth the price I paid for it even after getting 150 dollars off. I agree that natural picture mode has the best picture, but this is the only TV that I have ever had with this motion blur that I can't get rid of.
Tom Veil Same problem bro, I've tried everything I can to get rid of the motion blur and it does not go. I can make it less noticeable but it is still noticeable.
does this work for gaming also ?
Does all Samsung LED tv support Auto Motion Plus? I can't seem to find mine. My model is a UA50F5500AMXXS
I don't believe all Samsungs come with Auto Motion Plus... judging from the 5500, it's a low-mid level Samsung (Series 4, 5, 6, 7, 8), and I think the Auto Motion settings come in at mid-high (6, 7, 8). If it's there, it should be under Picture Options.
My tv does not have the "natural" setting does normal work?
Wat about calibrations for gaming?
what bout the advanced options??
what model TV is this, just asking
I use the same settings for everything.
all kinds of ads over this video
how do you change the language
what do you have everything else on?
All these stupid settings, there was none of this on my old crt telly and the picture was just fine.
Will it work 2p Minecraft?
This was very helpful.
how about sharpness?
Samsung to pixely
you speak too slowly
Contrast: 65
Color: 40-45
works for me.
Musica de darelles
thx man that helped a ton :)
U'xxx
Backlight 40
I need Help on how to set TV Channels on a New 40" LED Samsung TV that I just purchased at Walmart for $223.00. It is just a plain TV and it is not a Smart TV. I do not have any Cable or Dish and I am just using an old Rabbit Ears type TV Antenna to get FREE TV. With my old fashioned TV that weighed a Ton - I could move my Antenna around to different positions and get about 56 channels. Now with the New Samsung Flat Screen TV it uses an Automatic Function to set the Channels - therefore if the Antenna is in one position when I run the Automatic Channel Find it leaves out certain channels. If I move the Antenna to a different position and re-run the Automatic Channel finder it leaves out different Channels. How can I add in the missing Channels? I have tried clicking on a channel and having it added to the channel list such as Channel 27, but then it doesn't let me add channel 27.1 or 27.2 and so on. Then the TV doesn't want to play the channels I added no matter where I put the antenna. Anyone have any ideas or tricks to add channels???
44357514 yes. Ready? Buy a smart tv!!!
The faces looks like umpa lumpa.need too lower that color dude.
I really love the soap opera effect. How do I get that?
