    1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am | Atlantis Blue | 4-Speed | # Matching 6.6L V8 Fresh Rebuild | WS6 | Hurst T tops | A/C | Buildsheet
    This 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was built at the Van Nuys, California, assembly plant and was delivered to Colvin Pontiac-GMC of Denver, Colorado. The car is finished in Atlantis Blue over a blue velour cloth interior, and power is provided by a numbers-matching 6.6-liter V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip rear differential. Additional equipment includes tinted glass removable Hurst T-top roof panels, the WS6 special handling package with four-wheel disc brakes, 17″ snowflake wheels, a shaker hood, front and rear spoilers, air conditioning, and an aftermarket Pioneer CD stereo. .
    The body is finished in Atlantis Blue with blue and white graphics and a blue and white "screaming chicken" hood decal. Additional equipment includes removable tinted glass Hurst T-top roof panels, a shaker hood, front and rear spoilers, lower rear wheel moldings, front fender vents, and quad exhaust outlets. 17″ YearOne snowflake wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich g-Force Comp-2 tires measuring 245/45 up front and 275/40 out back. The car was factory equipped with the WS6 Special Performance Package, specifying power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, a quick-ratio steering box, and a thicker sway bar compared to a standard Trans Am.
    The interior is trimmed in light blue with matching door panels, blue carpets, and a blue dash pad. The optional Custom Trim Group specified velour cloth upholstery, door handle ornamentation, and chrome pedal trim. Additional equipment includes power windows, power locks, a factory air-conditioning system that has been converted to R134a refrigerant, a center console, and an aftermarket Pioneer CD stereo with USB connectivity. An engine-turned bezel houses a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock, a 100-mph speedometer, and gauges for oil pressure and coolant temperature. Gauges for fuel level and battery voltage are housed in the center of the dash.
    The 6.6-liter V8 just underwent a complete professional rebuild in 2023 and features a Rochester Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor. Additional service included a engine bay respray in the factory black, new brake lines, replacement of the air conditioning hard lines, installing a new compressor cycling switch, and charging the system with R134a as well as a new headliner! The last six digits of the engine identification stamp read 123160, which matches the last six digits of the VIN on the cowl and the door sticker. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Borg-Warner T10 four-speed manual transmission and a 3.23:1 limited-slip differential.

      Was it possible that’s what they used in CA since it was built there? 🤷‍♂️

    • @creolegaudet
      @creolegaudet ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@scottback3020 Nope. Hurst stopped making them the year before and from what I remember, they weren't even the same size and they were always leaking. The Hurst made top did not go as deep to the center as the Fisher tops. I'm not impressed with the fitment of the body panels on this car either. That passenger door took a lifting of the handle and a strong tug for it to open. Lots of lipstick but it's still a pig underneath. I guess it depends on what they're asking for it...

      Wow. I went back and watched it again. Those panel gaps were all over the place. Especially the hood at front. 😳. Also missing braces from fenders to core support. The chrome trim on top of doors and fenders but not the hood. Along with the wrong t-tops for the year. This car has a story not being told and should never bring the $55k asking price. Hopefully the buyer pays attention to these details and knows this is a car that’s been put together from donor cars and could get scary to what’s under that paint.

      @@scottback3020 No, assembly in Norwood, OH or Van Nuys, CA had nothing to do with that. From 1976 to mid 1978, Hurst T-tops were available. From mid-1978 through 1981, Fisher (GM in house) T-tops were available. This vehicle had them added at the dealership/after it was built. This is a Van Nuys, CA assembled car but it would still would have had Fisher tops from GM.

    • @MarkRoberts-bj2me
      @MarkRoberts-bj2me 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The rarer color was the one year only Nocturne Blue and coupled with the Camel Hobnail interior was the Poncho Poster Car for ‘79. Hurst T-Tops have a bad rep because of leakage and is a deduct since Fisher was used at the plants. Possibly the cat has been pulled out since even the big block 400 does not sound like this car. Whatever exhaust system has been installed, it’s not functioning properly. Taking the gaps into consideration 55K is a stretch.

    • @512bb
      @512bb 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry but you're just wrong about the Nocturne Blue, it was quite popular, especially with the tan hobnail &vgold call outs. As a matter of fact it was the feature model in the factory brochure. I graduated high school in 79, ordered my T/A , even lost my job waiting 2 months for delivery because they kept pushing back delivery because of the Fisher t-top option. And I wouldn't opt for the Hurst tops, not only because they were well known as leaking & they looked like crap compared to the factory tops. They even offered me the Peters tops which looked like a one piece top when in place/ And yes, mine was Nocturne Blue. I've been a T/A collector for many years, now these quite well. The Nocturne was amoung the most popular colors, along with the Starlight Black, Cameo White Solar Gold & Heritage Brown . And Nocturn Blue Formulas were everywhere to be seen. @@MarkRoberts-bj2me

      I have a 1979 Trans Am in this color Atlantis blue. It was and still is my first car. I bought it in 2002 when I was 15. It’s an awesome color. Like you said it’s rare. So you hardly see one.

  • @74SD455TA

    I had a 1978 Martinique blue T/A with the Fisher T-tops and they were very nice. In l978 you could have ordered or opted for the Hurst jobs but why? They were very small, Iook at that gap between and they leaked like nobody's tomorrow. You can see evidence of that on this one when you look at the back when the guy is taking off the top. One other thing that is odd to me, is the oil filler cap that sticks way up. That does not seem to be a Pontiac item of that day? I don't know that since my 1978 T/A had the Olds motor in it....boy did that bother me.

    The chrome trim work around the front and rear glass has been replaced and is wrong. All Trans Ams the trim around the front and rear windows was blacked out and is not suppose to be chrome. They did little things like that from the factory to differentiate the Trans Am from the Firebird. Just like the air ducts in the front fenders. Firebird don’t have those but Trans Ams do. So unless this was an odd bird and somehow it was ordered with chrome trim around the front and rear windows, that part is incorrect. But I’m not going to pick this thing apart anymore because it seems to be a very nice car. And some were talking about the gaps in between the doors and hood etc. Honestly that’s probably good old GM quality control. A lot of cars from the factory when new had bad body panel gapping. It was the 70s. And it’s GM.

    It's a nice car, but needs details as others have pointed out:
    1) The filler pipe on the LH valve cover is not original. The filler is just a chrome cap on the valve cover.
    2) The under hood braces are missing.
    3) The panel gap spacing while terrible from GM originally is still terrible. This is a Van Nuys, CA assembled car so it's the worst of the worst. Van Nuys was one of the worst plants in the GM system in 1979, it was rife with labor problems, alcohol and drug abuse and general malaise.
    4) The steering wheel center cap should be blue to match the column.
    5) For the asking price, the interior should be cleaned up a bit.
    6) The engine is painted the wrong color, it should be a darker "corporate" blue.
    7) The under hood is very sloppy. There are missing grounds and bolts.
    8) That's not a "shop manual". That is the assembly manual and it's for a 1980, not a 1979, although it will work for 99% of what you'd have to do on the vehicle in fairness.
    9) Those wheels are hideous, but at least you have the originals.
    There are other things I'm sure, but that's what stands out at the moment.
