This video could've been good if you knew how to make videos, and show the correct year images of cars you're talking about. You mention the '74 SD-455, then show a '73. You mention the '73 SD-455, and show a '71. Really, you're gonna say '70 R A IV, instead of Ram Air IV? Sorry, but the '69 RA V wasn't a factory production engine, and no cars came from the factory with it, it was only available in parts over the counter, so that's wrong. The end of your list is missing the 8 convertibles, which were all RA III engines, and the rarest 1 of 1 Trans Am is the only '69 convertible with the white interior. If it's all about the rarest Trans Ams, why do you keep showing Firebird Formulas? 🤔🤦‍♂️

Yes, the video jumps all around. My girlfriend, Janie Sue ordered a Formula in 71 I believe. She never received it and now I know why. Twenty five years ago I was looking for a 70 to restore. Little did I know what they would fetch in these times. But the video shows some nice cars but it is a butchered piece.

My friend back in 1977 bought a used 1967 Firebird 400 HO rag top in red with a white top and he payed next to nothing for it. It was super bad assed. When he got it, it is was in excellent condition but he trashed in in about 2 or 3 months. So sad.

In 1978, my graduation present was a 1968 Firebird with a factory 400. I am still in love with that car. Having had a few cocktails, I felt a little froggy one night, and with my buddy in tow, we found an empty country road between Oklahoma and Texas. I asked him if he was ready, and he grunted as he looked at his crotch. I let her fly. As I approached 140mph, I went over a small bump on the road. Having no after-market alterations, the airflow changed and lifted the car about 6" . This to me felt like my car was on its tiptoes. I took my foot off the gas pedal and very gingerly applied the brakes. I had forgotten about a set of double S curves. I hit those at 80 mph, and she stuck to the road. I've heard you don't know what you've got till it's gone, but to experience it is another thing altogether. I sold it to my brother-in-laws brother. I really liked Brad until they juiced the engine and sold it to someone else. It probably still resides in Phoenix to this day. That car was all heart, and I wished I had it back. I'm cosigned to searching the pastures of southern Oklahoma and north Texas to find another and build it. Good times, good times.

It's good to see a video honoring this era. Even though the muscle era was in decline by '73 (with cars becoming heavier with safety regs, burdened with emissions control, and beleaguered with fuel economy demands), these cars still had personas that will never be equaled. Besides, with a little ingenuity and the right tools/know-how, it wasn't too hard to get around the emissions crap. Later, when ECUs were added, bypassing got a whole lot tougher....

Absolutely, If you have basic 455 or 400 platform 1 hp per cube is not that hard to do. First thing is measure hp at crank rather than wheels and that would almost double the factory rating which was lower than the lowest hp that would actually be measured since it was rated not measured hp. I'm only looking at up to 79, but the electronics in the ignition system to that point wasn't doing much. In fact on the 79 all that it did that I know of is replace the points. Which if I were tweaking things that would be something I would want. Eliminating ported vacuum was OK but that de-tuning associated with that only affected the car until the engine warmed up and then you were on normal full vacuum. So some of those "Oh so feared emissions controls" weren't even working (by design) at operating temperatures which is where you were 99% of the time. The cat was fixed with dual exhaust, oops forgot to put the cat back on. The restrictor plate in the exhaust was wide open at op. temp., but better to just take all the guts out of it. GM put on a great smoke and mirrors show for the EPA and really kept a lot of what I call "deactivated" but not removed performance.

Would be interesting to collect the engine codes on all these RA/V’s stamped into the block. In 1970 I purchased a RA/IV crate engine from Seltzer Pontiac in Chicago. They had three of them there.I asked them why they need those there,as I was fearful that they were having mechanical problems with them under warranty. He said that those were being modified for racing with parts that they requisitioned from Pontiac. At that time,I didn’t even know it was a RA/IV until I removed the massive cast iron headers in order to set it into the engine mounts of a ‘64 GTO.Those huge round exhaust ports triggered me to do some research,as I was not familiar with such a Pontiac thing.Engine code on my block was WH.That’s when I realized that the dealer was probably making RA/V’s out of RA/IV’s with those factory parts.Awesome engine, you can get aftermarket in different displacements now.

@tommurphy4307 lol , was using a adjustable speedo drive and calibrated over a measured roadway , and multiple passes were made , and typically even the factory speedometers are
within 6 mph of pure accuracy , the police would not be able to make citations of people driving over the posted speed limit if they were not very close to the actual speed , especially with the readily available various types of radar/lidar to the general public that is interested in them

in cars where the speedo does not goe as high a 140 or 160 MPH , or not working at all , there are OBD2 devices , laptop devices etc that can be connected , then there is the simplicity of watching the tachometer continue to raise in rpm , in the final drive high gear and tach continuing to raise , it means the speed is raising as well , and there are more ways to watch this calculate ,..... but you can have your CHP help you learn things you yet need to learn Cheers !

@@kubicmile9609 A gps with wass correction would be close enough I would think. I mean we're talking getting "about" speeds.
Correct on RPM, if you go thru all the gear ratios you can calculate how fast the rear tires are spinning and thus speed. Variables would be transmission slip (laughable), but increase in tire diameter as speed increases is something I've never tried to put a number to, but maybe a small correction there (that would raise the actual above calculated speed anyway) . Just drive the Ohio turnpike you will get several data points pretty quick.

Although I like the thought of this video, it seems that you haven't done your research properly. You're showing wrong pictures of Trans Am's, videos of formulas.. And mentioning that the 71' 455 HO made more power and accelerated faster than a 70' RAIV? I'm sorry man, but that just isn't the case. Even the 70' RAIII was faster at accelerating than the 71' 455 HO, due to its higher horsepower 400 CU engine.. Again, I acknowledge the fact that you want to talk about a brand of cars so major in history of American V8 cars, but there are just too many errors :/

I had a 1970 1/2 it had the 455 h. o. decal on the shaker scoop. Like an idiot I repainted the car silver put mags with big tires in the back and had a plastics company recreate the shaker hood in Plexiglas smoke tint. I know now that was stupid but back then very few kept things original.

Listing 0-60 times and top speeds is a waste of time because there are too many variables and most serious street racers built their cars up anyway so some magazine time is meaningless.

Wow, half way pretty good, BUT IT WOULD"VE BEEN NICE IF YOU KEPT THE CARS CORRECT FOR EACH YEAR YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT !!!! and there was also a few other little things wrong too, but the biggest one was that Pontiac NEVER built a 69' R/A V Trans Am !!!! Really would be nice to see whoever does these video's would actually take the time and do the research on what it is that they're going to make a video about before they do them !!!!!!!
