Ugh the opening of this song reprising the melody of "We Know the Way" was just beautiful... can't beleive they left any of this song out of the movie. But its perfectuly classic broadway, cant wait to see it on a stage one day.
Kinda was this isn't in the movie, but this definitely sounds like a Broadway song. Hopefully if Disney brings Moana to Broadway, they'll consider putting in some of these scrapped songs.
Keo Lacebal if they do, then most likely. A few of the songs in The Lion King on Broadway and Aladdin on Broadway are scrapped songs that weren't put in the original movies.
It's also clearly written for an earlier version of the script. "Somehow I know she'd want me to go..." - In the theatrical version we got she was quite explicit in telling Moana to go and send her off on her mission. These lyrics also imply that Gramma Tala raised Moana to be a wayfinder, as well as teaching her the true history of her people.
I know even though was not in the film this songs fit moana but that break so human it makes me well up with tearsup you can hear the heatbreak in that one break is beautiful
This song is so beautiful, i can't stop tearing up. This song means so much to me right now. Lin and the others did such a great job on the whole soundtrack!
I already started crying during Where You Are so this would've really fucked me up. It's common for me to cry while watching Disney movies in theaters though....
After losing my grandma in November this hit home. I miss her alot. The lyrics I look back at them my grandma was similar she taught me alot and I regret not listening to all her stories. But will continue life as she wanted me to.
It most likely did not fit anywhere in the movie, which is already 2 hours long. But it's good that they realized how awesome the songs is and they released it on the soundtrack. (:
this song was not written for the movies story. in the song her grandmother taught her to wayfind.... which didn't happen in the movie. simply enough, the song was written for a draft that is rather completely different from the movie that hit theaters.
In comparison, More is a whole lot sadder than How Far I'll Go and I'm kind of glad that How Far I'll Go was in the movie instead of More because if it wasn't I would've been sobbing at the movie theater instead of sniffling as quietly as I could.
AnilleDragonMeister You've not heard the full version of "More", have you? That version wasn't sad. A tiny bit bratty if I must be completely honest but it's really good. This is the reprise for More, similar to How Far I'll Go had a main song and a reprise after her grandmother passed.
Lyrics She showed me day after day How to find my way She taught me how to rely On the wind and sky She named me after the sea She believed in me I know we used to be bold From the tales she told I know she left me prepared From the things she shared There was more she wanted to see Staring at the bearing and together in the shore we Practiced all the names of everyone who came before me Voyages, warriors, ancestors in pur line. Their blood runs in mine. She always knew more she hungered for more She taught me More. And somehow I know She'd want me to go To navigate you have to keep your island in your mind You know what lies ahed if you remember whats behind you Wanna find the answers to the questions that you still don't know You just have to go Find more, I wanna know more, there's always moew -Unfinished-
Jesus, aren't "How Far I'll Go (Reprise)" and "I Am Moana" (and Tala's part of "Where You Are") wringing enough eye salts from the people? If they left this in, we'd all be desiccated husks. (Meanwhile, totally called it that Tala gave Moana her name-- no way her dad would've come up with that.)
Cicadian Rhythm she probably named her that cause she new her destiny? honestly whatever reason it is tala- in my opinion, played the biggest role in moana's life, specifically her self discovery.
I wish this reprise of "More" was an independent song (with some lyrics changed) in the movie instead of maybe the reprise of "How Far I'll Go"...which I also deeply love but this one here has SO much more emotion, it would just get to you, cut so deep. Then again..the HFIG reprise already gets to me and the "More" reprise in the movie would've probably destroyed me and I would've never stopped crying :D
She was found and pronounced… at the scene She was already lying in bed The paramedics said That her heart gave out… I mean, that’s basically what they said. They said A combination of the stress and the heat… Why she never took her medicine, I’ll never understand I’d like to think she went out in peace With pieces of bread crumbs in her hand Abuela Claudia had simple pleasures She sang the praises of things we ignore Glass Coke bottles, bread crumbs, a sky full of stars She cherished these things, she’d say: “Alabanza.” Alabanza means to raise this Thing to God’s face And to sing, quite literally: “Praise to this.” When she was here, the path was clear And she was just here, she was just here… In the heights feelssssssssss
Oh my god, I didn’t think that many people remembered in the heights, I think both Hamilton and In the Heights are excellent. The same level, maybe Hamilton more because even though it has 2 times the songs In the Heights had, it never bores me
Want some feels? The same song, but it's Eliza singing at Angelica's grave. Eliza is confused about her duty to the world around her. She realizes that there's still more left to do. And so she starts her journey as the most integral part of the Schuyler-Hamilton Story
Well, was that not predictable? Moana has two parents, but then has only one known grandparent. Disney tries to evoke feeling. Also, there's a song called Tala's deathbed, so...I'm sorry for your loss.😨😭
Well, there's a chance the song was cut before visuals were ever made. If they have visuals, I would really love to see them, but I think they probably dont have visuals
I'm kind of thankful this song wasn't left in the movie. I lost my grandma and Tala reminded me so much of her that when she died in the movie I almost couldn't take it. This song would have broken me. It's beautiful though!
It great, but it's more of a stage number. It's like if this song was in a show, they would have the time to set it all up and have this be the ending song leaning into the reprise of "How Far I'll Go." The thing if this were still in, it would be there would have to be enough time for as callback to "We Know the Way" to be impactful, and film doesn't do so well with a meandering first act. If this every gets a stage adaptation it will really fit in.
aeondolphin totally agree with you. this song felt very Broadway to me (well no duh, but this one's got a theatre vibe). This would work great with a stage adaptation. And I would love if moana was on Broadway. Just think how sick Tamatoa would look!
hopefully in like 10 years when they release it from the disney vault again they will add this scene just like they did in beauty and the beast with when we're human again
This is the original song reprise that Moana was going to sing. It was a demo that Lin worked on. The final product was How Far I'll Go and the subsequent reprise.
Also human again was mostly finished when BATB came out in theaters, they just cut it from the production because it added nothing to the main story line.
+Harry Starzec Plus "More" doesn't fit with Moana as the plot currently is. Here it's implied she knows how to navigate, or at least was taught more than she was in the movie, and she knew about the ancestors. Not to mention that, personally, "More" makes Moana sound a lot more selfish and self-centered; in the movie her conflict was between her duty and responsibility to her people and her desire to explore the sea, both of which she cared about deeply, and this conflict doesn't appear in "More," only a cliched desire to escape the island because the island is boring and she doesn't fit in and "yay, adventure." Moana's responsibility to her people and to her duty as leader and future chief is one of the things that appealed to me most as a viewer; I wouldn't want it to change just because "More" and it's reprise was more musically satisfying to me.
Lin's style can definitely be heard from this 😅 I wish the first part of the lyrics were kept and somehow worked into the movie, since it would show even more depth to Moana's relationship with her gramma Tala (as she gave Moana her name)
This is one of the best songs I've ever heard that got cut. Also, it's *so* Hamilton-y. The clearest parallels here: My father wasn't around / from the tales she told I wrote my way out of hell / We practiced all the names of everyone who came before me They have *incredibly similar* styles, if you go back and listen (I'm talking structure and/or rhythm, not content, by the way). Also, is it just me, or is there a bit of Wait For It and Burr's major part in Nonstop here? There's certainly a lot of "My motivation is..."
this song is lovely but i understand why they left it out of the movie. the moment it would take place is more powerful due to its lack of dialogue, using only the score and visuals to tell the story. also, 'how far i'll go' would have to piggy back right after it and lose its impact. but i'm pleased to hear it on the soundtrack :D
Why was this cut?? It's so perfect, it had the tune of the theme of the movie and it worked so well. It's inspirational and it would have been my favorite song from the movie! It could have been the new Let It Go lol
I like this version so much more than the reprise in the final movie. Idk, it was just too cheerfull, I sat there crying a little and suddenly Moana is singing a happy tune and takes off on her adventure. Whereas this song contains a feel of sadness while also being inspring.
This IS beautiful, but it's definitely too long. I think the other one's more inspiring and it doesn't have all these expository lyrics like this one. Still, I'm glad they kept parts from this in the film.
Honestly, this movie's soundtrack is the strongest Disney's had in awhile.
versailleschick1994 well Lin is involved ;)
Nah... Frozen hands down...
Very true
Thanks to Lin Miranda
ikr. mulan personally has one of the best soundtracks in my mind though
In my language, "more" means "sea", so, for me, that word has two meanings which collide beautifully in this song making my heart race.
what language?
@@anita_daphne_apparently Russian
Is very interesting the Polinesian cultures and new lenguges
Ugh the opening of this song reprising the melody of "We Know the Way" was just beautiful... can't beleive they left any of this song out of the movie. But its perfectuly classic broadway, cant wait to see it on a stage one day.
I believe they left this out cause this implied that the mom died, but they wanted to avoid that particular cliche. (Edit: nevermind)
Some of these lines were recycled for other tracks when this was cut. Thank god, they're too beautiful to throw out.
littlemissSnowyAdora Not only the lines but the melody as well. The beginning remind me of We Know the Way.
Lucas Sebá What are you talking about? I said Tristan Neal by accident when I tap his username by accident also
well it is a reprise
I wish this song was in the movie SO BAD.. gives me chills every time, really develops the emotion in the story.
This gave me chills!! I wish they put this in the movie because you can seriously FEEL the emotion and passion in this track
Keo Lacebal Not sure how More can fit into the musical since it was replaced with How Far I'll Go. It wasn't cut for time constraints.
Well, lin manuel miranda helped write and compose these so...
If you don't know who lin manuel miranda is, lets just say he's big in theatre.
Wait...this is cut??? No...it's so amazing.
Beautifullytragic6 wish was in movie to
+Beautifullytragic6 It was written when the movie had a different plot, and thus didn't fit anymore.
AlashiaTuol yeah since it was originaly about a girl who meets her ancestors
Biglarge Epeqe Originally*
Moana "I will see what's on the other side"
Hamilton "I will see you on the other side"
😍😍😍😍 this is the absolute best
It refers to very different other sides.
Awwwww!!!!
This is no doubt Lins work. His work always has this feel to it that gives me goosebumps. I love it!
Ok, but seriously, I'm playing this soundtrack on loop all the time now, but still every time her voice breaks at 0:53 IT KILLS ME!
Same! So powerful.
This would have destroyed me if they left this in the movie.
UTAUxKURENAI me to
it would be like 20minutes into the movie and I would have been flooded with tears lmao
Talk about it. I'd have died if she sang this after grandma died
Yeah, I was tearing up already from that part, if she sang it after I would have bawled.
But will continue life as she wanted me to.
this should have been the song sang at the part when her grandmother died instead of the other reprise. this gave me way more chills.
Yeah but I think they cut it out because it sounds like they rewrite the script for the movie.
Lin, your Hamilton and Usnavi are showing 😍😍😍
Erin Nicole Vedar my friend has an obsession with Hamilton
You can really tell Lin Manuel miranda helped write/compose this.
Yep, I'm getting Hamilton vibes.
me too lol
Lilli rice
so true😂
Imagine if he and John Powell united in the great world of soundtracks!
i can only tell by the speed for some reason
Every song in the Moana soundtrack sounds like Lin and that makes me happy
Why did they not release this in the movie? My goodness Lin-Manuel knows how to pull at my heart strings.
It most likely did not fit anywhere in the movie, which is already 2 hours long. But it's good that they realized how awesome the songs is and they released it on the soundtrack. (:
+Regina Glacie this is unrelated but since you mentioned the movie run for two hours, it didn't feel two hours at all, that's how good it is ☺
this song was not written for the movies story.
in the song her grandmother taught her to wayfind.... which didn't happen in the movie.
simply enough, the song was written for a draft that is rather completely different from the movie that hit theaters.
Zachary Khan I think the reprise of How far will I go took the place of this. This is when she prepares and sails away.
Yeah, and More is like How Far I'll Go. They had a different plot before. It didn't fit so they took this out of the movie.
This such a beautiful song I was doubting this movie but omg I need see this soundtrack is awesome
1:26 - 1:45 is so damn intense. The "More" songs would have made Moana a whole lot easier to connect with.
This is really good....
In comparison, More is a whole lot sadder than How Far I'll Go and I'm kind of glad that How Far I'll Go was in the movie instead of More because if it wasn't I would've been sobbing at the movie theater instead of sniffling as quietly as I could.
AnilleDragonMeister true. more is good but i understand why they decided not to include it.
AnilleDragonMeister I actually prefer more, because it has so much emotion. But how far ill go is also amazing😍
I cry every freaking time I hear How Far I'll Go like a big baby.
I like this one more, but I don't see how How Far I'll Go replaced this...?
AnilleDragonMeister You've not heard the full version of "More", have you? That version wasn't sad. A tiny bit bratty if I must be completely honest but it's really good. This is the reprise for More, similar to How Far I'll Go had a main song and a reprise after her grandmother passed.
Lyrics
She showed me day after day
How to find my way
She taught me how to rely
On the wind and sky
She named me after the sea
She believed in me
I know we used to be bold
From the tales she told
I know she left me prepared
From the things she shared
There was more she wanted to see
Staring at the bearing and together in the shore we
Practiced all the names of everyone who came before me
Voyages, warriors, ancestors in pur line.
Their blood runs in mine.
She always knew more
she hungered for more
She taught me
More.
And somehow I know
She'd want me to go
To navigate you have to keep your island in your mind
You know what lies ahed if you remember whats behind you
Wanna find the answers to the questions that you still don't know
You just have to go
Find more, I wanna know more, there's always moew
-Unfinished-
Beautiful.
this song is amazing. I cried listening to it.❤
This is amazing, so inspiring and emotional, i wish it was in the movie too, the song deserves it.
This is my favourite song and it isn't going to be in the movie. I'm kinda bummed.
That made me cry....beautiful
You can tell that this was written by Lin Manuel Miranda because someone is died and it's a reprise
I’m getting Phillip flashbacks! WHY?!
Jesus, aren't "How Far I'll Go (Reprise)" and "I Am Moana" (and Tala's part of "Where You Are") wringing enough eye salts from the people? If they left this in, we'd all be desiccated husks.

Cicadian Rhythm she probably named her that cause she new her destiny? honestly whatever reason it is tala- in my opinion, played the biggest role in moana's life, specifically her self discovery.
just a little angry this wasn't in the movie. Moana's voice actor would have K I L L E D this.
She was found and pronounced… at the scene
She was already lying in bed
The paramedics said
That her heart gave out…
I mean, that’s basically what they said. They said
A combination of the stress and the heat…
Why she never took her medicine, I’ll never understand
I’d like to think she went out in peace
With pieces of bread crumbs in her hand
Abuela Claudia had simple pleasures
She sang the praises of things we ignore
Glass Coke bottles, bread crumbs, a sky full of stars
She cherished these things, she’d say: “Alabanza.”
Alabanza means to raise this
Thing to God’s face
And to sing, quite literally: “Praise to this.”
When she was here, the path was clear
And she was just here, she was just here…
In the heights feelssssssssss
Maddie Jane Griffin omg finally someone who's mentioned In The Heights instead of Hamilton
I was gonna say, this song reminds me so much of Alabanza and Everything I Know!
Maddie Jane Griffin NOW YOU STOP THAT
OH MY GOD PLEASE
Oh my god, I didn’t think that many people remembered in the heights, I think both Hamilton and In the Heights are excellent. The same level, maybe Hamilton more because even though it has 2 times the songs In the Heights had, it never bores me
I hear rhythm like as "We Know The Way".
0:00~0:34
I need Moana's voice actor to sing this :(
Lena Auli'i Cravalho. YASS i want to hear how if she sang this
So I wish very much
my whole childhood is connected to disney❤
I almost cry! Beautifull!
im actully crying that this isnt in the movie
love love love crying that it's not in the movie
Executives: How many times do we have to tell you? dangit Lin this isn't Hamilton
Wow!!! This is an amazing song and pluse it’s more powerful along with a message that means a lot to her
0:06 "She taught me-" Me: PIANO!!!!!!
Want some feels? The same song, but it's Eliza singing at Angelica's grave. Eliza is confused about her duty to the world around her. She realizes that there's still more left to do. And so she starts her journey as the most integral part of the Schuyler-Hamilton Story
Could you NOT?
This is glorious and it's on repeat right now.
Is no one going to talk about how this song sounds like her grandmother dies?
Rebecca ummmm do you wanna know a spoiler
Nooo!I don't want the Grandma to die!she's awsome!😱
i wont tell ya
Well, was that not predictable? Moana has two parents, but then has only one known grandparent. Disney tries to evoke feeling.
Also, there's a song called Tala's deathbed, so...I'm sorry for your loss.😨😭
have u seen it...........cause
1:49 " if I had time " IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME WILL THEY TELL YOUR STORYYYYYY 😍😭😍😭😍😭😭😭😭
Can they please release the visuals for these cut song
Well, there's a chance the song was cut before visuals were ever made. If they have visuals, I would really love to see them, but I think they probably dont have visuals
AnnaOtherStuff either that, or they’re really rough storyboard sketches
I can't listen to this soundtrack without sobbing and this DEFINITELY doesn't help.
This reminds me of my grandmother. Miss you Grandma. ;(
I'm kind of thankful this song wasn't left in the movie. I lost my grandma and Tala reminded me so much of her that when she died in the movie I almost couldn't take it. This song would have broken me. It's beautiful though!
Ahhhhhh I'm feeling all the emotions
Wow... So precious.
I wish they kept this song in the film it's so beautiful :')
Really wish this was in the movie
That was so good and beyond. I wish I could do that double singing thing.
Wow this is really good. I finally found this looking since the 2d animation footage.
I love this version honestly
Oh my god, this song would have sent me over the edge, holy crap. This is so good.
i love this😭😭
Moana, Frozen, Newsies and Hunchback of Notre Dame are my favorite Disney sountracks ever.
This is beautiful 🥺🥰
sorry, sorry, sorry, I'll throw away my cut onions now.
*throws away onions*
King PufflePuff *gets hit by onions* oh damn it
Get this off TH-cam it's emotionally devastating 😭😭😭
I hope this song gets added in in this ever becomes a Broadway musical some day.
oh my god the feelings 😭
Really Love this song I listen it Everyday
I love this song
love this song
wtf so good. how did they not include this in the movie!!!
Bc the original and the reprise were replaced by How Far I'll Go and How Far I'll Go reprise
1:22 That voice😍😍😍
hopefully in like 10 years when they release it from the disney vault again they will add this scene just like they did in beauty and the beast with when we're human again
This is the original song reprise that Moana was going to sing. It was a demo that Lin worked on. The final product was How Far I'll Go and the subsequent reprise.
Also human again was mostly finished when BATB came out in theaters, they just cut it from the production because it added nothing to the main story line.

The outtakes are always replaced with reprises now? Life's too short was replaced with a reprise, too.
This song was the original 'How Far I'll Go'. This is the reprise of the regular version, just like 'How Far I'll Go' had a reprise.
Letícia Pais what's a reprise?
Little Loomer The same song but sung again when the character has learned something new. The lyrics are slightly different.
TEC1 *Or lost something(one)
except this was already a reprise of another deleted song
Lin's style can definitely be heard from this 😅 I wish the first part of the lyrics were kept and somehow worked into the movie, since it would show even more depth to Moana's relationship with her gramma Tala (as she gave Moana her name)
This sounds like Hamilton...
Nicolette Cannon In fact, the album was written by Lin Manuel, so get ready for the Hamilton vibes :D
SilverBlood0801 I know right
Nicolah Kendall I feel like it really sounds like Hurricane
Hurricane tbh
Ginger Hawke my thoughts exactly
This is one of the best songs I've ever heard that got cut.
Also, it's *so* Hamilton-y. The clearest parallels here:
My father wasn't around / from the tales she told
I wrote my way out of hell / We practiced all the names of everyone who came before me
They have *incredibly similar* styles, if you go back and listen (I'm talking structure and/or rhythm, not content, by the way).
It was cut because it was too generic in its lyrics. Lin-Manuel Miranda wanted to write a song that would feel more personal for Moana's character.
anime fan because it was a different plot. moana knew how to way find
then
this is a great song!
I'm doing my makeup I can't listen to this one right now, I'm tearing up
Abuela rest in peace
THiS IS SO BROADWAY I LOVE IT
I like this version so much more than the reprise in the final movie. Idk, it was just too cheerfull, I sat there crying a little and suddenly Moana is singing a happy tune and takes off on her adventure. Whereas this song contains a feel of sadness while also being inspring.
I love it so much 💕💕💕
Ugh this is like "everything I know" from in the Heights
My thought exactly haha
you don't say
My God, whovians everywhere xD
Aww this is so cute! :')
I few seconds of this song was animated by one of Disney's main animators and it is AMAZING!
okay but this is essentially 'everything i know' lol :p
Eliza Keating It might be the original draft of it.
Emma Phillips ?
Eliza Keating Sometimes composers make a song, then rewrite it so it fits the movie better.
oh, i was talking about how its kinda similar (at least thematically) to a song from another musical lin wrote, idk if that was clear
This was supposed to play after her grandma passed, I would've bowl my eyes out
thank you
This should have made it to the movie. It's very Ron and John thing with the song reprises.
Best song of the movie and it's not in the movie.
This IS beautiful, but it's definitely too long. I think the other one's more inspiring and it doesn't have all these expository lyrics like this one. Still, I'm glad they kept parts from this in the film.
Bridleway Studios This sing was for the original plot as they changed some of the plot this song didn’t fit anymore so they didn’t use it.
"its definitely too long"
the song: *2 minutes and 30 seconds*
i love the music in this song
(in 2:16 - 2:39)
this is so powering, thanks Disney 😊
this really have Lin's songs signature goshh it's so powerful :'')))))
Part of this song has been used for a clip of the "disney moana animation test". Just check, you'll see.
I love that this confirms she was actually named after the sea
That was actually pretty good
