Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.

It's pronounced Old Pultney, the first e is silent. Take it from a Scot who was born in the Malt Whisky Capital of the World, Dufftown. My late father was born in Rothes and Old Pulteney was his favourite Malt Whisky. He worked at Cardhu and Littlemill distilleries in the 1950's and 1960's.
I'm not a stickler for pronunciation but geez Pul-tay-nee hurts my ears. Love the 17 (multiple bottles), and finally got the 21 two months ago. Haven't opened it. Charley, that's a beautiful bottle to give to people who can't pronounce it. LOL Congrats on 10K subscribers that's cray-ay-zee.
We insist on our ability to pronounce things however the hell we want :-) (says the state that pronounces Palacios "puh-lashes")

As someone from Wick (north of Scotland) where this whiskey is from, it very much hurts to hear how they pronounce it!!
Y'all can insist on pronouncing things however y'all want. But I'll insist on my ability to turn to Ralfy's channel to learn proper pronunciation of Scotch brands.
I'm glad you guys liked it so much! This whiskey is near and dear to my heart and is the first scotch I ever fell in love with. My grandpa always had multiple bottles at the house and he turned me onto it years ago. Prob the only time I've ever agreed with Jim Murray's Whiskey of the Year too. It really is amazing and very complex once you get into it. The 17yo is also damn good.
There's actually a cool story my grandpa used to tell about a family member of ours who used to work at the distillery in the late 1800s. He was a sailor on a boat that delivered barley and the distillery always sent them off with a barrel of some their best stuff when they left. He became such a fan that one day he got off the boat and never got back on. As Daniel said, it's the most northern distillery on the mainland and pretty remote, especially back then. So, he stayed in the area, ended up getting a job at Old Pulteney and worked there for close to 30 years until he died. Now that's a man who loved his whisky!

Just like Daniel says, "I wish I had stumbled onto this one sooner." I am enjoying my first bottle of the OP12 and it is a briney green apple Jolly Rancher. This is a very fine scotch for the price point. In Texas 2023, I paid $47 for a gift box containing the bottle and 2 glasses. This is a whisky that I WILL be recommending to friends. Slainte

OP 21 is one of my top favorites. I have 2 bottles, will probably pick up 1-2 more since it is now Discontinued. The 17 is Discontinued as well. We should see a supply through the beginning of 2018 though, from what I read. They are not going away from age statements, so most likely will see other age statement to replace them. Nice review.

I really wanted to try this one after Ralfy gave this one of his recommended beginner whiskys, but I always keep finding other things to try and or collect, and I haven't found my way to this one yet. After this glowing review, I might just pull the whisky trigger and buy a bottle.

I was in Scotland for only two days and tried to taste as much whisky as possible without leaving Edinburgh. Old Pulteney was the best one I tried and it’s still my favorite. On my 21st birthday my friends got together to buy me a glass of the 21 year and it was wonderful. I thought the flavor was similar but it was so smooth.
I'm glad you put our minds at ease with the emergency plans for the whiskey. Priorities. Although I suspect being up on the 7th or whatever floor affords some protection.
Awesome! This Old Pulteney 12 yo is my favorite totally affordable Single Malt. At the (not so far away) New Hampshire liquor store this 12 yo is $36.99 Considering the low price, this bottle is amazing.
Old Pulteney is on my to acquire list. Last night I opened Ledaig 10yr. From Tobermory, the single distillery on the isle of Mull. Now this smokie. And very interesting! At $42 NY ( we spend for our sin ).....I believe I've found a nice everyday peat pour. I'll take it Friday Night to my son's birthday party, to be reviewed by the mooches.....( Joe! Your dad's so cool...he brought scotch!! )
I just bought a bottle of this one today, and i have to say that this one is on my top 10 list and will be one of my all time favourites

Yes!! Old Pulteney 12. This one holds a great place in my heart as it was a gift from my girlfriend's (now wife) granddad. It was a very nice acceptance gift into the family. Always have a bottle on my shelf now for when he comes over. Top bloke!

What I enjoy so much about your reviews is that it's like drinking whiskey with your best friends. Unlike other whiskey review channels where it's all about the nose, the taste, the finish which is fine because they're very informative but to me not that much fun to watch. You two on the other hand make the experience so much more enjoyable, all the banter and shit talking make it feel like I'm sitting there with you guys enjoying a wonderful glass whiskey. Keep up the good work!

I just bought this one, smelled smooth but not too special to be honest. Then I took a sip and wow, this is a very very good whisky. Very sweet flavor! Vanille, butterscotch and lots of amaretto it seems like.
If you guys get a chance to try the Johnnie Walker Explorer's club: the spice road it might be worth it. Haven't had it in forever, and I don't know how hard it is to find. Keep up the great content, dudes!
Opened my newest bottle to play along. This is one I keep around for the unique profile and pricepoint. I get salty bubblegum and a late hint of smoke. The 17yo is good also but 3 times the price so...and the commenter may have been talking about your original toast: May your crazy stay this side of legal and may you return before we have time to miss you. I like that one better anyway.

A favorite go to of mine. Have not tried the 21. But the 12 is a cheaper Scotch in my area. One which I could and have drank daily. Cheers from Canada.

I love these videos, i have watched half of all the videos in the past four days. I love learning about so many variations of whisky, and i would love to see a review of something totally different. Kyro distillery from Finland just this year released their first whisky, Juuro. It seems Finland is very new to producing Whisky, so i would like to see how it is. The only other Finnish Whisky i could find is Teerenpeli whisky at about 2-3 times the price of the Juuro, but they are not 100% rye.
We need to get some Finnish whisky in the vault!

Well I'm glad I got the Old Pulteney 12 year that is 43% ABV at retail price in my area. Seems that they're not restocking it anytime soon.
The hurricane comment was funny because I am currently getting the front of a (expected) 4 day storm front here in Oklahoma. My office went from sunny to dark in under 5 minutes. The video is almost two years old, just a funny coincidence.

By the way, i did some research about sending you stuff from Germany and it is *insertpuloutcorksoundhere* expensiv! You should try to get your hands on a Bottle of Puni Nero, its a Whisky from Italy, a very young Distelery, and there Nero is ~3-4 Years old and for me THE Whisky to go to if you want to show someone that Age is not the thing that the Whisky needs to have in the first place.
It has Plums and some Dark red Fruits, parts of Honny and is just the Balance between Rich and Kind and Komplex and chalenging! it's amazing! After Glenfiddich 18 it is my biggest loved bottle of whisky in my little collection

Recently opened my first Old Pulteney 12, and I can say it probably won't be a go-to for me, nor a favorite. But it's a pretty decent dram, nonetheless. I feel like it's a few ABV points light. If it were 43%, I'd like it a tad more, perhaps. Great value, though. Bought my bottle for 23 EUR.
I think it's a great entry whiskey on a flight where you have Islay/Island whiskies following behind.

I noticed today that Rex had some hair sparkle, but that may have just been dandruff glistening in the sun.
A little bit more on the history of this distillery, my mother's maiden name is Henderson and this distillery was founded by my ancestors :) #freescotchmaybe?. The Henderson's group/clan just went on a trip over to Scotland this month and presented them with a Henderson plaque assuming for their fine service for making fantastic Whisky! Anyway, Daniel, just thought you being more of a history buff might enjoy this info where as Rex.... Well lets be honest, he's a mooch and could care less ;). Keep up the fine work gentlemen!

I have been debating my next bottle. Shamefully, I must admit, I have avoided Old Pulteney 12 because it often sits among similar shelves and prices as some "lower regarded" whiskey. However, I'm now intrigued. I was going to make my next bottle Oban 14, however, Oban 14 is a $92 bottle where I live. I have read forums in which people compare the character of OP 12 to Oban 14. Would you consider these two whiskeys to share similar character in the least?

Ok...found this video (and channel to which I subbed) because I looked up the Scotch on TH-cam. This was the first bottle that cost me more than JW Black. I am afraid of where this may lead. I can't get over how extra this is in comparison.

I was making udon noodles with miso soup last night, I was putting the miso paste in bowl and I tasted a bit and thought that reminds me of a whisky. I think it might have been Talisker 10, it had that seaweedy salty briney thing and the funky Unami taste was not unlike a malt taste. I thought it was a very odd place to have that old factory sense call back to a whisky I had a few months ago.
Terry Dolan, that's interesting. I don't know that I've ever had miso paste, but I'm curious to try it now.
Rex You're bound to have had it, it's a Japanese staple. It's actually makes perfect sense that it should have whisky tasting notes. It's primarily made with fermented soya beans, barley or rice. (Malty, Unami, alcohol funk) with dashi, which is a stock made primarily of bonito which is dried smoked tuna shavings. (Smokey salty briney) and it's served with bits seaweed such as nori or kelp. I think it's particularly the seaweed which reminded me of talisker 10. One of the tasting notes is described like the sensation of standing on a rocky seaweed covered beach which I totally got.
It's was itsu original miso soup I had if you can get your hands on it.
Rex FYI it was a complete coincidence that you also mentioned talisker in the video, I'd already written my comment before I had got to that stage.
Was having a taste of this tonight and after a taste I had a drink of my Guinness Draught. Weirdest thing. Got a taste of those sweet/tart cherry candies. Delicious but I figured it was a fluke. Tried it again for science and it was the same result. Try it.
After sipping on a bottle of Laphroaig and Highland Park as well as Ardmore on and off for the past few months, I think I cant do "friendly" anymore. Especially since I prefer the Laphroaig over the Highland peats.
I bought OP12 today as well as Evan Williams BiB. And while its a great whisky and I love the brine notes in OP 12, Id prefer them to be stronger, more robust. Id rather sip the EW.
So, its 2 days later and Ive barely touched the bottle of EW. Old Pulteney has really grown on me. What a journey.
As a new explorer in the whisky world i got in to whisky just buy admiaring the style of drinking whisky, how its tasted, how it looks and everything! First i ever drank was a cheep grant blend that i thought was kind of nice but i was only 18 so it became a bit overwelming wich led me to drinking it with a few drops of water at first. Then when i became 20 last year(age when you can buy spirits in Sweden) i got myself a mack Mackmyra as my first whisky, swedish as i am and kind of realy loved it, i had tasted both monkeys shoulder, aberlour a'bunadh and the lagavulin 16 and liked them, but now when i bought this bottle(old pulteney 12 released 2018) i just have a hard time wraping my head around what it taste and what is what and leaves me just thinking "wtf is these tastes" because i dont know how oak taste, or what malt taste like.... Could you mabey make a video of the "new" old pulteney or mabey just give me advise on a whisky i shuld try, i realy like walnut notes and faty notes btw! Thanks in advance! :)

Drink this while eating salty food.....it becomes sweet like dessert. Although I prefer a little more peat in my whisky, this is an all around great Scotch for the money.

A lovely friendly scotch whisky. Its perfect
I had to make a toast at a wedding once, but I wasn't asked till right after the ceremony. Naturally I had to BS my way through it. 2 things helped me greatly, one was that I was the 4th and final toast, father of the bride, father of the groom, sister of the bride, and then my dumbass. The other is that the grooms father picked up a bottle of macallan 12 to toast with. I don't remember all I said, but there were people both laughing and crying by the end of it. It either went really well or extremely poorly. I tell myself it was a fantastic speech though...
