I love this scotch. It is delightfully delicate but surprisingly complex. I find that each taste in the dram is different. Usually, the first taste has the most maritime flavor and spice, and the final taste is the sweetest which makes a great end to a drink journey. This is an excellent scotch to give friends who have been scared off of scotch because of the peat flavors, and shows a complete alternative to what scotch can be. Sadly it is moderately difficult to find in the US. There is only one store in my entire state that stocks it. Love this one, totally underrated.

Truly legendary. I personally taste the whiskey, make notes and then come to their videos for evaluating my palate.

I’m 34 years old, a whiskey beginner, and loving the journey so far. Coincidentally Old Puteny was my second whisky. My first was the 9 year Lagavulin; a Smokey, mild to moderately peaty whisky. When I tried the OP 12, I gained some understanding of the depth in variety of single malts. It tasted great. Next I’m opening the JW green label blended malt. I’ve got a feeling I’m going to enjoy this hobby. Any recommendations are more than welcome. Cheers/prost!

I'm a 32 year old whiskey beginner so we're on the same page! How's your journey going now that you're 5 months in? I'm loving the Buffalo Trace bourbon, the Aerstone Sea Cask single malt and the Glenfiddich 12 year single malt :) Oh, and special mention for Monkey Shoulder which I really enjoyed!

I just had a bottle of this recently. It wasn't my favorite, but it didn't last very long either. Very good for the price.

It is a staple in my collection. Great whiskey for the price. Nice notes of Salt, citrus or apricots and caramel.

I agree , it's a great everyday sip. The end of it I get a little of that sea salt, very unique. Cheers from northern indiana usa

Love the nose on it: beautiful sea spray but not overpowering then caramel or some other sweetness creeps in to surprise you. The taste doesn't dissappoint, wonderful long spicy aftertaste.
Bang for the buck it's way up there.

I got some recently to take a chance on something strange. On the nose I get dried mealworms and soy sauce, and to taste it's like very old salted licorice with seaweed crackers. Very strong, pungent, mealy, umami, salty, to the point my senses shout 'you should not be drinking this'. I don't get any freshness or fruitiness other people seem to describe. Did I get a duff bottle?

Got one of this, lot of honey on the nose, sea, salty tast. very easy to dring. smonth. If you take it neat, not as complex flavor, not enough punch, gets better with a few drops of water. interesting to try, but might not buy again.

Do you (or anyone here) know any other whisky of a similar kind as Old Pulteney? This was one of the first whiskys I ever bought, and I have still not found anything quite like it (either on the nose ore the palete). Especially the nose on this is really nice! I know this is only bourbon barells, so another whisky with no sherry cask and low levels of sweetness is what I´m looking for I guess (I have many good sweeter whiskys). Perhaps something like this but with a bit stronger taste? Any tips?

I, too, have never encountered anything remotely similar to the Old Pulteney.
      It’s really amazing!

      Shackleton!
It has the sea spray thingee going on, but the sweetness is more brown sugar than fruity/floral.

The older bottling at 43% far out shone this version.

I bought 12 year old pulteney last month at %43 abv store restocked with new box and lower abv same price
    Anyone know why the difference?

    • @tzsteve33
      @tzsteve33 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

omensix I would say you got the older ( and better) bottling at 43%. They changed to 40% some time ago. And have changed the packaging numerous times.
I like old pulteney. It's a solid whiskey at a good price. I just wish they went back to 43% abv. It really made the difference between a good whiskey and a hum dinger.

Old pulteney 12 is a okay beginner whiskey for its easy drinking attributes. For intermediate to veteran enthusiasts i wouldnt recommend.
Imo the palate was a bit watery and dull. Was expecting a bit more depth, but it is a 33 dollar whiskey. It was pleasant, but not n e thing to write home about.

Everything great in nose, in taste is just ruined by old casks used, that aftertaste bitterness, tannins, absolutely ruins it. It's a pity because the initial taste is wonderful.
