Imagine if the modding scene for 3DS was just as explosive as Generations for PC. We could have gotten a Rush remaster mod or even a fan-made Rush 3 mod similarly to the Unleashed Project or STH06Generations
kinda disappointing that this is the only handheld exclusive stage in the 3ds version. and instead of Sonic adventure1, 2, and sonic colors they should have used stages from Sonic Advance 1, 2, and Sonic Rush Adventure.
Even though I love this game, to this day I still think that they wasted their opportunity to truly make the modern era shine. They are forced to end it with Sonic Colors, as that was the latest game both handheld and console-wise. Fine by me, the modern era should have been set up by either one of the following options: a) Sonic Rush level - Sonic Colors level - Rival Blaze - Rush Adventure boss a) Sonic Rush level - Sonic Rush Adventure level - Rival Blaze - Colors DS boss Tropical Resort is just too fantastic for me to let go though.
Chiming in on having the GG levels represented, I already know I want Aqua Lake from STH 2 GG/SMS and Sunset Park from Triple Trouble. Can you imagine the official remixes for those? Cash Cash had better crack their knuckles. Oh, and Fang the Sniper for Classic era rival, obviously. Criminally underused character with a great design.
I'm sure what he's getting at is that the 3DS version should have been representing "handheld" levels, and not "console" levels, since this is the handheld version, and Sonic has had plenty of adventures in handhelds as he did in consoles. I agree, as I was really hoping for Sky High Zone to be represented, as it carried a lovely gimmick that set it apart from other stages. Its just criminal that they only represent ONE Sonic Rush level from a handheld, when they had a plethora of handheld games to use for this version of Generations. Nine levels from 9 consoles games, ok. They have about equal for the handheld version in order: Sonic 1GG>Sonic 2GG>Triple Trouble>Advance>Advance 2>Advance 3>Rush>Rush Adventure>Colors. It could have worked imo.
I wish Sega let Dimps either make a Wii version of Generations or make the 3DS version have 3D levels, since they did a really good job with Unleashed Wii's Day stages and they just let them make this rushed low-budget stuff instead of taking advantage of their talent. Also, this level isn't as fun as in Rush without the aerial tricks you can do.
+WaxingName actually, there was a Generations port being made for the Wii at the time, but due to the system's limitations, it ended up becoming what we know today as Sonic Colors.
I wish they would bring the Generations 3DS stages to the remaster that will come on Switch and PS5. Even if they kept the same gameplay and camera as Sonic Rush, I would love it.
If you time it just right, you can boost in midair at the loop at the beginning of the level and bounce fly off to the side. Then until your boost runs out, you can just run besides the stage. I've done this only 3 or 4 times
I would love a Sonic Rush 3 with the trick attacks as well as the stomp, those feel like a bread and hecking BUTTER for Sonic! I love how the physics look in Generations 3DS, too, I want a rush style game with them!
In Sonic Rush Water Palace was my absolute favorite stage i used to play it all the time, great memories, maybe i go play Sonic Rush again after Generations
Imagine if the 3DS version of Generations had more of the handheld games: Game Gear Era: Green Hill (Sonic 1) Sleeping Egg (Sonic Chaos) Sunset Park (Sonic Triple Trouble) Rival Battle Fang the Sniper (Sonic Triple Trouble) Boss Big Arms (Sonic 3) GBA Era: Egg Rocket (Advance 1) Music Plant (Advance 2) Chaos Angel (Advance 3) Rival Battle Gemerl (Advance 3) Boss ... I want to say Emerl, but that would be too heartbreaking DS Era: Water Palace (Rush) Haunted Ship (Rush Adventure) Starlight Carnival (Colors) Rival Battle Blaze the Cat Boss Ghost Titan (Rush Adventure)
I would add Under Ground Zone from Sonic 2. And I'd replace Music Plant, Chaos Angel, and Starlight Carnival with Ice Paradise, Cyber Track, and Tropical Resort, respectively. For the Rival Battles, I'd replace Fang with Metal Sonic; not only is he more iconic, but it helps that he's also in Triple Trouble. For the bosses, I'd put the Biolizard for the Advance era, since Adventure 2 Battle and Advance 1 came out on the exact same day, and I'd replace the Ghost Titan with the Egg Dragoon since Unleashed came out In between Rush Adventure and Colors, as well as the fact that Dimps co-developed the PS2 and Wii versions of Unleashed.
Sonic generations is a collection of favorite levels, they didn't pick Mushroom hills was picked because it was easy to make, it was picked because it was a memorable. Less content that other handheld games? Do you know how much time and space it takes to make the lengthy levels required for the speed sonic runs at? I for one am impressed with what they've done with the levels and this claim that they're 'repetitive' is not a common opinion, much less a fact.
I found a bug in this level. If you jump at a certain angle from this loop 1:10 while boosting than you can walk behind the stage and the framerate drops to about 15 frames per second.
+Animaniac190 yes that glitch is easy to get, i still try to figure that out, to get behind the finish ring.. hopefully that can be used in a speedrun strat..
+Animaniac190 yes that glitch is easy to get, i still try to figure that out, to get behind the finish ring.. hopefully that can be used in a speedrun strat..
A Blob I remember I did the glitch by accident and I finished the level in 1:34 since I boosted on the water in the back ground and was hilarious thing for me. I did the glitch like 5 times and it was by luck. I figured out that at you have to boost into the small window square to activate the glitch. Sometimes it works sometimes it's doesn't
Shadow The cat Mine too, as well as my second Sonic game after Heroes. I never finished that game in the decade I've had it since I could never beat all those special stages. Actually, that also applies to Rush as well.
The first 30 seconds of the level is travelling the ONE path with no obstacles. Then a 15 second platforming section, then more boost to win for the rest of the level. This is not work, this is garbage level design. If you think I'm trolling, you are a delusional fanboy. By the way, those seconds are not numbers I made up. Rewatch the video and count how long Melpontro has to actually maneuver around the level. Besides missing the jump at 1:15, he's holding forward for 90% of the level.
wow, that is one awesome remake stage from the DS classic Rush game, I'm suprised they didn't ad other handheld sonic game levels for 3DS generations, like the Sonic Advance series or even Rush Adventure. Still pretty cool, should get this when I get a 3DS my self.
Anyone else agree that they should have remade all the levels of this game from the handheld games, since this is a handheld system, and changing levels from 3D to 2D is a step down
More like both are based on Greece and that's the only similarity. If you consider the levels themselves, you never encounter any hills, dirt paths, or streets in Water Palace, and you never run all over stone temples of any sort in Windmill Isle. The background of Water Palace is similar to Apotos, but that's as close as it gets.
It's not DIMPS' fault. They were given like a year to develop the game while Sonic Team has been doing the console version since Sonic Unleashed. It's similar to the 06' case, though this game wasn't a complete failure like Sonic 06' just a little underwhelming.
0:50 wow that`s not a myth, you can use invuncibility with modern sonic in this version; i never saw that PS:i was refering to pure game not modifying the game so you play modern sonic in classic stages
Man i really wished they added the rank music, specially the for the S rank, without it is'nt as exiting waiting for your Rank like in the Playstation and Xbox versión of this game.
The 3ds version needed more levels like this. I was disappointed how this was the only level to represent the handheld sonic games (and tropical resort if you count the ds version) where there was so many they could of chosen from.
From what I heard, Advance 3 wasn't really popular but yeah.... we could have had levels from advances 1&2 plus some of the GG titles for the Classic Era.
Instead of this, I really thought 3ds users were getting Kingdom Valley as a modern level, replacing Crisis city.... Thank god we threw 06 out the window and put Rush there.
This game is awesome, but it needed Heroes and Rush Adventure or Unleashed, i would've loved to see the Pirate Ship or Cool Edge/Savannah Citadel in Rush style...and Casino Park or Grand Metropolis :3
The levels in generations 3ds were all solid but nothing stood out or was particularly challenging. It’s a step backwards coming off sonic rush and sonic colors ds
I’m glad Sonic Rush has more appreciation without Sonic Rush Modern Sonic would have never existed. Seriously no Boost means no Sonic Colors,Forces,Unleased,And more
Game logic? You guys are seriously questioning that now? Next your going to ask "How does crash bandicoot spin in place so fast? how does suits give mario powers little less allow him to shoot fire underwater? or how does spyro produce fire from his insides?"
Hey! the other levels weren't that bad ;_; Water Palace and Tropical Resort are the stages with best level design, but the other ones were good too, the only stage I can think about that has bad design is Radical Highway, and I mean the modern radical highway, the classic was a bit okay IMO.
I think they should of put in Sky Babylon from Sonuc Rush Adventure instead of this, or as we'll as added it to the game. I know not many people have played the handheld games as much as the console games, but come on, Sky Babylon is like a badass remix of Sky Sanctuary.
Thanks for uploading these. Now I know better than to listen to my inner monologue telling me to buy this game when I get a 3DS. It certainly doesn't look abysmal, just REALLY underwhelming, and stiff, and uninspired and maybe even kind of boring.
Too bad the console version didn't have Casino Night or Mushroom Hill. I actually prefer those levels to Chemical Plant and Sky Sanctuary (Yes. I actually said that concerning the latter.) Hell, I even prefer Emerald Coast over Speed Highway and Tropical Resort over Planet Wisp. Unfortunately, City Escape kinda has a serious advantage over Radical Highway plus I even love the rendition of Seaside Hill. Now Water Palace versus Rooftop Run and Crisis City? Eh. You can have Crisis City any day plus I like the original Rooftop Run better. Water Palace on the other hand was GORGEOUS. Overall, the handheld kinda has the console's number when it comes to the stages.
To make it even worse, a bunch of vortexes spawn in places where you can barely evade them if you haven't played the stage in online before, making the battle completely unfair =D. The vortexes were the main reason of why the online was BARELY okay.
Is this being played on an emulator? It looks too good to be done by a camera pointed at a screen. I'd like to try the 3DS version, it looks a lot like the Sonic Rush series but don't have a 3DS.
Really? I thought they managed to make the 2D gameplay exciting. Full 3D would cost the graphics more than it has already cost them along with the other levels and the amount of them. I don't know about you but I wouldn't like the game to give up more than it already has.
Its just not the same without Sonic yelling "YES! COOL! ALRIGHT!" during every second of the stage...
Mike Anthony Mhm.
Ikr
it was annoying tbh
Yeah, It's like he's in bed with someone.
@Mike Anthony YESS TRUEE XD
Imagine if the modding scene for 3DS was just as explosive as Generations for PC. We could have gotten a Rush remaster mod or even a fan-made Rush 3 mod similarly to the Unleashed Project or STH06Generations
The background looks like Windmill Isle. Finally corrected the grammar with this comment.
Yes, that's actually windmill isle.
That's exactly what I was thinking! XD
It does!
Omg guys holy crap the amount of +1 notifications i'm getting is crazy! Thanks a lot guys even though this comment is old.
why wasn't windmill isle a stage :(
kinda disappointing that this is the only handheld exclusive stage in the 3ds version. and instead of Sonic adventure1, 2, and sonic colors they should have used stages from Sonic Advance 1, 2, and Sonic Rush Adventure.
They should've added a Sonic 3 level. Hydrocity Zone would've been great.
Even though I love this game, to this day I still think that they wasted their opportunity to truly make the modern era shine.
They are forced to end it with Sonic Colors, as that was the latest game both handheld and console-wise. Fine by me, the modern era should have been set up by either one of the following options:

No, those are from consoles.

Modern Sonic doesn't really need invincibility because of his boost
except you can't boost into spikes
They could instead give you a temporary infinite boost
@@bulb9970 They kinda did? If you full the boost to max in this and both Rush games, you can use the Boost indefinitely for a little bit.
Yeah there was also a monitor that maxed out your boost and gave you this effect. The icon was like a meteor.
@@benja-tp1sp in Rush 1 it was a star, in the second game, it was a comet
Sega is like Valve, counting to 3 is too hard for them, I would really like a Sonic Rush 3 for the 3DS it would be pure awesomeness
***** Tried once never again. xD
LOL
FraN_ And the name could even be Sonic Rush 3D, it would be the third game, and go along with the naming theme of the 3DS. I want it.
*Sonic 4 Episode 3*
*& Knuckles*
But it exists and it's called Colours DS
I wish Sega let Dimps either make a Wii version of Generations or make the 3DS version have 3D levels, since they did a really good job with Unleashed Wii's Day stages and they just let them make this rushed low-budget stuff instead of taking advantage of their talent.

+lkprod3 they actually stopped ot for graphical limitations
The 3rd Option And let’s not forget the feature of speeding to the top screen and back to the bottom. I just...love that feature so much.
@@lkprod3 Uh, source?
@The 3rd Option Would you rather listen to YES YEAH COOL YES YES YEAH ALRIGHT COOL OK! every second of the stage instead of the actual music?
I wish they would bring the Generations 3DS stages to the remaster that will come on Switch and PS5.
Even if they kept the same gameplay and camera as Sonic Rush, I would love it.
The closest we'll ever get to a 3DS Sonic Rush game
With all of the updated music and physics, i think they should make a Sonic Rush remake (or release, idc)
If you time it just right, you can boost in midair at the loop at the beginning of the level and bounce fly off to the side. Then until your boost runs out, you can just run besides the stage. I've done this only 3 or 4 times

Boss ... I want to say Emerl, but that would be too heartbreaking
DS Era:
Water Palace (Rush)
Haunted Ship (Rush Adventure)
Starlight Carnival (Colors)
Rival Battle Blaze the Cat
Boss Ghost Titan (Rush Adventure)
man, if there was an emerl boss id actually cry
I would add Under Ground Zone from Sonic 2. And I'd replace Music Plant, Chaos Angel, and Starlight Carnival with Ice Paradise, Cyber Track, and Tropical Resort, respectively.
For the Rival Battles, I'd replace Fang with Metal Sonic; not only is he more iconic, but it helps that he's also in Triple Trouble.

That, homing attack, and stomp. How the fuck do they work
he means that it doesn't make sense with physics.

Exactly why people thought this was Apotos when these screenshots were surfaced.

Water slides, rolercoaster and jumping is just something Sonic Team has to focus on more.
You just described Seaworld
hey theres a glitch here.... hmm.. but i cant remember where it was... i think over by a loop or something...
Why does this place look like a fanmade stage?
Had he said that he'd just have been marked as spam... at least this way it's somewhat amusing.
Why does the background look so much like Windmill Isle from Sonic Unleashed?
watching these runs gives me the asmr chills
This is actually classic water palace because sonic have the boost in sonic rush which is a game from 2005 yep pretty classic

I never realized that the stage is an exact replica of the original one.
$250-$450 3DS capture kit. Google "3DS Capture".
One reason why Dimps chose the level system they did was to follow the Emerald formula they've been using since Advance 1: One Special Stage per Zone.
But Sonic got so many fucked up shit that it's funny to talk about it. Like dem physics.
The bird and sonic we're racing at the end Cx
Water Palace but you can't do tricks.
Soinc they remove trick;-; and 3D and character cutscenes and character boss are just race;-;
It's amazing to me how people can defend garbage.

Easily the best level in the 3DS version. It actually has...*gasp*...level design!
That's mostly because it's a remastered version of a level from a 2005 DS game that's way better than most 2D-centered Sonic stuff today, like Forces.
needs more "yeah!" "ok"
Yeah, no.
This reminds me of Sonic Rush

More like Apotos is basically water palace, without water. Rush came before unleashed.

Ben Clarke yup
the alternate universe where you could play sonic rush for 5 seconds without falling in a pit:
More like both are based on Greece and that's the only similarity.
If you consider the levels themselves, you never encounter any hills, dirt paths, or streets in Water Palace, and you never run all over stone temples of any sort in Windmill Isle. The background of Water Palace is similar to Apotos, but that's as close as it gets.
The problem with Modern Water Palace is that Sonic could just boost over the water, killing the point of WATER Palace.
That was already possible in Sonic Rush. Even if so, it's still really frustrating.
Wait, couldn't he already kinda do that in Sonic Rush?
not really only if it had that wire thing on it
In sonic 3 he just simply ran across the water in hydro city
Sonic could only run on water after a water slide in Sonic Rush

Why does the 3DS version have item boxes and the PC/console doesn't?

Tex Tepig What year did Unleashed came out? Cuz' Rush came out in 2005
Unleashed came out in 2008.
Then how is that possible?

if they put all the 3DS Stages on the PC/Console version, then It will be called Sonic Generations DX...... (not director's cut)
Kenmiester2012 lol it's done now...
Half of the level is the same as Water Palace act 1 (Sonic Rush's original level)
Is this being played on an emulator? It looks too good to be done by a camera pointed at a screen. I'd like to try the 3DS version, it looks a lot like the Sonic Rush series but don't have a 3DS.
Apotos in the background

Really? I thought they managed to make the 2D gameplay exciting.
Full 3D would cost the graphics more than it has already cost them along with the other levels and the amount of them. I don't know about you but I wouldn't like the game to give up more than it already has.
