WHERE DID ISLAM ORIGINATE: MECCA OR PETRA? | THE SACRED CITY | Full DOCUMENTARY

  • Canadian historian Dan Gibson has uncovered startling new archaeological evidence that Mecca was not the original Holy City of Islam. Petra, by contrast with Mecca, was a major trade centre from early on, and fits all the geographical descriptions in the traditional histories.

Innovative thought comes from independent scholars. Their ideas are often laughed at by established inteligentsia who blocked their ideas like they did with heliocentrism, germ theory, plate tectonics.... Evidence is what Dan Brown is presenting. You, too, can refute his arguments. Write your paper.

Don’t you wonder why your faith leaders have been hiding this from you? I recommend including secular sources into one’s historical understanding of their religion, bc they lack the bias religious sources are rigidly defined by; so secular sources are the best ways to learn about which aspects/facts are supported by evidence from science, arts, archaeology, literature/texts, etc.; and what things are simply claimed, & not facts… bc there’s no proof? Actually, there’s alot of contra- indications for things stated in the Quran, & long believed by Muslims re: early Islam… which more reliable & trustworthy, validated, sources disprove or suggest are highly doubtful. Sad to see Islamic leaders ignore issues in Islam history, & more willing to indoctrinate followers than promote critical thinking & thorough comprehension of the text & ancient culture… rather than memorization & rigid judgmental rules for modern life. In a book w/ SO many outrageously false statements about the Bible, Jesus, & Judaism/Christianity (which followers are unaware of), as well as an invented, edited, AND covered-up early history of its own origin/past (which adherents are ALSo unaware of), and violent, hatefilled language… as well as weird, deviant, disgusting sexual practices which were created by Mohammed for his own self interests & the later caliphs changed to hell theirs… as they don’t align with the few ancient texts that describe the daily life of oldest followers of Mohammed- which has lead to horrific implications in today’s world- and ppl think their god is judgmental & suggests they carry out violence & mistreatment of his “chosen” ppl (which is completely irrational) and has subjugated & ruined/tormented lives of many faithful Muslims today… all bc of the corruption of earliest caliphs trying to make a nee state. It’s sick. Ppl should know what they believe & haha e their questions answered… not be tricked & “convinced” or manipulated to believe something is translated to day a barely different word, & the most “easy to understand book in the world” requires SOOO much nuance & knowledge? Really?! NO. ITS BC THE BOOK ISNT CLEAR, nor was it written by Mohammed or anyone in his close circle.
PLEASE Muslims- look at secular sources to confirm answers, & use ur critical thinking Bc Islam doesn’t hint at being truthful, just a man’s attempt to get rich & get his kinks fulfilled. God should be Love & Peace. IMO. Read the New Testament. ❤️

I think this is a pretty strong case as the description of "Mecca" in the Quran was baffling given the state of it now and having no archeological record prior to Islam. "Mecca" is described as being:
-In a Valley, with mountains overlooking the Kaa'ba
-With a stream (not a well, actual running water)
-With fields, trees, fruit, and loam
    -A center of trade
Mecca is a desert wasteland and as shown in this documentary, has no archeological or botanical history. There isn't even a dried out stream bed to show for. Looking over the Qiblas myself, I think this is a pretty strong case for Petra being the original place of worship.

The Bible is the most accurately transmitted book from the ancient world. No other ancient book has as many, as early, or more accurately copied manuscripts. Old Testament >>Old Testament manuscript reliability is based on three factors: their abundance, dating, and accuracy. Most works from antiquity survive on only a handful of manuscripts: only 7 for Plato, 8 for Thucydides, 8 for Herodotus, 10 for Caesar’s Gallic Wars, and 20 for Tacitus. Only the works of Demosthenes and Homer number into the hundreds. Yet even before 1890 a scholar named Giovanni de Rossi published 731 OT manuscripts. Since that time some 10,000 OT manuscripts were found in the Cairo Geniza, and in 1947 the Dead Sea caves at Qumran produced over 600 OT manuscripts. Further, the Dead Sea Scrolls, containing at least fragments of all OT books except Esther, all date from before the end of the first century A.D. and some to the third century B.C. The Nash Papyrus is dated between the second century B.C. and the first century A.D.The manuscripts’ accuracy is known from internal and external evidence. (1) It is well known that Jewish scribal reverence for Scripture led to its careful transmission. (2) Examination of duplicate passages (e.g., Pss 14 and 53) show parallel transmission. (3) The early Greek translation of the OT, the Septuagint, substantially agrees with the Hebrew manuscripts. (4) Comparison of the Samaritan Pentateuch with the same biblical books preserved within the Jewish tradition shows close similarity. (5) The Dead Sea Scrolls provide manuscripts dating a thousand years earlier than most used to establish the Hebrew text. Comparative studies reveal word-for-word identity in 95 percent of the text. Minor variants consist mostly of slips of the pen or spelling. Only 13 small changes were discovered in the entire Dead Sea Scrolls copy of Isaiah, eight of which were known from other-ancient sources. After 1,000 years of copying, there were no changes in meaning and almost no changes in wording! >>New Testament >>> The reliability of the NT is established because the number, date, and accuracy of its manuscripts enable reconstruction of the original text with more precision than any other ancient text. The number of NT manuscripts is overwhelming (almost 5,700 Greek manuscripts) compared with the typical book from antiquity (about 7 to 10 manuscripts; Homer’s Iliad has the most at 643 manuscripts). The NT is simply the best textually supported book from the ancient world. The earliest undisputed NT manuscript is the John Rylands Papyrus, dated between A.D. 117 and 138. Whole books (e.g., those contained in the Bodmer Papyri) are available from around the year 200. And most of the NT, including all the Gospels, is available in the Chester Beatty Papyri manuscripts, dating to about 250.

I just received Dan Gibson's latest book "Let the Stones Speak." It is very well documented. Again I think the preponderance of the archaeology, historical records, the timeline of events and the lack of archeological evidence at Mecca almost conclusively support Dan Gibson's findings. Will it change the minds of many Mohammadans, probably not. But for me I always seek reality above the traditions of men. A good example of this is that the traditional Mt. Sinai is not in the Sinai Peninsula, but is in Median that is today in northwest Saudia Arabia.

Dr Dan Gibson should give evidence from mosques from areas like Madina. The mosques cannot be almost 180 degrees rotated towards Mecca instead of Petra.
Muslims also don't only point towards Kaaba during prayer, Muslims also burry the dead ones while facing the face of the dead one towards Mecca. This will also give evidence about the original Mecca. The oldest graveyards of Madina should be examined and we can easily find the location of original Mecca. Dr. Dan is just creating a controversy, nothing else. Also, we have a lot sights and symbols in Mecca about the old city of Mecca for example the homes of Prophet and his companions and the location where different events took place. Petra doesn't have them except a temple and ruins. Fabricating history, like Dr. Dan claims, on such a large scale won't have been easy if some king wanted to do it.

It is likely that Medina would’ve been the next ‘Mecca’, and then the current day Mecca would’ve been created to fulfill the idea of a holy city as there was no previous civilisation there to counter historic claims. Medina has a lot more historical sources because it was within the incense caravan route, and there were multiple Jewish tribes that lived there before pre-Islam. For whatever reason, whether by political reasons or a change of caravan route due to Petra losing its position to Syria and the resulting earthquakes a couple centuries before Mohammed’s alleged birth, Medina would’ve been an ideal trade centre to migrate to

As a catholic, I was skeptical about Jay Smith, not because he isn't catholic but because there are some christian records in around 637 AD which refers to this 'new prophet' (in bad, of course) among the saraceans and give him the name Muḥammad (A Record Of The Arab Conquest Of Syria, 15-16 AH / 637 CE, folio 1 of BL Add. 14,461). Plus the fact that Jay Smith go into details about the coins where the caliphs mint their images with crosses and conclude they were christians but he doesn't explain why the same caliphs minted coins with their face with zoroastrian symbols at the same time in Iran. There is even a christian source of the 7th century which states that in Syria, local merchants refused to accept coins which didn't bear the cross on them. But Gibson is more neutral and try to be scientific and objective in his approach.

Gibson is ignorant of the Arabic language. The word used in the Quran 2:144 is "Shatra" which means half in English. The Quran tells Muslims to face the half or the side of Mecca. It doesn’t say pray directly or sharp towards Mecca. As long as you don’t face the opposite side of Mecca, you're fine. Of course the closer you’re to the Kaaba the easier it gets, but if you are too far you look at the direction of sun and this can differ according to geography and time of the year.

The crucial point being overlooked, whether intentionally or due to mere oversight, is as follows:
The Quran contains numerous verses shedding light on the origin of the Kaaba. It confirms that the Kaaba was the primordial House of Worship for humanity, built by Ibrahim and Ismail under divine guidance.
"Indeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Bakkah (Makkah), blessed and a guidance for the worlds."
    - Quran, Surah Al Imran
"And [mention, O Muhammad], when We designated for Abraham the site of the House, [saying], 'Do not associate anything with Me and purify My House for those who perform Tawaf and those who stand [in prayer] and those who bow and prostrate.'"
    - Quran, Surah Al-Hajj
"And [mention] when Abraham and Ishmael were raising the foundations of the House, [saying], 'Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed You are the Hearing, the Knowing.'"
    - Quran, Al-Baqarah

Islam originated in Rome the capital of Italy where there were great libraries from which Muhammad learned Greek, Hebrew and Aramiac languages to enable him reading all books to finally produce his Quran. He spent some years to achieve his goals then he came out to the world claiming he is a prophet. Sometimes, Muhammad used the secret weapon of that time "The Mr. Google Research" which helped Muhammad so much to get all his knowledge.
This proves that Makkah was not the place where islam started from.

Gibson claims that all early mosques were built to point to Petra, his archeological evidence. That means either they were all
build by the same people, who used the same bad compass, or they should be guided by God. This fellow rules out the first. For the second possibility, there are two options (apologies for not coming up with the magic 7 options) : (1) it was not God but the Satan, (2) it was God and a miracle. The first possibility can not be, because the Satan would direct them to Mount Olympus, which was located in Sinai in those days, before it was moved to somewhere in Greece. Isaiah did the moving, who is alive and well, doing daily Godly work. That rules out the
Satan. That leaves a miracle from God option as the only possibility. Why would God use Muslims for his miracles though? Could it be that with this miracle God is saying that Mr Gibson is actually the Satan? Didn't Jesus say he stayed with Satan in the desert for 40 days? He was supposed to castigated. My God, Jesus lied as well. Christians!
