      Now that’s a perfect buy can’t go wrong with a Maglite especially at that price I plan to go to Goodwill and see if I can score a nice 3D Maglite for not to much I’m sure I’ll find one if I keep looking its one of the flashlights I’d love to own. Keep that maglite for as long as you can they seem pretty reliable

    The best thing you can do with this light is add the drop-in LED upgrade and replace the plastic-lens for a drop-in mineral glass replacement. Provided you remove/inspect the batteries every few months for leakage it will last you a lifetime. With the LED insert you also will see a massive improvement in battery-life. None of the annoying strobe crap. I have one from 1981 and it is still going strong!

    I vaguely remember my dad's 3 cells incan Maglite could reach and illuminate the cloud. Is that true or my childhood's imagination was too active?

    I like the ML300L better. Cause it's got different modes like standard, camping, law enforcement, and military/ tactical. And it doesn't have that black dot in the middle. Just saying.

    I'd also advise not to use Alkaline batteries as they can leak. You can prevent this by removing them when not in use. But better off getting NiMH Rechargeables. Expensive up front but cheaper in the long run

    • @peteglanton9259
      @peteglanton9259 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can confirm this. I’ve got a 4c mag lite that’s seized closed due to leaked batteries. Use rechargeables if you can, or just keep an eye on the condition of the batteries.

    • @Wyatt_James
      @Wyatt_James ปีที่แล้ว

      Only problem with NiMH batteries is that they're 1.2 volts nominal. It under-runs the bulb and makes them pretty dim.

    I'll tell you what... I've inherited a Maglite from my dad who had it for about 20 years. It doesn't shine brightly and its heavy as sin but having lasted that long it sure as hell says a lot about their build quality. I do want to restore it sometime to its full glory by upgrading to more efficient bits.

    Hi, Dan, I didn't think many people still bought these, due to the cheap Chinese torches you can get on Amazon,!! They blow these out of the water, for a fraction of the price, and are pocket sized too, !! I must have half a dozen scattered around the house and in the car, which are very powerful, and seem to last for ages, on a couple of AA batteries ,!!,,,. Look forward to the follow up vid, if you upgrade this beauty,, cheers pal,,,

      Keep ya receipt pal, I have the Led 3d maglite under the seat in my XC90. I hopefully never have to use it. Seriously I've converted to unilite. Awesome for service breakdowns and installs. Got 3 different unilites they'll blow this torch out the window.
      I was surprised with the led torch my lil bro brought from Asda for a tenner. It's the equivalent to this I guess. Batteries are a killer 🙄. Great stuff as always Daniel 👍

    For not much more money you could have bought the 3D cell 3rd generation led maglite which is far superior. It is far brighter at 625 lumens but also has different settings so you can have it on full which lasts 16 hours. Low which lasts 77 hours and Eco which lasts 117 hours. You can also set it to strobe mode

      @stoopidhaters 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I prefer Incandescents/Halogens as well. But they lack the punch that an LED has and that damn black spot :(. You can get this really bright Incandescent torch that can burn stuff but it costs $200 and will probablydrain your batteries faster than Porn draining my balls. I remember those big yellow torches that take those 6V and they were pretty good.

  • @stoopidhaters
    @stoopidhaters 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another thing MAGLITEs are good for is spotting animals. Say if you are out in the woods or Zoo at night to see animals such as Possums, Owls etc. The Incandescent isn't overly bright so you don't annoy and blind the animals. Also, since it has that black spot on Flood, it's even dimmer. Of course there are LEDs that have low Eco modes but they are probably more expensive.
    I still think you and I kinda got ripped off with our 3 Cell MAGLITEs. Mine cost $70 AUD plus $10 shipping. Also, I'm having more trouble catching the threads when screwing the tail cap on and yes I've lubed up every part with Vaseline. But I still love my MAGLITE, I will be doing light mods for the time being. I may start collecting more Flashlights too.

      Yep, I have the Ml300 in the car as the batterys have a long shelf life (with the tail cap turned to remove the drain charge).
      However for my day ti day carry I have Olight, lumtop. Etc
      Far better and better machined

    To tip, You can get lights with led colour temperatures of 'Neutral white'.
    Best of both worlds.

    • @stoopidhaters
      @stoopidhaters 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LEDs are always a Blue Light. They just put a coating over it to change the Colour Temperature.

  • @stoopidhaters
    @stoopidhaters 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really wanted one, but after seeing this review, I'm having second thoughts. I'm only gonna use it when walking at night, in my room etc. But the LED ones are more expensive and I still don't really trust the reliability of LEDs as the circuits can fail. The LED itself however is fairly durable. Hmmm, I think I will still buy a 3 Cell anyway because you can buy these modules that allow you to upgrade to LED.
    Sorry about the long comment, cheers for the video mate.

    • @PlumbingGy

      They are decent Vinny, not exactly bright but as u said u can upgrade I would recommend one due to it being a security measure especially if walking at night! Thanks mate

      @@PlumbingGy(EDIT) Nevermind, mine is no different to yours, silly me.
      Hey, mine just arrived today and it doesn't have the black spot problem. As long as you fully tighten the beam, it's pretty much non-existent. Maybe your model is older? Also, I noticed some versions of the same model aren't all the same. Mine says it's 45 Lumens, 10hrs, but I saw on a website where a 3 D Cell (Incandescent) was 60 lumens but less hours.

    I am new to flashlights/ torch lights: can someone explain to me why lights like these are used by people compared to other lights from companies like Thrunite, Olight, Nitecore, Emelent, etc. I understand these can be customized but they seemed outdated compared to the example companies I mentioned.

      It a age thing most older people love maglite because they where the best light you could buy for like 20 years. Now a day maglite are ok at best their are so many other brand that make good flashlight.

    • @Park_Place
      @Park_Place 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Maglites are like vintage Caddies. They're old as hell, bulky, horribly inefficient, and vastly inferior to modern technology. They're not the brightest, longest-lasting, or the most compact. That being said, their simplicity allows them to be extremely reliable and they're solidly built. The old models also have great customization- if you buy one with an incandescent bulb, you can switch it to an LED bulb for about $10-20 whereas buying a Maglite with an factory LED bulb does not allow you to swap it.
      Maglites also have brand recognition as being the good ol' cop light that was used back in the 70s-early 2000s.

    Incandescent series is an " old school " and many people worldwide like "warm" light and buy classic maglite..... But maglite produces many led flashlight .. For edc is perfect AA minimaglite - basic led version has approx 100 lumens and intensity 5500cd and approx. 8 hours runtime at the high mode... If we compare with fenix ld22 it has 300 lumens and 3500 cd intensity and 2 hours runtime... But fenix has not focus, and very bright led consume battery too fast, and beam distance is lower than maglite... Fenix, and other manufactures of flashlights nowadays sell only " lumens" forgetting about beam distance and runtime ))

    In all honesty I used to work with these in the airforce. They broke all the time, mag lites are awful for aircraft maintenance. Having it in an engine bay, you shift around a lot. And those mag lites will crack you on the head when they fall out of placement. They can take a beating but damn, the bulb would pop out, the glass would shatter, your head would be split in two. Sometimes the seal in the bulb side would just be plain missing. Well it's good enough for government work 🤣
