NHL'94 World Champion and Guiness World Record holder here. This video is amazing. And anyone claiming '95 was better because of season mode is insane. Sure season mode is great, but I'd rather play a single game of awesome than a whole season of garbage. Fighting in '93 was fun, but ultimately the one-timer, manual goalie, organ music and NHL teams propel '94 to #1 status.
100% As soon as people learned the wrap around cheese, 95 was unplayable for multiplayer. Also the season mode glitch where your team couldn't get over 126 points if I remember correctly. Salty about that one still 25 years later. Had no idea about the community and continued popularity of the game. I still break out NHL 94 to this day too.
@@playnhltwok92 that games is an oddity. It has the NHL license, but doesn't have manual goalie control, and it's based on the 1992-93 season as the Stars are actually the North Stars in MN.
@@fullnelsontecmo That's because the game was completely based on the 92/93 season, schedule and all. All different versions of NHL94 are different. SNES and genesis are different aswell.
NHLPA 93 was outstanding and great introduction to NHL 94. I had both games years ago, and I was totally addicted. I didn’t follow hockey at the time, I bought NHLPA 93 and learned the rules and players names with abilities and I was hooked. Madden was my go to until I bought NHLPA 93 and I put Madden to the side for quite awhile. Awesome memories!
Not sure if you have to kill because there are updated rosters through Emulators. Maybe even a real cartridge? I know Tecmo Super Bowl fans will ship real updated cartridges with updated rosters.
@@Wes_Snipes AH, I guess I'm looking for something with ease of access, like in an Xbox store or something like that. Still, I love the game enough that I will definitely check it out. Thanks!
I think NHL95 needs some credit here too. That was when you could trade and create players. That was groundbreaking for me to be able to play as myself on the game.
So the NHL wouldn't Licence the game because of " the fighting" for 93 but the year before NHL HOCKEY there was fighting and they did Licence it so.. I believe it wasn't the fighting but BLOOD that was the issue.. If they took out the blood it would have been fine I believe.. On a side note: in the Swingers movie they call the game their playing NHL 94 but it was clearly NHL 93
Swingers took some comedic license - they say you can make Gretzky's head bleed (93, shown in the movie) but also that fighting was removed (94). I got the same impression, that it was the blood that was the problem with 93, but maybe we're missing something from the story, because the solution seems too simple for them not to have settled on. Too bad, would have made the best even better.
I played a lot of 94 and 96, but I always thought 96 was the better game, more polished, faster and players looked better, also 96 had voices. Any reason why 94 is considered to be better by almost everybody?
Did you ever play 96 against other people? I think the reason 94 has such a following is because it has the most fun 1vs1 (and 2vs2) gameplay. It didn't have season mode, either, so the single-player replayability is not as good as the later games that have seasons, trades, etc.
Makes sense. Looking at it another way, though, NHL'94 is the culmination of what began in 91. It was the final game using that original engine. They scrapped it and made a new engine from scratch in 95 (one that worked well on both Sega and SNES). (SNES's '94 was a one-off engine that was also quite good)

The PC version of NHL'94 labeled just NHL Hockey has season mode. ;)

The Sega CD version sounds so crisp.

Quebec, Calgary, and Boston were my teams....good times
Great game -- played it incessantly for a couple years. Haven't been into a video game since.
I spent so many hours playing 94 with buddies back in the day.
Nostalgic and timeless
3 greatest home console sports games of all time. NHL 94', Tecmo Super Bowl, and NFL 2K5....That's the list. Book it!
yep I always remember asking for the current year of NHL game for Christmas
Roenick will always be the GOAt, but I LOVED playing with Bure, Mogilny, and Selanne. I would kill to have an updated version of this.

With input from UMaine legend Shawn Walsh, Maine pride all around.
Played as the Redwings All day! Federov! Yzerman best game hands down
Lemieux, Jagr, Kevin Stevens. Come at me bro.

Loved creating players, trading, and simming seasons in 95! Gotta say that the on-ice gameplay of 95 was a step backwards though.
Jesse would be proud
The two that meant the most to me were EA 2006 and EA 2003 for the PlayStation 2. Gotta love that soundtrack from 06
What's ''EA 2006 and EA 2003''?
This needed to be 10 minutes longer! Is there an extended or director's cut!?!?
I think this is a trailer for a documentary coming out on TSN.
@@kevinoaks509 I saw a 1 minute trailer then I saw this so...if this is also a trailer then Im confused.
Look for "Pixelated Heroes", a 70 minute documentary about the game
This was it. And it was glorious!
NHL 94 OHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHH
I love nhl
Waves EGaming 😍😍
Buffalo Chicago Pittsburgh and the rangers were the teams to use...Detroit and Boston were also power houses
so good
NHL 94 yyyeeeaahhhh
5:34 holy crap is that Skooch
The only thing that was missing was fighting
If you dont use manual goalie mode you aint ever going to win a big game. Manual mode goalie technique is a fine art!
100%
TSN
i respect the arcade feeling and innovations with NHL 94, but for me nothing will ever top NHL 99
Blades of steel
Best thing ever was nhl 92 they had highlights from other games during playoffs. I wish they would of kept that
Blades of Steel for sure
If it just had fighting like 93, it would have been even better
I Love 94. But I personally preferred NHL 96.
Jesse liked that
Blades of Steel for NES
lateral movement..east to west is the key
NHL 2004 on PC is the GOAT. you can play 5v5 LAN or p2p
NHL94 for the SNES had a better, 4-button control layout. And the PC version, NHL95 was a far better experience. I liked them both tho.
What do you think of the NHL 20 gameplay

I actually agree. Had shootouts too, not sure is '94 did. That's what we played the most as we were drunks.
I've always preferred 95 myself
94 is the classic game, but 95 added the 2v2 option on Genesis which was a lot more fun.
@@JBradMurray 94 has 2v2. People still play it online, it's amazing!
Him: I don't think it'll ever be matched again
Me: Melee lul
Best hockey game of all time was Blades of Steel.
100% agreed
WG Hockey along with Hockey league simulator was the GOAT
Where are my NES Ice Hockey fans at?
Personally I think 91 is the best because there wouldn't be a 94 without it. It laid out all the groundwork and then some.

Who wants to play team deathmatch with me, and kavi ? Rocky bought cod but he only plays gta.
Hi
Theres no fighting in 94? Fuck that. Don't the later 16bit ones have fighting? Like 97?
Yup, 96 had it, not sure about 95..
Still prefer Wayne Gretzky’s 3D hockey
