I think it would be fun to see the same project with clear polyurethane instead of colored. That way you could see the depth of the matches.... Thank you for sharing.
Okay, not a woodturner here, but I have some issues with this video compared to others I've seen. I'm not saying I have any skill or personal knowledge, but I do have some issues to raise, compared to other videos I have seen. 1. He doesn't know how much epoxy to use and ends up using multiple batches, potentially leading to color mismatch and structural issues. 2. The epoxy is not cured under vacuum to outgas the bubbles and the bowl has glaring bubble and pitting issues in the end. 3. It looks like the screws are inserted into wood that is part of the final product. If so, you got holes in your bowl. 4. The technique is erratic and choppy. Rather than a smooth bevel technique anchored to the body, making clean smooth surfaces, he punches at the piece, making ripples and irregularities along the way. In the end, he also uses a wide chisel to try to make lines, albeit unsuccessfully. 5. The last attempt to smooth the ripples from the piece is with sandpaper. He would need a much rougher grit and sandpaper should be adjusting the feel of the surface, not large shape issues. 6. He doesn't show the removal of the mount, which would likely show the holes in the piece. 7. Why is he using a spray for a finish? A rag and a proper treatment would get a much more even application. 8. This is more subjective than technical, but even if the piece were executed well, it just looks like he threw some crap in a weird colored epoxy. I don't see any artistry, it's just not pleasing to look at. 9. I know the creator is proud of their creation, but 2 solid minutes of looking at a bowl at the end is too much. Considering the lack of techniques used, I think this video could easily have been sped up, maybe down to 10 minutes or less, with 30 seconds of the finished product. While I think there is value in showing the journey and improvement of an amateur, this video is not presented in that manner. As far as I can tell, this video should not be used as an educational model. I hope this creator will continue to learn the craft and maybe could adjust viewers' expectations to the lower level of skill, possibly with some narrative of their journey over the relatively silent video. Even text on the screen would work. I'm sorry my comments are so negative, but I believe honest feedback is the only way to learn, and I wouldn't waste my time here if I didn't think there was potential in the creator to build from. Best of luck in your future projects and videos!
It's hard to guess how much epoxy to use, You can pour multiple layers when wet like he did and they will blend into each other. while a pressure pot is not always necessary it certainly is when pouring something like this the wood block he screwed into is called a sacrificial block. The screws wouldn't have touched his final piece even if he kept some of it his carbide tool is very dull and you are correct about his technique. as far as the sanding, better technique, less sanding. The wide chisel as you called it smooths out those lines. as far as the sanding and finish, many do this albeit they sand much farther before then. I prefer wet sanding and polish.
Comical the one who says they have no experience is the most critical. Not artistic….. that’s crazy. What is art? Is art not subjective? I think the Mona Lisa sucks but many would disagree. This video sparks interest to me, who does turn and am always looking for ideas.
I’m not seeing the artistic ambiance nor can I even find an artistic appreciation in this piece. But you don’t know until you try sometimes. Not every project I do or idea I have always workout.
Negative comments here - ignore them. It is a fun and quirky item. And for those complaining about the title TH-cam used, it only takes a moment to realise it is wrong so don't watch it. Move on.
Why does TH-cam promote all these lies and false info? If it's not untrue titles it's wildly wrong thumbnails. And people just let it continue? They will continue and even grow worse if we don't speak up. Stop perpetuating the lies!
That's actually how scammers fish people. They check to see if they will fall for their mistakes and stay on the line. If they stay on the line then it's a real fish and they keep going after them. They are studying people and their behaviors..
A bowl placed upside down in another bowl would give you the hollowed out bowl shape without all of the wasteful epoxy powder and potential fire occurrence (it only takes a spark). Hope he wears a mask. That powder can't be healthy to breathe.
Not impressed, too much resin being used these days, number one. Two, the entire concept doesn't work at all, the colour, shape and overall look for me was just a waste of electric. But obviously this is only my opinion, sorry mate it's just the way I feel about it
I don't like the way he puts his hands over the tool rest and into the danger areas. Taking your time and putting the rest in the correct position would eliminate the need for that and wearing gloves is a good way to lose your hand or fingers or both all it takes is for the glove to catch the work and rip there goes your fingers I guess if he didn't place them over the tool rest and let the tool cut instead that might not be such an issue wearing gloves but it seems risky
1. poor video editing and style 2. matches unburned seems like a fire hazard 3. worrying lathe technique 4. pattern of matches isn't well distributed, making the piece unattractive overall, 3/10. by all means, try this kind of project, but maybe next time don't post it on TH-cam, and then call it 'amazing'
This is a poisonous piece since the match stick contains chemicals. Instead he can use toothpicks. And you don't need to use so much glue and matchsticks if you are going to shave off so much. You need it at the edges only. This is overhyped..and it is stupid.
I turn and am always trying new ideas. This is unique. Using this idea would make neat candle holder, rolling tray for rolling cannabis or an ashtray.
Que trabalho maravilhoso!!? O senhor está de parabéns!!! Uma verdadeira obra de arte. Onde encontramos esses produtos belíssimos.
I don't know why people are so negative. Those colors go together quite well. Depending on size would make an unique fruit bowl.
I think it would be fun to see the same project with clear polyurethane instead of colored. That way you could see the depth of the matches.... Thank you for sharing.
👏 AMAZING 👏 ~ BRAVOO ....
este hombre es un artista!!! 🥉🏆🇪🇦
Wow Amazing
Caramba
Espetacular
Um mais lindo q o outro
They weren't burnt were they? Would have gone off like a bomb! 🔥😊
Amazing
Lindo, muito lindo
Clickbait. Nothing was burned.
Burnt matches before the resin would have added interest to the piece 🤗
Cool! Now make one where the matches are more purposely arranged. Like alternating patterns in allignment.
Very beautiful, don't be bored ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hope less😢
Are they really burnt?
No matches were harmed in the making of this video
Muy chulo ,me encanta ,i es original i diferente 15:15
Did you ever think of making one with straw?
Wearing gloves while operating a lathe? Not too smart
I wear a well fitted finger-less glove. As long as the glove can't catch on anything, it's fine.
I like the project brother. I think the title serves it well. Good job. I’d buy one and put it in the middle of the table with fruit or anything
Can it be used as a ash tray
This bowl looks like a fire hazard 🤓
👍👍👍
I'll buy one ~ !
Pretty cool Dude ~ !
Imagine if someone gave this to you as a gift at Christmas or something…You’d be so pissed off.
Absent mind professor.
Incredible.
🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏
One of the funnier project 😶😶
Where the burnt matches it says of the matches were burnt then this was done it would look cool
Top
Big Zero !!!
Proud of the who can dare liking his own criticism 😅
Beautiful & strange, I'd be thrilled to have this

@@3406BCAT Thank you for your thoughtful response. It's helpful to hear some perspectives from someone with more expertise, both aligned and opposing.
Dude, relax. You need a hobby, seriously.

I’m not seeing the artistic ambiance nor can I even find an artistic appreciation in this piece. But you don’t know until you try sometimes. Not every project I do or idea I have always workout.
What is so amazing??????
I am wondering if I am dumb or the video
Don't worry......it's you

It's run by a bunch of pigs who promote dumb stuff, covering the real and good stuff. In short, they serve the devil😕
That's actually how scammers fish people. They check to see if they will fall for their mistakes and stay on the line. If they stay on the line then it's a real fish and they keep going after them. They are studying people and their behaviors..
@JohnnaAcuff But you can't get blood from a turnip. If you don't have money and can't give money, what good does it do for the "fishers"?
Dont put in microwave...its flammable
this made me dumber, and I can’t afford that. I’m already too close to the threshold.
Interessante seu pensamento !

Quem. Ama. Agente. Não. Dorme. E. Meu. Deus. Maldade. Volta. Pra. Quem. Merece. 55anos. Abençoada. Por. Meu. Deus. Tiamo. Deus
The screws sounded like farts hehehehe
I'm glad I'm not the only one. I immediately said, "He didn't even excuse himself." 😂

No burned matches... Clickbait
WDF is this ???
Was waiting for him to take the matchsticks out after he poured them in ffs.
Cut the background noise
They're not burned matches though? 🤷
And can become a fire hazard 🎉
Remember, be respectful and follow community guidelines. (Joke)
Why?
Think a clear resin would have had a much more interesting effect
Or accha ho sakta tha.
Wouldn’t it set the matching on fire when they are striped with the craving tools
I don't like the way he puts his hands over the tool rest and into the danger areas.
Are you kidding me I just wasted my time in thought for sure it was going to be a cool burning candle for outdoors! That’s just useless
I won't put anything in this .... Keep it away from fire
What was the lie?
That is not wood turning - that is like turning epoxy and perhaps shows how bored you are with wood!
1. poor video editing and style
2. matches unburned seems like a fire hazard
3. worrying lathe technique
4. pattern of matches isn't well distributed, making the piece unattractive
overall, 3/10. by all means, try this kind of project, but maybe next time don't post it on TH-cam, and then call it 'amazing'
Just boring, even I watch 2x speeds and skip big part ... There is easy way to achieve same results
Not at all an amazing work
Just waste of time.instead of match boxes they may use other matriels.making batch boxes isn't an easy joke!
This is a poisonous piece since the match stick contains chemicals.

This is overhyped..and it is stupid.
I don't think that was worth all the bother,It didn't look like anything special🤔
Nah, sick of resin
Disgusting, serves no purpose, just wasting the resources.
So where's the (BURNED) matches?!
I personally don't like the finished piece. Its alot of work for something that basically looks awful. Sorry. 🙁
maybe with black color it well be better
MEHHH
Not liking that at all.
No use labouries time waste
vraiment pas beau
Why match sticks ? Crazy and idiotic !
True lies
Waste of time 😭
Time waste.
This looks awful
Malo žešča glupost😂
Mmm no M M M m
Lol
That looks like shite.
Does his wife know he’s using her apron ?
