So far I've seen you play a killer LP and a vintage sunburst strat and now this black one. You have some nice guitars, I also try to collect the 60s spec strats.
I've been dining out on your Greasy Fingers #4 lick (and other licks) for the past decade - whenever a mixolydian moment comes around. You outline easily understandable roadmap in this course.
OH Man....just watching you and your band jam at the end......It gave me the Beck & Knopfler vibe with a heavy dose of "Brothers in Arms!" absolutely loved it!
I very recently found the epiphany that comes from triads & co-relating them to keys/scales and can say it's the first leap I've had in my playing in ages. Very much a "Oh that's what I've been trying to do". Also, with regards to the how to resolve/end on this loop, my inclination (right or wrong) is hit the V chord/triad for a faux power chord like ear grab.
Jeff, that cracked me up at the minute and a half mark, I had to pause to gather myself. Great session; thank you for the bonus stuff at the end. Merry Christmas to you and yours..
Thanks for the wee lesson your graft a and sharing. I've got a bug up my arse the now about views numbers and thanks thumbs-up numbers. 👍👍👍Respect to you mate
I've been doing something similar from the start due to learning guitar through the Van Epps method (not recommend BTW). I am excited that more people and instructors like yourself are teaching this.
Thanks Jeff! I appreciate your teaching style. I’ve learned much on the few episodes I’ve watched. You explain things I’m hearing sound good but I don’t understand where to go. Helps tremendously!
Incredible playing at the end Jeff! Sounded great. Really felt like it was coming from the soul, dialed in. Would love to see more footage with the band. Great lesson as always. Thank you!
Been watching a gospel guy lately, and he uses "G Am G Am G Am" up & down the neck over this type of groove and it works great also! So if G is the "1"... then the Am is the 2m. If you look at it like G is the V, then Am is the vi.
Once again The Most Dangerous Man in Music comes thru. This and using secondary dom6inate chords has really expanded my rythm playing Thank Jeff ( is that your new Stratvin the jam section its a real looker and the tone is magic)
Hi Jeff, I love your lessons! About the course: is it theory and basics mostly (shapes, notes, etc.) or more on different concepts and appying them? Thank you!
Thanks! The course is pretty nuts and bolts of working though the C F G triads and all the inversions on 3 adjacent string sets. Upcoming courses will take the stuff further but this one is about learning them. Hope that helps!
@@JeffMcErlain Yes that helps a lot, thank you. I already know major triads on every string set but making music out of them is like black magic;) If you release a course on that - I'm in:)
@@JeffMcErlain ahahaha!! I bought your course about Diminished Scales on TrueFire. You are a great teacher, you explained perfectly everything. I really appreciate the trick you suggest to undestand when starting the lick on the off beat. Thanks a lot
I love that you mentioned The Rover. Thats my absolute favorite song. Could you ever show us how to play it? There arent many lessons on youtube for it.
Great tip -- and boy was I not prepared for that Toast of London clip!
Best show.

It probably isn't at all , but I'm hearing "hot blooded" by Foreigner. Great lesson, Jeff!
Yup. That’s totally it!
The lesson as set out in the title was lovely. The lesson in the live clip contained even more information.
Bravo, maestro!
Thank you very much.
Great video and love the bit with the band, really very nice indeed.
Thanks!!!
Great lesson! One of my "triadic heroes" is Mike Post he used them so well in all of those 80's tv show themes, Hill Street Blues, etc.
Thanks John!
Larry Carlton takes a nice solo on the hill street blues song.
Your videos are always awesome !
Thank you Allen!
So true Jeff. Great for soloing too as you know where your chord tones are

This was really useful; this is the kind of progression I want to make with my guitar playing. Much appreciated.
That’s great to hear! Thank you for letting me know, I appreciate it!
Loving your new Strat. The big headstock has always been my object of longing , because Hendrix.
Thanks. Yeah the Jimi thing is a big part of it, and Yngwie!
You can hear this used in Steely Dan reelin in the years. Same thing but it’s G-A and solo in A mixolydian. Awesome stuff Jeff
Yes! It’s all over the place!! Especially once you know what it is!

Soo tasteful!! Love your playing Jeff!
Thank you Randy!!
what a fantastic lesson . thank you so much !

Very cool.

Winner: Best guitar instructional video ever to feature Steven Toast.
😂
Hey what model strat is that? Love the rosewood/big headstock! Looks like nice dark Brazilian too
It’s a 2016 Michael Landau 1968 reissue. Not Brazilian but a nice dark Indian board.
G, C and F only happen in the key of C, right? And G mixolydian is the 5th mode of C? So you play in the key of C, but starting on the G note
You got it!
Do you still have the Tuttle stratocaster?
Yup!
Great lesson although I don't agree the G7 strum thing sounds bad to me lol
😂
That first lick sounded like something EVH would have made up. 👍🏻
Running With the Devil!
C-F-G triads played with that rhythm sounds kinda like... "Celebrate good times, c'mon"!!! 😃😃
Yup!! Now I need to go to a wedding!
