    Nudies were also my first pair back in 03 besides Levi’s and I’ve been through a lot of pairs and a lot of different companies since then. I liked the uniqlos for their pricing and cut when I first found them in 15? And have always had a fresh new pair in the closet in case I need them. The pricing is unbeatable considering the quality and I’d opt for these over the gaps offerings in the lower price points myself.

    Thorough analysis of a good value in denim. Like many others, this was my gateway into raw denim. I still think they are very good "entry level" jeans. As you said, they lack some of the fine details that a more prestige brand would offer: rivets, nice pocket bags, embossed iron buttons, etc... But at that price, you can't beat them.

    • @CeeAreDee

      Exactly. It’s an incredible price for very good jeans. And a very accessible gateway. More than Edwin or nudie.

    I buy a pair every two years or so. They are so legit and fade perfectly and the stretch is incredibly comfortable. They were my gateway drug into the good stuff, but I always keep these in the rotation. In a pinch, I can get a new pair for a nice event for the brand new dark look and then enjoy breaking them in all season again. Most importantly, they FIT better than any expensive pair I have ever tried.

    These have pretty much become my favourite jeans and I have some quite expensive Atelier La Durances, Carhartt's and Edwins etc.
    I'm very tall (202cm) and the 36 length of these (off the website) are the longest. I can double cuff them and show no ankle.
    The denim is starting to honeycomb and taking form nicely now aswell.
    They're amazing.

    I picked up a pair of Uniqlo selvedge jeans for $40 a couple of weeks ago and very impressed. They are less than half the price of Unbranded (which was my go to before) fit better and seem to have more sturdy construction (pockets don’t rip!). The material is nice but not quite what you’ll find on $150+ jeans. These are going to be my new daily wear though.
    I would love to see them create a more expensive version with thicker denim.

    In the store near me, they do free alterations on all trousers, so you buy longer and then they hem them to the length you want for free (gets rid of the pre crease). So a tailored pair of selvedge jeans for under £40...it's a bargain.

    The slim fit ones fit me so well as I am very thin. My Studio D’Artisans don’t fit me nearly as well. The Uniqlo ones also start to look a bit waxy after you don’t wash them for a while lol which is really cool and makes them look like old Dior Hedi Slimane jeans.

I have 15-20 other denim, 3sixteen, edwins, nudies, unbranded, samurai etc, many are heavier but as for comfort and fit uniqlos are great. They faded beautifully and had zero quality problems. Arguably one doesnt need any other expensive brands unless you want heavier stuff.

    I ordered a pair of Uniqlo slim stretch selvage w/ hemming. Mine came w/ rivets on the front pockets though. I was surprised how great they were! I only have experience w, $60 Levi’s, Wranglers, Everlane, and Naked & Famous stretch 12oz. The Uniqlo is by far the best fit and best hand of the jeans that I have tried. I’m done exploring $160 brands! Available in indigo and black, I’d love if they were available in light wash, and grey. Maybe the indigo and black will fade to light wash and grey over the course of a few yrs, IDK. A lot of Uniqlo is not that great IMO but these jeans, OCBD’s, Linen shirts, merino wool, and socks and heavy weight Tees are excellent basics that don’t disappoint.

    • @CeeAreDee

    I have own a pair Uniqlo selvedge jeans since 2018 and still have them and just have some points to the jeans.
    1.I know that the normal pair of Uniqlo selvedge denim comes with rivets on them
    2. If you live in a city with a Uniqlo store you can get your jeans altered for free on all jeans over 20€ also if you have brought them online
    3. Uniqlo works with Kaihara denim to make all there selvedge jeans
    4. Value for money the Uniqlo selvedge jeans is the best buy I have had mine for 4 year and there still hold up

    I’ve beat the piss out of my Uniqlo selvedge and the only thing that ever failed was one rivet popped on the pocket but I collected both pieces slipped them back together and hammered it flat and it’s been holding ever since! I wore them as daily drivers in the trades

    When Uniqlo first arrived in UK they had their own green line selvage and sizes like 42x30 back in the 90’s. That was when Interstate were doing Japanese Edwin and Denime for £60 or something. The craziest Uniqlo were from the 00’s when they did Chinese denim but made in Japan for £50 and they looked like they were cut by lasers and sewn by robots

    My first Selvedge jeans were Uniqlo Kaihara regular cut. It's been 6 months, and with ±40 wears I still haven't noticed any fading, although they lose plenty of color. They turned my cream Yeezys bright baby blue, so I'm really impatient to wash them, but I wanna get at least 100 wears before my first 30° tumble wash with baking soda and white vinegar only. I really like these, and I can't wait for that 15% shrink from the first wash.

    • @CeeAreDee
      @CeeAreDee  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      After a 100 wear days I’d really use some detergent. You want to get that grime out of them. The vinegar and the baking soda will help with the smell but not really clean the Jean. Also. I’m pretty sure baking soda is alkaline and vinegar is acid so they with neutralise one another.

    • @PocketUau
      @PocketUau ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CeeAreDee after every wear I pull them inside-out and brush them down with a stiff bristle brush. Once that's done I inspect for stains real quick and if they don't smell or look dirty, they're good to go. I also usually wear them for 4-5 hours at most, when it's nighttime usually since during the day it's way too hot for long pants, especially dark colors. The white vinegar will be sprayed on the inside for odor, and then rinsed out in the washer using only baking soda. I'm experimenting hehehe.
      I also don't want drastic fading, just good fades, so the vinegar will soften the fabric and set the color

Now being a bit of trashed up pair, I still enjoy them fucking around in the house🙂 Now Im into more repro-brands like TCB and Sugar Cane, because I lift and need that thigh-space , and that Evisu-jacket is so loud but I love it! 😃

    I think these are probably the best bang for your buck but I would still buy a pair of Pallet life Story, Orslow or endsandmeans because I know the source and the story behind the brand and it’s values. Some may say japan also hasn’t got the best working conditions but from sb who lived in Japan and has partly a Japanese family I want to clarify sth: The number of suicides are mainly based on the work of traditional salary man and not on employees from factories that are way out of the hustling metropol cities. Usually the artisanal mindset and approach are paired with better working conditions and providing people with jobs that don’t live for example in Tokyo. Of course they might be a lot of denim brands made in japan that are semi greenwashing but many of them actually do what they preach and love what they’re doing. It does not make any sense to generalize one or the other. If you buy the story and are looking for an ethical option do your research and buy the one you like. If you don’t care don’t blame the other side of being snobby or else same goes vice versa. If you like Uniqlo and the quality of these that’s fine and enjoy them as long as you can. Not to mention that not everbody is able to spend 300+ euros for quality Jeans these are a good alternative and I totally understand both sides :)

    Their old selvedge was even better, used to be 100% cotton. Plus you could get it in a skinny cut as well. These newer ones with stretch are not bad either as they age nicely, but there’s something about a nice pair of 100% cotton jeans.

    Nice review. However this pair of jeans you have in the video is from the U collection designed by Christopher Lemaire, hence the contemporary fit and rivet-less design. They also have another basic line selvedge jeans which is basically a replicate of the 501 1947 with the straight-and-a-bit-slim fit, also with rivets and other details.

    The problem with Uniqlo as far as I’m concerned is that the cut is way too comtemporary. Unless they start making jeans inspired by the pre-60s era, I’m sticking to TCB and the rest.

    So odd they don’t have rivets. Here in the UK all the Uniqlo Selvedge denim has rivets including hidden rivets on the rear pockets. They’re £39.90 over here too including tax which is about €45 so no premium for the rivets.

    I got a pair of their Selvedge Slim fit jeans. They are quite incredible, although the slim fit is not very slim. I wish they would make a skinny fit selvedge. I got size 34 and I am 6'2", 185. Amazing jeans. I also just got a pair of their ultra stretch skinny fit jeans and they are the most unbelievable comfortable jeans I've ever had. I can't wait to get some nice fades and whiskering/stacking on the selvedge pair. Overall, as a new customer, I am more than pleased....
    I take that back. They absolutely turn to slim fit after washing them or shrinking them up to fit. Mine are much slimmer than when they were new.

    Years ago I would pickup up a pair of expensive ($200-$400) raw denim jeans every time I went to Japan. Then, I discovered Uniglo, which were a fraction of the cost. While they didn't last nearly as long, I was quite happy with them for a while. But, last time I went to Uniglo it appeared they no longer carry the same quality jean. The denim now seems lower weight and has spandex or something in it to make it "stretchy". I don't know why they did this. I hate "stretch" denim.
