1996 WC will be remembered for Ajay Jadeja's batting against Waqar's bowling - 2 overs for 40 runs. against a reversing old ball, at 150 kms an hr. without the modern heavy bats. Damage could've been worse.. he got out caught right on the ropes. Waqar will never forget that bashing!
His spell till the last 2 overs was sensational 8 overs 1/23. The ball was changed due to going out of shape, there was no reverse swing and Jadeja played a blinder! Not to mention, Kumble got a few boundaries away as well. It was India's day for sure.

Amir had never captained before, when he got chance it was quarter final against India . He just missed a trick when he gave Waqar 6 overs straight at end. When Waqar was tiring in his last 2 overs Jadeja took advantage. Amir just needed to give Waqar 2 overs in middle of innings

" He truly was the enemy of the middle stumps, those endless Yorkers and toe crushers that annihilated batsmen, at the time when waqar was the most feared bowler in the world, it's true jadeja hit all over in that world cup series for the first time, it was a bit like the Mike Tyson vs buster Douglas when Mike suffered his first big loss, same with waqar he suffered his first big loss to jadeja, but waqar never quits he always comes back stronger. But it didn't change the fact! He still remained a threat through out his career. His later years he lost his pace but he reinvented his self and proved his critics wrong, waqar was dropped many times with injuries and controversies against him, but he overcame the odds and come back stronger, once again proved his critics wrong. I have never seen a player with so much passion and charisma, he was an icon he inspired a generation of fast bowlers, there will never be another like him trust me on that.
Waqa was better than washim. For this reason washim always tried to destroy waqar's career ,and finally succeeded to do that in colaboration with Injamum -ul-haq. Inji made only 27runs in his six innings! Can you beleve ? But Inji was made captain and Waqar was made scapegoat by the corrupt P C B though Waqar toot more wickets than any other bowlers in the then pak team.
Great bowler. Speed and Swing. But not a good worldcup for Waqar to remember. He had a bad game and it happened to be a knockout quarter final against India in India. He conceived 67 runs in 10 overs during that game.
That innings from Jadeja was so heartbreaking. I mean we as Pakistan fans never knew that aspect of him and he showed us in one of the hottest and important games.
Amazed that Waqar did not take a 1000 wickets - batsmen had no idea how to play him. They just rode their luck and obviously the poor Pakistani fielders.

Pakistan has fixed the match against India in 1996 world cup. Otherwise an average batsman like Jadeja can't hit Waqar like a club bowler. Also Wasim Akram had withdrawn at the last moment due to some fake injury. Well played Pakistan.
You need to understand this money stuff and "mischievous acts" don't happen on behalf of 1 player; the entire board is involved with them. Yes sometimes there is this concept of bookies approaching players in an isolated manner, but usually in events like this the entire country at the government/board level is involved, not just 1 player. While players can still take blame for playing politically, divisions in the team, team corruption etc, the board/country government was the root cause of the downfall of PAK and the many 'sold' matches that we've witnessed. PAK could've won the 1996 cup and 1987 cup and 1999 cup and every cup after that, such is PAK's talent. But the corruption is so severe at the government and board level (which in turns lead massive team mismanagement and "breaks" between team players) that no team is ever properly established, all major talent is either destroyed or overlooked and the team never plays like a team, they play as individuals. They only time they played honestly was with Imran, and even that looked like it was very difficult to accomplish for him. Even then a lot of talent was mismanaged, overlooked or destroyed and not much was done at the government/board level. Imran was literally the main and only guy that spearheaded whatever damage PAK produced during his time and after, now imagine if even 10% of the government/board behind the team was honest, where the team could be! As someone on TH-cam has, PAK has the world's best talent (the most destructive, lethal and feared), but THE ABSOLUTE WORSE GOVERNANCE and THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF CORRUPTION.

You need to understand this money stuff and "mischievous acts" don't happen on behalf of 1 player; the entire board is involved with them. Yes sometimes there is this concept of bookies approaching players in an isolated manner, but usually in events like this the entire country at the government/board level is involved, not just 1 player. While players can still take blame for playing politically, divisions in the team, team corruption etc, the board/country government was the root cause of the downfall of PAK and the many 'sold' matches that we've witnessed. PAK could've won the 1996 cup and 1987 cup and 1999 cup and every cup after that, such is PAK's talent. But the corruption is so severe at the government and board level (which in turns lead massive team mismanagement and "breaks" between team players) that no team is ever properly established, all major talent is either destroyed or overlooked and the team never plays like a team, they play as individuals. They only time they played honestly was with Imran, and even that looked like it was very difficult to accomplish for him. Even then a lot of talent was mismanaged, overlooked or destroyed and not much was done at the government/board level. Imran was literally the main and only guy that spearheaded whatever damage PAK produced during his time and after, now imagine if even 10% of the government/board behind the team was honest, where the team could be!
As someone on TH-cam has, PAK has the world's best talent (the most destructive, lethal and feared), but THE ABSOLUTE WORSE GOVERNANCE and THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF CORRUPTION.
