    People connecting more on the internet and the homeless problem getting worse is probably the most accurate prediction anyone could've made back then. Great guests and discussion.👍🏾

    Probably, just a thought, DS9 was so good because the people making it were and are obviously such a decent lot.

    Maybe there should be a major fundraising effort for Bell Riots Day 2024, including outdoor gatherings in major world cities. Funds raised could go to homeless shelters. People would have to donate a minimum of $200 so the results make a difference. The outdoor gatherings could send the message that everyone should have access to safe housing and a basic income.

      I'd support Bell Riots Day. It's absolutely shameful how homeless people are treated. We currently treat homelessness as a single problem, but if you actually sit down and talk with someone who's homeless, their story is unique to them. Health care plays a big role as well.

      @@jorymil This has been noticed in Canada too, which is why newly planned deeply affordable housing for the homeless is supposed to have social services integrated into the buildings. in Canada, of course, it's mostly about mental health care, since the government pays for most physical health care, which means people don't go bankrupt over that. The issue with mental health care in Canada is that it's way too hard to access regular outpatient psychiatric care with enough time to address complex issues. There just aren't nearly enough psychiatrists to meet the demand, not just from people who are homeless, but pretty much everyone.

    Actually a lot of people in Los Angeles, like Sheriff Villanueva, tried to get the homeless into shelters and into contact with services. But so-called 'homeless advocates' did everything they could to stop it. LA politicians don't want the homeless problem to go away. They want them to suffer outside because they're getting millions of $ in programs that help no one. Meanwhile, residents and businesses are leaving in drove - leaving less of a tax base that could help people.

    It's shameful how we treat homeless people. So many have mental health issues. So many have issues of abuse. Lots of theft of homeless people's personal property: cell phones and computers are becoming more necessary, and it's tough for homeless folks to keep them.
    And we don't have an organized healthcare system that takes care of the homeless: it's the ER or nothing. I was in the ER the other day sitting next to a homeless man, and he was just trying to stay warm and get some sleep.
    We're supposed to take care of our neighbors, but instead we don't take the time to get to know them.

    Ira was my hero until I discovered he is a Zionist. So basically he sides with the Cardassians against the Bajorans.

    • @RafWu
      @RafWu 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I never found that there was an equivalency there. Israel did not use slave labor, nor did it starve workers. Israel made a partition offer and other peace proposals. And there has been Palestinian-administered territory whereas all of Bajor was occupied. I will admit however that currently, Israel has used excessive force and has caused excessive destruction in Gaza, some of it likely constituting war crimes and other violations of int;l humanitarian law but not genocide, as Germany has rightly argued.

      @VuotoPneumaNN 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RafWu LOL, "partition offers and peace proposals." Sure. Why then the borders established in 1948 have NEVER really been enforced? It is genocide. It's been going on for decades.

    • @RafWu
      @RafWu 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@VuotoPneumaNN Least successful genocide ever, with the Palestinian population increasing tremendously over time. As for the Gaza war, there is no "demographic" / "population reduction" intent behind Israel's action, heinous though some of them are. Also, there were no borders established in 1961. Also, did you know that Gaza was administered by Egypt for some time?

    • @VuotoPneumaNN
      @VuotoPneumaNN 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RafWu I meant 1948. Still. There was population segregation and containment. Which impedes the kind of growth that would have happened in a free state. In general, with the constant growth of illegal settlements in the west bank, the embargo and patrolling of borders of Gaza and the current massacre, the endgame is still substitution and genocide. Ask any member of the Israeli right or military, they have no problem admitting that. Yeah, Gaza was briefly administered by Egypt during the Arab-Israeli war, so? That was 80 years ago and that war ended up with Israel occupying it.

    • @RafWu
      @RafWu 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@VuotoPneumaNN I appreciate your opinion, but I disagree. Arabic countries however launched a genocidal war against Israel in 1948 but failed, The cruel and sadistic statements made by some of the leaders of those countries at the time are horrific, especially right after the Holocaust. And by the way, many Arabic countries robbed and dispossessed then expelled hundreds of thousands of Jews, many whom had lived there before the existence of Islam, from the 1940s to the 1970s. Good thing they had a country to flee to. The Israelis left Gaza and offered to help it develop peacefully but they weren't interested because the wish of Hamas and most Palestinians is the complete elimination of Israel and the expulsion of Jews from it. "Israel will exist until Islam obliterates it." Big no on that. Most Israelis have no other place to go. The ancestry of a huge number of them, by the way, is in Arabic and Muslim countries where it would be impossible for them to live safely.
