  • In this film we will be fabricating a simple patch panel for a 1953 Chevy truck. I will show some of the steps involved and demonstrate a couple different methods of shrinking metal. We will also be featuring a dramatic restoration of an abandoned antique drill.

    Good ole Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash, these men are what formed the soul of America and made it great. One of my favorite songs of Waylon has always been theme song of the dukes of hazard. I'm a good ole boy never meaning no harm. yep brings back memories growing up, my mom and dad always had there music playing.

    Another nice job on the fender patch. It seems to me, though, that for the tight bend at the corner, you could maybe slit some narrow pie sections a few times and bend over and weld up the remaining metal, rather than gather all of that and beat it up so much. Then I see you doing the 'look-away' welding technique on the tacks. I am surprised at how many guys do that. Then there was ... uh ... yeah ... uh ... the drill. Now that frozen relic is one of a kind! And BTW, I KNEW you were going to replace it with a real one, although I did not predict the use of a cordless. Fun stuff!

    • @CarterAutoRestyling
      @CarterAutoRestyling  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dennis the pie cut and weld method is considered a poor practice. Any time you weld metal you are damaging it so it's best kept to a minimum. Not only that, but it's much more tedious than just shrinking the metal and the final product is never as nice

    You may work on a door? But how would we relate? You mean doors can be worked on? Wow. More surprises await.
    The fender came out nice but that was to be expected.
    I built the British version of the wheeling machine because I only speak English. Does that mean I can only work on British vehicles?
    Wheeling machines are also know. as "Thumb Squashers".
    Your little fire went out while you were shrinking the patch and you just kept working. Then you had a bare knee? It's a wonder the water on your knee doesn't freeze. You must be tough.
    "All sixteenths" Oooo that's is a good tool.
    I'm quite impressed with the adhesion promoter torch that you use. Is there a special model needed for that?
    And that paint must be really special for the drill. I've never used paint that require open flame to blend. Impressive.
    The results of how well it drilled through that titanium was amazing. But you did have a little flash on the camera a couple of times that changed the colour of the drill and even your clothes. Must have been a colour "temperature" glitch.
    I stand by the offer I made during the live stream... I'll give you 3 rolls of duct tape for the drill. And not that dollar store stuff. But you have to pay for shipping of the drill.
    I think that is a fair trade.

    • @CarterAutoRestyling
      @CarterAutoRestyling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Joe, you could give it a try, but be warned that an American car may reject any patches built on a wheel that uses the queens english.
      I reccomend whatever torch has the hottest flame for promoting adhesion to plastic.
      I'll let the editing team know about the glitch during the drill demonstration, they haven't been pulling their weight lately.

    • @CarterAutoRestyling
      @CarterAutoRestyling  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh and the offer on the drill is tempting, I am considering another cash offer at the moment, but I could use more duct tape...

    Kyle in one of your future videos kindly show us how you repair metal rusted out areas that are around windshield and rear windows. I own a Jeep wrangler that is 32 years old, it's been garaged the better part of its existence but is still rusting badly around the windshield glass.

    • @CarterAutoRestyling
      @CarterAutoRestyling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't have any rusted windshield openings at the moment, but I'll be sure to make a video when I do. As for your Jeeps windshield frame, I've owned two Wranglers (a 92 and a 97) both had the same issue. My advice would be to just replace the whole windshield frame. Once the rust gets into those there's no stopping it.

    For shrinking the metal, why not just cut some out (even just the width of the cutting wheel) and weld it closed after forming the two flanges? Another way could be to just hem it 180 degrees around with the twisty shrinker tool, and hammer that flat, big shrinks! Love that drill restoration, the rigid orange really pops!

    • @CarterAutoRestyling
      @CarterAutoRestyling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1st way works, but is a lot of cutting and welding and doesn't produce as nice a result. In theory it's always best to keep welding to a minimum. 2nd way, if the metal is folded over itself it creates a spot for rust to form in between, also not going to be very smooth. Even though I didn't care if this panel was perfect, with tuck shrinking you can get it totally smooth if you keep working it

Truckers are amazing... lol Bilingual wheel... On making a corner... I have been known to use a hydraulic press. cutting out a die with a blow torch and grinding the sides nicely. I place the metal under with the mate of the curve tack welded on the shelf then the mate on top of the metal and i then jack down the press causing the metal to take the form of the corner, sometimes a bit of heat will make it conform to the radius. They don't list it online, it's only available in store, or in the parking lot if you bring a chainsaw.

      @CarterAutoRestyling  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it can be applied to sawzalls and other frozen equipment.

    I'm in southern Arizona so on average we both live in a very comfortable climate. A bunch of druggie neighbors just disappeared ahead of the law and left their cats behind, so now in addition to my 3 dogs I have 4 cats I have spayed and neutered, shots and feeding them and getting them to trust me, which is a tough sell after you have trapped them and spayed and neutered them..

    As a faithful viewer, I’m concerned about the lack of use from the repaired jacket you did a few videos ago. I’m also troubled by the decided lack of cats and duck tape lately. Have you been replaced by aliens and the real Kyle is off in space being probed while your alien doppelgänger is working hard here on earth? Just curious 🤨. 😀 stay warm.

      Thanks for being a faithful viewer! A few of my other viewers expressed concern about the repaired jacket being damaged before they had a chance to win it in the 50,000 subscriber giveaway, so I have put it safely away. Unfortunately I was only able to feature the cats briefly in this episode as I didn't want them to become traumatized by the drill restoration

      Miller Diversion 180. It's an entry level welder, but it has served me well
