      @Ray Francis: I remember our DI’s teaching us to make a PT Roll. Basically a T-shirt, PT shorts, underwear, and a pair socks which was used to roll it all together. It kept things neat, but it wasn’t exactly a space saver.

  • @cytherians

    I think this is a great tip for short term storage where space is at a premium. Rolling the socks up so tight put a lot of stress on the fibers and elastic. This will shorten the life of the socks. I think the modified square lock is the best, where the last step is what was done here--wrap the sock cluster using the stretch fold-over. But you can do it such that there's not a lot of tension and yet the socks will stay together. They also fold up flatter.

    • @xerus7425
      @xerus7425 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the square lock pointer!
      > But you can do it such that there's not a lot of tension and yet the socks will stay together.

    Thanks for the props! :) It's true, if you left your stuff ranger rolled for months and months that's probably not good for the fabric. But a few days or even weeks shouldn't do any damage. I've ranger rolled the same clothing more times than I can remember and didnt have any issues. I would usually rotate it within a week or two. The socks in this video are more torn up and frayed from a lot of PT and then countless laundry cycles than they are from being ranger rolled. Good luck on the trip!

    He says that b/c the elastic remains under tension (slightly stretched) when stored this way. Leaving elastic stretched for long periods of time decreases the amount it returns when the tension is released and over time the elastic gets loose. Still good for packing/camping in my opinion though. Very good set of videos, thank you for posting them. I know how I'm packing for my canoe trip now!

    I just fold mine into each other. They end up being maybe 10% more in size, but since you're taking 12-14 socks on deployments, the extra space of a sock is worth the extra time spent in regards to doing it bootcamp style. I never had patience with clothes and the less time I spend messing with it, the better it is for my calm.

    Interesting on what you call "Ranger Rolls". In my day (1968) at Boot Camp, all we did was roll up our tee-shirts, socks, and undergarments, according to some old WWII/Korea War days. We didn't even roll up our fatigues (OG Green), since we hung these on a hanger in our wall lockers, along withi Field Jacket, and our Class A/B uniforms. But I do like the idea of the Ranger Roll....

    I have rolled this way since I was in the Army with one modification at the end. If you make a fold of both socks (all layers of whatever you are rolling), then just roll your roll into the top layer of your fold you will yield an even quicker and neater result. I can roll any garment but prefer to use this only on socks, pantyhose, underwear and leggings on a daily basis. Note per difficulty: My mentally disabled child has this mastered. Just start by folding most items in thirds. For shirts, even t shirts, I roll from the neck to the bottom for more neatness and an unstretched neck.

    • @xerus7425
      @xerus7425 ปีที่แล้ว

      for socks on a daily basis? But this will wear out the elastics?

    LOL. We do the same thing in the Army here in New Zealand. I remember going through Recruit Course and the NCO screamed at a bunch of us for not doing it properly and that we made "Blow Job Socks". Fark that was funny. 😂😂😂

  • @gloriaalleyne2166

    Very neat but it stretches the top part of the sock, making the elastic wear to fast: result a droopy sock.

    You might actually believe it but this guy knows what he's talking about I was able to fit a whole outfit in a string strap back pack with ranger rolled clothes and took my shoes and ranger rolled jacket and used a fold belt to secure them onto the outfit pack how awesome is army gringo huh?

    My wife has always done this since we got married but I never paid attention. Thanks for the video and don't assume the Russian copied your work.
