    you could try adding an air lift tube setup to that divider. You don't need a lot of flow for the temperatures to equalize.

      Great idea, @Pumpnineteen! Thank you for sharing that suggestion-an air lift tube setup sounds like a simple and effective way to equalize the temperatures across the divider. I’ll definitely give this a try and will give you full credit for the amazing idea in my next update! Thanks again for contributing such a practical tip! 😊🐟

    The miracle of life! She is beautiful!
    Lovely video!
    I have so many questions..
    1) Do you have any reason to choose blue background instead of black for your discus? Is that because the discus will have the tendency to become dark in color due to black background for camouflage?
    2) I will also ask you today about the bacterial compatibility between different fishes from different systems. Say, discus and angels, for example. Many people tell me I shouldn't get any discus for my altum's system because the "bacteria from the discus will kill the angels" and vice versa. Please let me know what you understand about that.
    Thanks.
    Merry Christmas!
    Gorra love that background noise!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Thank you so much for the kind words, @Alex_Correa! 😊 I'm so glad you enjoyed the video, and I'm happy to help with your questions!
      Blue vs. Black Background for Discus: I personally prefer a blue background for my Discus because it enhances their colors and creates a peaceful environment. You're right, black backgrounds can sometimes cause fish to darken for camouflage, but blue helps bring out their natural hues without that effect. It’s really about personal preference and how you want your fish to look in the tank.
      Bacterial Compatibility Between Discus and Angels: As for mixing Discus with Angels or other species, I understand the concerns, but in my experience, if you maintain great water quality, quarantine new fish, and ensure they’re healthy, mixing different species can work well. It’s true that some bacteria might affect different species differently, but with proper care, I haven’t run into issues. Always be sure to quarantine any new arrivals to prevent any potential health risks.
      As for the tanks, I actually bought a fish room with all blue tanks, and I just never got around to repainting them white like I usually do. But I’ve found the blue background works pretty well, especially for the Discus!
      Merry Christmas to you too, and thanks again for your thoughtful questions! I hope this helps, and feel free to reach out anytime! 😊
      Best regards,
      Steve Heller

    Do you run just sponge filters in all of your tanks or do you have a canister filter with the sponge filter?

    • @shelleraquatics
      @shelleraquatics  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Great question, @Jbrown2356! I primarily run sponge filters in my tanks because they provide excellent biological filtration, are easy to maintain, and are gentle for fish like Discus. However, I do use a couple of hang-on-back (HOB) filters in some tanks for added flow and surface agitation. It’s all about keeping the water clean and well-oxygenated while maintaining a calm environment for the fish. Let me know if you’d like more details! 😊🐟

      @ okay sweet because I run 2 sponge filters in my discus tank plus a medium canister filter because I was afraid there wasn’t enough oxygen in the tank.

    Hi. Been watching for a little bit. Wondered if you could answer some questions I have. I got a pair back in march. They spawned for about 2 months about every week. Never hatched never were even fertile. Tried almost all the water combinations you could think of. Since then they have done nothing. Still eating very well and getting along nicely. Any ideas what this could be?

    • @shelleraquatics
      @shelleraquatics  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi @bradyphillips5170, thank you for watching and reaching out! It sounds like you’ve been putting in a lot of effort, and I’d love to help figure out what’s going on with your pair.
      There are many variables that could be influencing their breeding behavior, so let’s start with the basics. Could you provide the following details about your tank?
      Water Parameters:
      pH level
      Micro-siemens or PPM (hardness)
      Temperature
      Additional Details:
      Tank setup (size, decorations, tank mates, etc.)
      Diet (what and how often you feed them)
      Any changes in their environment or routine?
      How many spawns has this pair attempted?
      From what you’ve described, it sounds like they were trying initially, but something may have disrupted their process. Infertile eggs can often be linked to water hardness, temperature, or even the maturity of the pair. Once we know your water parameters and setup, we can dig deeper and figure out how to get them back on track!

      @@shelleraquatics Thanks for your quick response. My ph is 7.0 normal. With RO I can get it lower. But right now it’s 7. I don’t know ppm but I do know the tds which is 100. Temp is 82. Tank is a 20 high painted white. Nothing in the tank but a breeding cone. I feed Tetra color, freeze dried black worms,freeze dried tubifex and frozen blood worms. No changes since they last spawned. I would say they spawned 6 to 8 times unsuccessfully.

    • @shelleraquatics
      @shelleraquatics  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don't use tds or ppm so I had to convert it to microsiemens. Your Tds is too high. The EC has too much conductivity so the male milt can not Penetrate the egg sack. Also try to get your pH between 6 and 6.6 no higher. At 5.5 the male becomes in fertile. Also 2 females will spawn so be aware of this also
