    Thanks for the video 👍 I’ve had fry I’ve artificially raised eat bbs as soon as they were free swimming

      "Thank you so much for watching! 👍 That’s an amazing achievement to have fry eating BBS so early, even if discus typically wait until day 4 or 5. Raising fry is no small feat, and your success speaks volumes about your dedication and care. Huge congratulations on this accomplishment-keep up the great work!"

    Great video Steve. I’ve kept Discus for many years and got lucky a few times with spawns but was not intentionally breeding them on purpose like you. I appreciate your love and passion for the fish.
    I know you are a breeder and not a “keeper” but let me get your opinion on something I saw regarding a tank at the Georgia Aquarium. They had large wild discus in a planted tank with driftwood, sand, dither fish, and large freshwater spotted black string rays. I was taken back by this site. No one could tell me how they were maintaining this tank but as you know Discus are grazers and it seemed problematic being with the stingrays. It was a beautiful setup but do you think it is sustainable?

      **"Thanks, Rob! I really appreciate your kind words and your years of experience with Discus. That setup at the Georgia Aquarium sounds stunning-wild Discus, driftwood, plants, and stingrays would be an incredible sight. 🌿🐟
      But you’re absolutely right to question sustainability. Discus are grazers, as you mentioned, and they thrive on frequent, steady access to food. In a shared environment with stingrays-who are bottom dwellers and notoriously food-competitive-it could definitely be challenging to ensure the Discus are getting enough nutrition.
      Maintaining water quality would also be a huge task. Both Discus and stingrays produce a lot of waste, so the filtration and water change schedule would need to be top-notch to keep those large wild fish healthy. I’d guess the aquarium has a massive system behind the scenes to manage this, but for most hobbyists, it’s not practical.
      It’s beautiful for display purposes, but long-term sustainability would come down to carefully balancing feeding, water quality, and space. I’d love to hear what others think about that type of setup, too!"**

    Why are all those discus breathing so heavy?

    • @shelleraquatics
      @shelleraquatics  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      When you feed heavy respiration accelerates plus young fish are kept in warm water to grow correctly, Oxygen levels are very important! Im breeding and growing Discus not Keeping Discus, its about a 6 degree difference. Ive had 2 Weimaraner's they are amazing Dogs.

      So I just watched this video back and the heavy respiration was from STRESS, It was a rough morning and all these fish were traumatized especially the breeding pairs. I had to move fish around quickly and try and save over 100 4 day old Fry. I don't hide anything when a problem happens I document it unlike most of the staged perfect scenarios you find on you tube, ill keep it real good or Bad!
