It's more than that, Jiri and Prime Tony are extremely athletic and they crafted their whole styles around that. After the torn knee, Tony slowed down. Then age caught up to him, in the Oliveira and especially Dariush fights, he was still using many of his old techniques, he just didn't have the explosive strength anymore to make them work. Then the Chandler KO made him gunshy and totally ruined him. Hopefully Jiri never has to go through that.
@@redrain860 Yes, you are completely right. Tony had a terrible streak of bad luck and his style doesn't mesh well with physical decline. I hope Jiri develops some defence, as much as I love his hyper aggression having to grit out a win for every fight is not sustainable. It would suck to see his body give out on him the same way Tony's has.

He should've retired after the Dariush fight. He was old but still just barely competitive against back then, he was never the same after the Chandler KO.
Tony's durability and athleticism really overshadowed the fact that he didn't have a good style or much skill but when you're just pressuring fighters all fight it ends up being brawl either way so it kinda evened out the skill gap plus he had a decent ground game at the time so takedowns didn't work well either

What i am interested the most,is unhortodox strikes rather than striking. Things like shoulder strikes, forearms,palms, hip bumps. Things that are not your standard Boxing,Karate Tkd or MT base.
@issahgyandi3365 in my opinion,"gimmicks" are just waiting for the right environment to shine. Kicking was seen as a gimmick,when the PKA just started. Low kicks as well, before the inception of MT. Ground and Pound and MMA as a whole was seen as classless and skilless. Clinch fighting too. Now we see how they can make or break a fighter. If something feels unexplored, it feels like an opportunity to find " the next big thing" ,if not at least ask "why is this not more popular?"
I think it might be a relic from his young years when he used to be a football hooligan and street fighter, since without gloves, it's actually a great way to break someones hand.
@@mighail5880 I've done it in a street fight before. It hurts a lot less than you'd think. We have super strong foreheads for a reason. Also, you're not as likely to be dazed if the impact is straight from the front. I took three shots like that one after another and had no issue whatsoever. I'm pretty sure dude's hands were hurting more than I was. He actually ran away right after that.

I was one of the shortest kids at that age and the bullies were usually huge, so whenever they threw a punch at me, I'd throw my elbow up next to my temple and lower my head so they would either punch my elbow or the top of my head/forehead. It didn't feel good on my end, but it hurt them a lot worse. Also, I could claim I was not fighting back and just covering up, so I didn't get suspended for fighting.
It hurts me to see all these legendary fighters age and deteriorate. I hope we remember them for their feats not their defeats. Amazing video and amazing narration. ❤

He then told a story about a guy who he used to spar with and he explained that he had a very different off-beat rhythm and that's why he got hit more often. The fighters mentioned do have an off-beat rhythm when it comes to striking.

Because their timing is not normal, you feint with them and they are so much slower to you that they don't react.
Wish you had shown more of Dricus using his lead leg round kick in the fight vs Izzy. Honestly that impressed me just as much as his blitz did. It was so fast, so powerful and basically free money all night long and he mixed it up from body to head perfectly. That and his cardio are incredible. If he added side kicks to his arsenal it would give his opponent even more to think about

Having your hands low isn't universally bad technique, in boxing moreso yeah, but loads of boxers have had their guards down to showboat if they have good head movement and good footwork, and the strikes are unpredictable aswell - Ali even practiced no guard a good few times. But moreso I'm thinking about MMA, yeah a lot of guys considered great strikers in MMA have very poor striking defence, especially compared to boxers - but it isn't necessarily bad technique, having your hands low makes it easier to stuff the takedowns - look how good Robert Whittakers defensive wrestling is, and his hands are often quite low, not guarding either long or high or anything.

What techniques do they have succes with? What styles/techniques are weak points or potential weak points for them etc. Good stuff regardless. Keep it up!
I am new to watching mma, I actually really like DDP's style, i never seen him fight before, but I really like how he can charge like a bear, and also fall back when he is gassed
Charging like a bear, as you describe it, is generally a very bad tactic - especially against sharp counter punchers. MW doesn't really have many sharp counter punchers, or good strikers in general, so that explains a bit of his succes. He is a very good fighter, however, and smarter than he gets credit for due to his style being "ugly".

DDP gives me headaches It's like he can throw a quick punch, but slow it down halfway, then suddenly hits you with it faster. I can't explain how he does it. You see the attack coming, but at the same time you just don't know how it's gonna come

Tony is one of my all time favorite fighters. He was an absolute joy to watch in the ring, you truly never have a clue what he's going to do next. It's a real shame that he doesn't know when to quit, and also his titanium chin and unmatched cardio has probably caused him to take WAY more damage over the years than anyone else would have. Hopefully he retires and finds some other way to enjoy life
