    I believe the reason why they have the wall and the stairs is for them to climb and do the abhishek of the statue. I believe that the statue was a sitting posture budha which ended right at the end of the wall and by climbing the stairs they would reach above him from where they would probably pour milk and water for abhishek and would decorate everything around as well.

Its about the second largest Chandi in Indonesia, after Borobudur (Buddhism Temple)... then another Chandi is 'forgotten..' The Candi Sewu encodes the three & four-fold metaphysical motif of the Buddha. The 3 & 4 motif is a metaphor for Circling (3) your Square (4) & attaining enlightenment (a.k.a. Buddhahood). From the aerial view, the ancients clearly captured a static hypercube made of stone. The prominent harmonic numbers & their arrangements:
    4 (4 x 1) = The Entire Complex is arranged in a square. There are 4 rows of temples. The Dvarapala (Door Guards) guard the 4 cardinal directions. They have 4-fold earrings & they sit on a square pedestal that features a flower with 4 petals.
    72 (4 x 18) (3 x 24) = The two inner rows. A harmonic number used in many religions. The central dome of the Candi Borobudur is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues seated inside of stupas. In astronomy, 72 years calculates 1 degree of solar arc during the 25,920 year-long Great Year.
    168 (4 x 42) (3 x 56) = The two outer rows. A harmonic number used in many religions. 168 is the product of the first two perfect numbers (6 & 28). 168 = Primes less than 1,000. The number appears all over fractal mathematics, to include 168 equaling the second smallest non-abelian group, 168 automorphisms of a genus 3 Reimann surface, etc. 168 includes all the numbers above as divisors (1, 3, 4, 18, 24, 42, & 56). The Fano Plane has 168 symmetries. The word Glory (Doxa) appears 168 times in the New Testament.
    249 (3 x 83) = Total temples. The number is represented in Mahayana Cosmology. It also represents 5 x 50 = 250, minus 1 (You/The Buddha in You). This motif is similar to the Judaic motif of Moses & the 49 Gates (or 50 Gates), in which he was able to cross 49 of the 50 gates.
    Good Luck Circling your Square! 👍

      @@robertjan002 The Secret to Enlightenment is contained within all the religions of the world. However, due to cultural differences (languages, expressions, lexicon, etc.) the secret gets lost in translation. Even still, when someone attains enlightenment, they are left with the task of conveying the ineffable deity in those limited terms as described above. Thus, there never has been & never will be a step-by-step instruction manual for attaining enlightenment. My best advice is to study all religions, cross compare them all, & discover the proportion (mean) between them. With enough hyper-focused diligence & purification from sensual desires (clinging), you can awaken the ineffable Light within you, & you will become a Buddha, a Christ, a Hero, an Osiris, & many other names. You will have attained the Hypercube.

      Examples of this were the muslim invasions into India where they destroyed many temples, ancient libraries and statues.

    Thank you for the update, Praveen..!! It's interesting to know only the demonic statues are intact in the destroyed temple, and it appears something or someone shattered the temple to pieces at once. Indonesia's Buddhism is special, because they have a primordial Buddha named Sanghyang Adi Buddha, the Buddha who doesn't exist in any other Buddhist sects. I believe the headless Buddha shown on the video is Sanghyang Adi Buddha, because there are statues of him intact with the same hand pose in Indonesia. Thank you very much for the teachings as always, Praveen.

      @@davelawson2564 There are texts from Sewu written in Old Malay using the Javanese script (Malay was the lingua franca). Iron and bronze technology also existed in Indonesia long before Indian influence. The natives adopted Indian religions (Buddhism and Hinduism) but used their own tools to construct their own temples in their own style. That's why Indonesian architecture includes some elements that differ from Indian architecture such as candi bantar gates and sharp rooftops in traditional wooden buildings.
      The same thing happened in Cambodia with Angkor Wat. You can tell the builders of Angkor Wat were native Cambodians because their own sculptures of Hindu gods actually look East Asian such as apsaras, devatas, and hermits that decorate the walls of Angkor Wat.

    There was a guard behind this wall. As a rule, these were bhoots. They were smaller, slimmer humans and extremely effective as guards. You yourself have seen many narrow underground tunnels and some are covered with stones. If you disassemble the stones and widen the passages, you can find their skeletons. I was lucky, I saw several skulls of these creatures. The tradition of using these creatures as guards comes from the depths of ancient times, when the Ganas brought them to earth.

      @@totoro358 Yes, you correctly formulated “from another world”. I am not a supporter of immediately declaring aliens. For many decades, people have been conditioned to believe that such statements are madness or lies. But the problem is that any other explanation for the appearance of gans and bhuts is illogical. They are too different from all life on Earth. And at the same time there are some similarities. In any case, the Chinese of the HONG_HAN culture (pre-imperial period) depicted similar creatures. Small jade figurines with horns. There is a similar image on the facade of a house on the facade of one of the houses on the top of a mountain in the state of Maharashtra. You can also often find an image of a bhut in Anatolia in Turkey. But in Malta, in the museum of excavations of ancient settlements, there is a part of such a skull with horns. But no animal on earth uses the inside of its horns to house its brain. In earthly creatures, the brain is protected by the skull, and horns grow outside.

Could there have been such reverence for this place that there would have been a staff working and tending? And among that staff would be a choir to either chant mantra or hymns in the main temple. The false wall and stairs would allow a small choir to assemble and be unseen but heard while others congregate under the main Buddha statue and would increase the gravity of the experience? Idk, I have no clue if this is practiced anywhere in your culture, it was just a thought an outsider looking in had. Your videos are top notch and I tell everyone who will listen about them.

    The destruction surrounding you in this video makes me sick and sad.
    Humans are endlessly disappointing. Their stupidity only matched by their violence and hate.
    India in particular being a victim of that endless cycle.
    All we all can do is try and do better and try to put this world back together again someday.
    Great as always.

    I Think the Hidden steps are used climb up and reach the narrow wall from which the lord budhha is decorated, The architectute was so brilliant that the wall behind the main idol(Lord BUDHHA) at a very first glance no one can identify the wall and the steps behind it. Now a days in the temples there are large idols and to decorate those idols ladders are being used insted the architecture shown by PRAVEEN MOHAN in this video can be implemented.

    Chandi means Mother kaali. So maybe , the main temple was of Maa Kaali Devi Temple initially. When a Buddhist King came to power, they installed Buddha idols.
    When power changed hands to some other religion, they spoilt the statues.
    The dwarpalakas are wearing sacred thread meaning it was a Hindu Temple. Thats my guess.

    I think it’s not a Buddhist Temple, but a temple of Goddess Kali because Chandi meaning is one other name of Goddess Kali. Also other doubt is what are the two giant demons like Dwarapalakas doing in a Bhuddist temple? Because usually a Buddhist shrine or a Bhuddist temple is meant for meditating and demons like Dwarakapalakas doesn’t fit in a Bhuddist temple. Earlier there might have been lot of Chandi goddesses idols and later these might have been replaced with Buddha statues.

    • @lilstar3705

      Same doubt

    • @bennedictrai2212
      @bennedictrai2212 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well, candi in Indonesian means ancient temple for Hinduism and Buddhist ancient temple. So there's no connection with kali goddess, especially ancient Javanese believe in Siva, not in goddess Kali, and there's no Kali Temple ever built in Java. The only goddess that have her own temple is Buddhist goddess Tara. And ancient Javanese different than ancient India, from the start, a temple is built for one god, and never changed. So there's nothing like it was dedicated as goddess A temple first but later get converted to Buddhist temple like Angkor. FYI, Buddhism are the earliest foreign religion that arrive in Indonesia, Buddhist first, later Hinduism. Even if Hinduism older than Buddhism in India, but in Indonesia Buddhism is older. And dwarapala is the students of Budha, a yaksa that getting enlightenment, just like goddess Hariti. So if you think Buddhism is just about meditation, your statement are not fully correct.

    • @rajg5520
      @rajg5520 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bennedictrai2212
      Kali and Shiva have an influential association. He is her consort; she is his wife. Kali is the feminine form of Kala, which is one of Shiva's nicknames. Kali is Shiva's shakti (power), and he could not act without her assistance. Where Parvati soothes Shiva, Kali ignites him, provoking him to do wild deeds.
      On the other hand, Shiva is the one to soothe Kali's ferocity. Hindu myth offers multiple examples of Shiva calming Kali's destruction. One time, he challenged her to a dance-off, dancing wildly for days and ultimately wearing her out and beating her. On another occasion, he cried like a baby, appealing to her maternal instincts, which won over her destruction.
      Also as you said that Bhuddism arrived in Indonesia, I think prior to Buddhism, It was Hinduism in Indonesia.
      Also Yaksha is considered to be a form of Spirit. And Goddesses Tara is also similar to Goddesses Kali and they both have the power to summon spirits. And here again Yaksha is a form of Spirit and he is like the Dwarapalaka or Gatekeeper of Goddesses Tara or Goddesses Kali which again raises the same question that is it a temple of Goddesses Tara or is it converted to a Bhuddist Site?

    • @bennedictrai2212
      @bennedictrai2212 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hinduism in Indonesia not the same with the Hinduism in India bro, in India you can found many temple dedicated to many god or goddess, but in ancient Java, it's only dedicated to trimurti, especially for Shiva. I know that kali or in Java we known her as Durga cause her statue as Durga Mahisasuramardini is the Shakti of Shiva, but in Java her role is the aspect of Shiva. Her temple is inside the Shiva temple. Her entity is one and an aspect of Shiva, so she don't have her own temple.
      And goddess Tara that you describe, let me guess, you describe the Hinduism goddess Tara that part of Mahavidya right. Buddhism Tara is not the Hinduism Tara bro, Buddhism Tara is the manifestation of sunyata, and born from Avalokitesvara tear when she saw that many human are thrown to the hell. So she's not have similarities with goddess Tara of Mahavidya, even if they're both have same name and same mantra.
      Also, Buddhism dwarapala is a giant that love to eating human flesh, that make people fear and tell Lord Buddhato help them. Buddha meet the giant, and tell him the Buddha darma, after the giant learn it, the wild instinct disappear, so Buddha tell him to guard every Buddhist temple. It's similar but different bro. It's Indonesia not India, just because your ancestors have a bad memories between Hinduism and Buddhism like converted one temple to another, Indonesian ancestors already live in peace with each other even if we believe in different religions. As it write in our national motto Bhinneka tunggal Ika, that derived from ancient Buddhist kitab Sutasoma, that tell the story of prince Sutasoma. I believe it's different from the one in India since our perspective is different. Bhinneka tunggal Ika write in the kakawin when prince Sutasoma fight the giant king purusada. King purusada ask the blessings of Shiva, and prince Sutasoma is the manifestation of Buddha. It's say that Bhinneka tunggal Ika means that even if they're fight as two different entity, actually lord Shiva and Lord Buddha are one entity.
      Hope it can help you to realize that even if Hinduism and Buddhism came from India, it's can be different in other land, especially Indonesia.
