BW trans are light duty designed for passenger cars. Tremec is stronger, intended for light truck. BW has a finned case and curved shifter stick. Tremec has a smooth, rounded case and straight shifter stick.
I’ve a 82 CJ7. I eventually want to get a 258 and manual transmission. Currently a chevy 4.3l automatic. Does the T5 and Dana 300 have any markings on it for identification?
I’m sure there are markings. But, I don’t remember what they are. T5 is a good, light duty transmission. If you plan to pull a trailer, I would go with an AX15. I learned the hard way…

Is there an easy way to tell which tyranny I have? I've got an 85 cj7 with the 4.2 liter. It slipped out of 2nd going down a hill the other day.
Is it a 5spd?

I would say Borg Warner, but I’m not sure. Mine is a 5speed Tremec
My bad, it should be a Tremec also, T176
@@Curts_C10 Thanks.
