    One comment worthy of note. A lot of the newer imports have a gear reducted permant magnet starter motor... so when you bang on it you can very easily shatter the magnets inside. So even if you had thought about repairing the starter you now are up the proverbial Creek with out a paddle. Re-man starter 100-300 dollars new over a thousand... brushes about $30 which are now no longer an option. So unless you are in an emergency situation DON'T BANG ON THE STARTER.

    Now don’t get me wrong, snap on is amazing, that being said I only have a few snap on tools. I’m not a mechanic but i do more than the average guy, (right now I have an npi 4.6 block I’m getting ready to mate with ported PI heads, forged internals, ect)
    The tools I use are Gearwrench, Olsa, Tekton, Wiha, makita, Capri, ect.
    (Not gonna lie I have some HF stuff too) engine stand, breaker bars, a set of icon sockets, and of course the golden ratchet.
    I seriously think I have an addiction to shiny useful things, I order a tool or set every week. I think I’m up to 37 ratchets, 23 complete sets of sockets, 42 different pliers, 6 torque wrenches, and about 200-300 box end wrenches. Plus a lot more.
    But only 2 sets of screwdrivers as well.
    Anyways I love watching car repair videos when the guy with $40,000 worth of snap on uses the same tools I use as my main tools. Today it was your Gearwrench socket set. I have the same one except I pitched the blown molded case and threw them in my box on organizers. Actually just got another set of deep and shallow metric sockets yesterday.
    My point is that I would have spent $31,472.69 if I got all snap on (Or 2 dozen eggs) and I’m your average guy with bills and a family. And I’m not a pro mechanic like I said.
    But I am contractor so my work tools are waaaaaay over $30k. So I 100% get why you would use brands like snap on.

      Cracked windshield from parts placed in the wiper cowl is an entirely different situation than hood shocks slowly letting the hood down as you inch it in the garage.. giggety... Furthermore, wtf you putting up there god dam driveshafts?? "I accidentally sent a control arm through your windehh... Myyy baahhd.." people just get off on "teaching"/"warning" (aka: man-splaining) others about all the potential dangers of every single move made, or is hypothetically possible to make.. thank you Mr miyagi.. I will definitely think twice next time before I toss a pair of rotors up on the wiper cowl before moving a vehicle a meter (~3') with the hood up😂

    • @MonkeyJedi99
      @MonkeyJedi99 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a 1988 Bronco that had the hood latch fail at 40MPH, wrapping the hood over the windshield with a BOOM! that bent the hinges and required a windshield replacement.
      Quite a shock, given that I was in moderate traffic at the time.

      Ah but is it a second or fourth declension Latin noun? Is it like Dominus (2nd) or Exercitus (4th)? Is the ablative plural Lexis or Lexibus? A group of Lexus owners probably wouldn't like to think that they drove by with or from Lexibus, and the nominative plural would still be Lexus like the singular. The Romans must have got very confused. Just as well they didn't have auto-chariots.

    In the UK we have a compulsory annual MOT (Ministry of Transport) test for vehicle's 3 years old and over, even a "insecure" battery is an instant fail. If the police stop you and find the battery is insecure (even if the J clamps are loose) that is an offence and penalty points on your licence,a prohibition notice issued and vehicle deemed to be in an undriveable condition and will require a recovery truck.Loose battery is veiwed as a fire hazard and when repaired the vehicle has to be inspected again by a MOT test station.

    I remember in one of your videos demonstrating that when removing a battery you should always remover the negative connector FIRST in order to PREVENT SHORTING the POSITIVE terminal to ground with the tool you are using to untighten the connectors. Then, when reconnecting the battery do the POSITIVE terminal FIRST for the same reason.
    I agree whole heatedly with this, however, in your videos you invariably undo the POSITIVE terminal FIRST thus not only ignoring your own advice but risking shorting the battery’s positive to ground with a metallic object that you are holding.
    In the interest of maintaining the dexterity of the hand in question this is something that should probably avoided.

    Ray- Did you ever think of putting recessed "pots" on the floor so you can hook up a winch to them to pull vehicles into the shop when you have no help? My friend's son did this and it is wizard!

    Hello Ray, just a thought, if the solenoid clicks you know it is being energized, so you know it is getting 12v 🤫 Also I saw your N.C. Diss, not everyone here has the "Squat". I used to use a beat up riding lawnmower to drag cars in with a rope, and an old tire tied to the front to push, it worked until I got employees.
    As always well done

    I purchased a couple of those mag etic based lights like you use. Now I am picking them up off the floor all the time. But they are handy and give me exercise😅.

    Oh the memories, my first car was an old Ford Telstar. Bashed the starter for a good six months until I literally destroyed it. Walked past a refurbed unit on the shelf in Supercheap Auto (when it used to be good, Australian here), best $50 I ever spent. Played with the broken one on the bench for ages, man they pack some punch.

    The start-then-stall thing is interesting ... lot of Chryslers (esp. late 90s Jeeps) after a battery swap not only will start-then-stall, but sometimes you have to feather the gas pedal until it'll hold an idle, too!

    • @MosheKatz
      @MosheKatz ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Some years of the Toyota Camry do that too - the computer forgets the proper fuel settings for idle, and it takes a few minutes to relearn.

    • @legionofanon
      @legionofanon ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah what Moshe said, my 99 dodge likes to stall if the battery stays below 11 volts for too long and I jump it. I just discovered that my lower fuel rate injectors (19# instead of stock around 21#) did no stall on me, but it ran super rough until it went into close loop and figured itself out again
