One thing you're not mentioning, one more awesome thing for gig players, a practical feature :
The keyboard needs to be powered to use the built-in speakers, but if you play through a PA, the computer works as power supplier via USB.
Which means, from smallest rehearsals to bigger gigs you only need:
    -your Numa
    - sustain pedal
    -a usb cable
    -laptop

Hey Thomas! Thanks for watching! I do actually talk about this as being one of my favourite features of the board! At around 10:35! :) that and the fact that it’s so lightweight makes it really awesome!

  • @tommymandel3326

Your favorite feature ROCKS! - At a gig, the MD wanted Korg Camera Strings - so I got the USB A - lightning adaptor ("the camera kit") plug, and connected my iPhone (8 or 12) to the USB on the Numa .
It carried MIDI from the Numa to the phone (Korg Module has a Camera Strings patch) AND it sent the audio from the Phone to the Numa - so it was just one stereo output to the PA! a little velcro, and- yeah! Spot On! - (PS I layered the Phone's Korg Camera Strings with Woodwinds (Jazz Flute and Oboe, layered) from the internal Numa sounds, and Wow!)

Cool, I didn’t know the kit could do MIDI & audio simultaneously

For anyone having the firmware update issue on a mac, i was able to fix it by going to audio midi settings(the app), open the "window" menu, it has a "show midi studio" option. Unplug the numa, and select and remove the numa from the midi studio(click the"-" button). Then on reconnecting it updated just fine.

@@ChrisMutchJones Watching this video again. Enjoying your touch this time! Still using mine. I picked up a Hammond XK-3c last summer for a tour, it sounds superb, but at times this cool Numa 2x matches it pretty close, and at 1/3 the weight.
I need a bit of help utilizing the Midi Zones (from an external controller - hard to get the program numbers right for me - I did try plugging Midi OUT into Midi IN (5pin) and that almost gave me a 4-layer Numa, but I thought I MIGHT have detected the ghost of a burning odor, so I quickly disconnected that! If they could build a Korg X50 into this, wow! But even carrying both of them around to a gig, is still 7 + 4 kg - miraculous!

The new EP pack and Mellotron Pack are a really great improvement. I was unhappy with the factory Wurlitzer it came with and they really kicked up the quality on that. The pianos remain the weaker sound, but for the price it's got a lot packed in. The organs are great and the waterfall Keyes feel great. Where can you get solid Rhodes, Mellotron and Organ draw bars for that price? No where, and thats why I bought one. Their new German Grand Piano and Japanese Grand pack are both improvements on the concert Grand but they have work to do in that department. Honeslty I listen to Rhodes sounds put out by Yamaha and Roland and they feel a bit sanitized. I'm a big Rhodes fan and I would put their Rhodes up against models twice as expensive.

    • @pierstheoneandonly
      @pierstheoneandonly ปีที่แล้ว

I went with one of these as a sort of Poundshop Norlectro and it's fine for most purposes. Imo, among the electric pianos the Wurly is quite acceptable whereas the Rhodes is wishy-washy and offers nothing when you dig in.

@ShireLad Really eh? Did you get the Mark II update? I found the factory MK I was a bit weaker but I thought the updated MK II was good. I have the Reface CP which has a great Rhodes, and I find the SL MK II to be nearly as good.

Hey there - great review thanks! So I've joined a blues band (loving it) and been using my Yamaha CK88 (fully weighted keys, drawbars, decent organ sounds from the Reface YC); I love the CK, but this band has me playing 90% Hammond (which I love playing) and only the odd piano / EP song and while the sounds and functionality on the CK are great, the weighted keys are becoming a bit much for that much organ playing, so was considering selling the Yamaha and getting a Hammond SK1 (can't spend twice that on a new SKX Pro); the SK1 is a bit old, but still sounds fantastic, has some usable piano sounds, and I love the Fatar TP/8O waterfall keybed for organ (not the greatest for piano playing though).
Then I started watching reviews on the Numa 2X and now I'm wondering if this might be a better option as a "budget and lighter" replacement for my CK88, with an action that's more organ friendly but still usable for piano? Does this TP/9 keybed feel more piano like or more organ like? If the action is close enough to the TP/8O with the MIDI connectivity I could also look at getting that new Hammond M-Solo 49 key (same sound engine as the MK-4) and use the keybed on the Numa . . .
Sorry for the long winded question; i guess to sum it up: is the action a good choice for 90% organ, 10% piano?
    Thanks!

I have been wrestling a while with things like this. Maybe going to a midi controller and also looking at the studiologic Numas. I see the new Numa se is coming out soon. I like the CK but the keys on the 61 are too skinny and playing organ on the 88 would be tiring as I’ve tried that one also. I have the Roland Juno DS 88 and love weighted keys for piano but wish I could find something similar to a nautilus 73 or pa5x keybed.

    • @islandtony5009
      @islandtony5009 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@Music4Life Update here! I did go ahead and get the Numa Compact 2X AND a Hammond M-Solo :) The Numa's semi-weighted action is actually perfect for me; it does have piano shaped keys, but they are totally light and smooth enough to play organ effectively; to be honest they're probably closer to a TP/8O organ feel than they are to a piano action. So playing piano expressively takes a little bit of time to get accustomed to it, but after having it a couple of weeks I'm totally used to it. The organ sounds and leslie themselves are fine (on par with the Yamaha CK); the M-Solo's are a whole world of difference better though (and they should be - same engine as the brand new MK-4). The keys on the M-Solo are synth style (I'm positive they are Fatar TP/9S (so the same action as the Numa's TP/9P only with diving board synth shaped keys) and it's fine for playing organ on. I can MIDI out from the Numa and trigger the sounds on the Hammond, except there is some extra initial touch sensor going on with the M-Solo that is super cool that the Numa clearly doesn't trigger when connected - and that's the sound of the tonewheels getting up to speed (at different rates; depends on your drawbars); it's cool and noticeable enough that I decided to just stick with playing the M-Solo itself.
As far as MIDI controllers, when I was first looking for an organ one - THEY DON'T EXIST! No one makes a waterfall key organ centric MIDI controller (which I find baffling). I've actually started a homemade organ MIDI controller project; I bought a Doepfer MKE kit along with a Fatar TP/8O keybed; works great (haven't tested that with the M-Solo yet) but if you google Doepfer MKE you can look into that as well.

@@islandtony5009 Wow! Cool I was also considering possibly making the midi controller I want. I’ve been looking a little into either making one from scratch with a diy kit or get a few cheap midi controllers and seeing what I could do with the parts from them. 😀 Possibly make myself a 73/76 key controller or a b3 style dual manual. I also see a way I could make portable bass pedals with a midi controller or keyboard. I’ve just got to figure out how to reroute or transpose individual midi notes. There are a couple of waterfall midi controllers out there but at $2K plus. Another thought was to take the key tops from a waterfall controller and transplant them to another. I’ve got a lot of ideas to test out also. Congrats on the rig! Thanks for the info.

I have an old fatar studio 900 which I have not played for long. Also I have no way anymore to generate sound with it as it is midi only.
Would this numa be a good combination in that it will accept the midi from the 900 and make sound from it.

It’s quite a pity that the likes of Studiologic and even Kurzweil are using external power supplies (wall warts) for their flagship stage pianos. In the grand scheme of things, I’m sure a potential customer would opt to pay the extra $5-$10 to get a unit with one built into the keyboard.

As a producer, pianist and allround performer with over 30 years of international experience I can honestly say this is by far the worst piece of trash I have ever wasted my money on. I don't know where to begin. The hardware is toy like, the sounds average at best. If you think this has a great piano you've either never played a good ePiano or you're outright deaf. Go listen to a Korg or Roland of the same price range. It's like putting up a VW Beetle against an Audi R8. Thin samples all around.
Integration in a professional setup is so unstable that it's basically impossible. Multiple drivers (WHY?) which may or (more often) not connect, completmented by a buggy interface paired with absolutely zero effort or logic put into the interface development. This isn't limited to the software either. It's eg the only keyboard I have where the volume knob is on the right. Because if you need to adjust volume mid-song you'll use your right hand, right? Not a single thought was put into this.
The "compressor" is far from it's label "Mastering" LOL and offers the same sonic "quality" the "build your own VST" programming kits a few years ago offered. The same goes for the "EQ". This is the product of a bunch of fresh from uni
"programmers", not audiophiles and not musicians.
Shall I keep going? If you are a pianist using the pedal you'll run out of voices quickly. But unlike what you'd expect since all other units do this, the numa doesn't just cut off the earliest played voice. Instead you just get a few random note playing and cut out at any point in time on top. This is the unit telling you to let go of the pedal I suppose.
The keys of the unit are extremely short, yet the veolicity management doesn't address this. Inevitably you'll get odd loud notes where you don't want them.
Studiologic "Support" is useless, too. When confronted with actual, real-life integration issues can't solve they simply stop replying.
The entire unit is a bad joke. Would never buy again and I will never as much as look at any product by Studiologic. You're paying for a brand name here. Nothing more.

Of course the piano sounds need to be improved and some orchestral instruments are missing.
