It’s not out of his league. He’s not the first and won’t be the last to try bluffing with an ace blocker in this situation. All you can say is “I tried” and move on.

Mariano shouldn't be checking his cards on every street. you should only do that when you flop the nut flush and want them to think you don't have it.
So, he did the same thing he should (and would) have done if he HAD the nut flush. You can argue, then, that he played (and bluffed) in a balanced way.
@@0MG.N0 no. People who don't know what a reverse tell is always see you checking your cards as a sign you have one of the suit. I never check my cards when I have one of the suit and always do when I have the nuts and I almost always get paid when they see me looking.

Its really bad to keep bluffing on the river, no? Pocket pairs folded turn, and all worse flush draws you beat w/ A high. Made flushes, top pair (some of the time) and sets dont fold on river.
You are assuming that weaker flush draws check back and let you win with A-high. Bluffing with nut blocker can't be bad, you just have to be sure not to overdo it. You have a lot more combos of Ahx than flushes.

Can only call , can't fold , can't raise... and probably only get called by better if raises ... not losing to much ... AK , set , or a flopped flush which is unlikely, mariano play woukd of been better if 2 diamonds on flop and diamond on river .. not often that a flush is flopped and he did have blocker to nuts , he needs to give up on a hand sometimes and did have a bit of show down value to a biggish diamond that also missed the board

His biggest win was straight flush vs ace high flush, basically a luck situation for over 700K. I think people resent poker players who seem more lucky than good. I personally have no issue with him, but he doesn't particularly impress me as a player.
