  • Hey everyone. Welcome back to the studio, which is starting to look like a liquor store. But it's pandemic times, so no judging.
    In this video I go through various steps of on-white photography for glass bottles, perfect for e-com or catalog product photography. This is the first in what I hope to become a series of tutorial videos on how to photograph in a studio.
    I mentioned some specific products, and have compiled some Amazon affiliate links if you want to go shopping (at no extra cost to you):
    Seamless Paper, 26" wide:
    amzn.to/2ZgP0Vd
    Yongnuo YN560-III Speedlite
    amzn.to/2WzEWF2
    Newer Bracket:

    Neewer 8 x 36 inches Stripbox (Bowens)

    Profoto OCF Softbox 1x3'

    So, i realise you don’t have a load of followers, but here is the thing, I’m a musician and during lockdown i had no work for around 18 months, desperate i started looking for a day job, i don’t really have any other skills apart from photography, in my desperation i found an opportunity with a drinks company, they asked me to come in a test shoot, I did what many clueless photographer would do and jumped on TH-cam to see how the hell you shoot bottles! Your video popped up and I followed it step by step, i went in to their offices with a mobile setup and bingo I got the gig. So in case you haven’t guessed yet, this message is an enormous THANK YOU, your video really helped set me on the right track! You see you never know who’s watching and how it can help. Good luck and thanks again. Tony.

    • @ch3m1st
      @ch3m1st  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Angela, the exact mini metal table I use is this: Impact Wall Plate with 5/8" Locking Receiver amzn.to/3gaeIRe mounted on a short c-stand, but any light stand will work. You could also use something like this plate with a stud instead of a receiver, amzn.to/3cSgcxx and mount it in a grip head or arm. for the acrylic, I got a 6x12' from a local shop, but this would be similar on amazon: amzn.to/36eLKeC acrylic can be scored with a blade a few times and then snapped to size. (just be careful)

    Found that lighting diagram for the last set-up particularly helpful with a white whine bottle I just shot. Camera settings wise what do you typically shoot in these sort of scenarios?

    • @ch3m1st
      @ch3m1st  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Camera settings are always fluid, but 1st requirement is that you have a black frame without strobes so you know all of the light in the frame is what you added, and not ambient. ISO usually as low as possible, Shutter speed is sync speed of your camera, typically 1/125 - 1/160s, and aputure is dependent on depth of field, but f/8 -f/11 should be a good start.

    Morning,
    Thanks for the video ch3m1st!
    That diffusion paper idea open my eyes to getting those highlights to becoming gradients! Do you happen to know where you can purchase those?
    If not I guess any shoot through material would work( I.e. bed sheets, the diffusion panel from a 5-in-1 reflector)

    • @ch3m1st
      @ch3m1st  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The diffusion I use is called Translum by Savage (same colony that makes seamless paper.) they make different thicknesses but I’ve only tried the heavyweight for the most even diffusion. Other brands like Lee and Rosco also offer diffusion rolls.

    Nice video tutorial. Really nicely structured. Still learning to improve my work from time to time.
    I've a struggle on shooting products have really bright neon colors, so I'm curious to know if there is a solution when using with the lighting strobe. Everytime I shoot with my lighting setup, the color isnt the same as the actual product itself.
    My current "work around", I take without any strobe/speedlight by only using a slow shutter. So that I can "achieve" the actual color representation but it will appear flat as I dont have the lighting to create the depth that I need.
    Thanks and keep up the good work!

    • @ch3m1st
      @ch3m1st  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Color reproduction is often a challenge. One thing to consider is lighting it to create the shape and texture you want and fixing the color in post production.

    • @multiviousstudio2969

      @@ch3m1st Thanks for the reply. Yeah, looks like no short cut to that. Ha ha

    • @ch3m1st
      @ch3m1st  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Multivious Studio another reason is cameras see colors differently than people. For example refraction rainbows are difficult to capture of some materials that look holographic. Also neon glow is activated by UV and strobes filter that out. There are UV flash tubes for capturing in camera but they are so $$$ and rare, it’s better to just do it in post.
