She's a great dog! I'm a vet tech so I'm just going to throw my experience's out there: grooming is crazy important for doodles and getting her used to being brushed is awesome, I will say getting her used to having he toes touched and played with is super helpful when it comes time for nail trims, it will save you huge headaches in the future. She should also be watched when playing with any soft toys. Many many dogs will rip those up, eat them, and then need a foreign body surgery when that soft stuff gets stuck in the intestines. I love rubber toys, like kongs, that are much harder to rip apart. I think you are doing an awesome job!
another really good thing that helps out when you do go to the groomer is getting a electric tooth brush and running that around her to get her used to clipper sounds

I volunteered at a dog training clinic, and a good exercise for name calling is creating a circle around her and having different kids call her one at a time ☺️ With treats of course! I also recommend hiding the treats behind your back/in a pouch. Can’t wait to watch her grow!!
I really recommend that when you are training her you don't say the command over and over again. The best method is that you say the command and the dog doesn't do it just wait 3-5 seconds and then repeat the command because when you say it over and over again dogs can think that the command is like "sit sit sit" or something like that. It really takes a lot of time and effort, so I appreciate you sharing this journey with us. It really is so great to see, and I hope it encourages other people to do research before taking on the responsibility of an animal! ❤️
You’re doing such a great job so far! I trained my own service dog and learned a lot along the way, and every time I thought of a suggestion, you’d come back a few seconds later and say exactly what I’d been thinking. Best of luck with your adorable new puppy!
Jessica, be prepared to be Rue’s favorite person. We have a three year old miniature golden doodle who we got when he was eight weeks. My mom spends the most time with him (especially since working from home for over a year). He basically only loves her, and tolerates my brother and me lol. I mean, he’s not mean to us or anything like that, just, he cuddles my mom at night, he follows her everywhere, and he always looks for her first when we walk in the door.
Jessica you’re doing an amazing job! Having 2 dogs until very recently (11&12.5 yrs). Considering you never had a dog I was so surprised when you said that! Natural!! Ohhh and any soft toys that the kids have that they don’t have on them all the time anymore, give that to her because it’s got their scent on it and it helps them feel safe and comfortable. It also builds a bond with the kids too🥰🥰
You sound like you’re doing everything pretty much by a gentle trainer’s guidebook. And combined with an already sweet natured dog, you hopefully will have very few surprises. And you already sound prepared for it. 🥰
Jessica, you are so sweet! I love how you want to make the puppy's life as happy as possible. It will be a wonderful change in your family. The kids must be ecstatic. This is one lucky puppy to be a part of the Ballinger Family.
the bond between a mom and the dog is always the most important and the best, i'm so happy that Jessica is such a good dog mom!!!!! and you are doing everything right with caring about her and continuing to learn!!! I love the bond between you two!!!! my only suggestion is making the crate size a lot smaller but im not an expert ive just raised a couple dogs:) also keep her in the crate for her first YEAR (at night or whenever you are not home) from experience it makes a HUGE difference and its so hard but its so worth it, trust!!!!
Yes! What Chris said about training yourselves to be good dog owners. You are incredible dog owners. I feel a lot of regret that I had no idea how to be a good dog owner when I first got my puppies over 15 years ago. No, they were not calm spirits, but still. You guys are impressing me AND teaching me a LOT. I'm so impressed with you both!! You deserve this wonderful puppy, and she most certainly deserves to be with such a lovely and responsible family!
Again as a vet med worker, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the crate and brush training, your vet staff and groomers will appreciate it more than you know 😅
She’s going to be the best trained dog ever bc Jess has been it a lot of time and effort into being a great dog owner and I love how they are training her by the book!! I’ve always just done the old school ways of praise and never had issues but rue is gonna be a special dog for luke so this amazing to watch her grow and learn!!
She is super cute !! You guys are going to be great dog parents! A little bit of advice would be if she cries or whimpers in her crate, try not to go and pet her to calm her down as she will learn that everytime she cries you come and give her attention and it will be super hard to correct once she learns this bad habit. I gave my dog as much love and attention as he wanted and now he has separation anxiety so I can't leave him at home and he constantly barks until you give him attention that he wants 😔
I just wanted to say that you are doing a fantastic job! I currently have an 8-month-old pup. But I've had him from 8.5 weeks old and faced all the same training etc as you are. You have started off so well! Name training is so important because everything else comes after that, if they don't know their name, they don't know who you're talking to! At puppy school we learned that dogs don't speak English (shocker) so we have to teach them. So her name is Rue, not Rue Rue Rue, that's the biggest thing to remember as it goes on to all commands. Speak, pause for the dog to think and then act. If there's anything I can do to help, I'd be happy to! We've graduated puppy school and are now helping other dogs to learn!
She is so sweet and adorable. I love her heart shaped nose. I will say this. It helped with our dogs. Since I have has dogs my whole life. She might want a blanket or a pillow or something soft to put in her crate. My dogs hated the hard liner.
As a person who has had multiple dog in my life time, I recommend just seeing how she responds to things and they way that she does best. It's probably not necessary to have a schedule for her and just let her figure out what she wants to do. And I feel that as long as she's going potty outside, that's a win and she doesn't necessarily need to have a "potty space". She will adapt to her new life and so will you. I sometimes think if it as instead of you training her, she's training you to be a good dog owner. Everyone wants to be a perfect mom/dog owner but things don't always go as planned and just take it as it happens and don't rush because she is just a little puppy and is still learning.
I’m back from family reasons after four years, congratulations having Luke, Rue and a new baby boy on the way. And OMG everyone has grown so much. I’m so happy to be back. All the love to you guys from the north of Sweden 🇸🇪❤️
You are doing such an awesome job!! I find that hand signals have worked really well for us with our dog. We have different ones for "sit","lie down", "Stay/wait". They're really simple and you teach it by just doing the same action whenever you say the command and eventually they will learn it and you can command them without saying anything.
You are doing great!!! She has a great demeanor and you are doing the exact right thing by not pushing too hard. Always end training in a positive way is my biggest advice. There will be hard sessions for sure but make sure to end on a positive!
It really just depends on her. Once you get you to her schedule, then I recommend training her into your schedule. I do recommend having her learn the crate and sleep there until she is 100% house broken. She is adorable and I think you are doing great as a first time owning a puppy!❤️🐶🐾
We also just got a new puppy! 12 weeks old. I love seeing someone else going through this same journey, and taking the same steps. You guys are doing a wonderful job!
Rue reminds me SO much of my yorkie/poodle mix puppy, Rosalie (she was 13), who passed away unexpectedly this past Christmas. She was the SWEETEST, most gentle spirit JUST like Rue. We never had to use her leash and she was soo smart and chill. I’m so surprised to see another puppy act like her. I’m so excited to be able to watch Rue grow up. She reminds me so much of Rosalie 😭 thank you 💕
100% dog training is mostly human training. Also, she is one of the calmest puppies i have ever seen. Great stuff guys, can't wait to see Rue grow up and become an integral part of the family!
As someone with chronic pain and fatigue disabilities I can not get over Jessica being pregnant, having 5 kids AND properly training a puppy. I wish I had just a fraction of the energy and enthusiasm 😅
What a beautiful puppy 🥰 you’re doing a great job! I have an 8 year old lab that doesn’t resource guard with people but will with other dogs...so I’d be sure to expose her to other dogs if possible. Just a suggestion! I hope you all enjoy this new chapter 💕
My parents took my dogs to puppy training sessions and also took me and my sister so we could also train our dogs. At home my parents kinda raised my dogs like me and my sister. Told them no if they did something bad and praised them when they did the right thing. My dogs are almost 8 now and they are very nice, calm, and patient. The lessons we did were at pet co.
You’re doing amazing with the training! She’s so lucky to be in your family. Hand feeding by ditching the bowl is one of the most enriching things for dogs :) our dogs are 2&3 and they still work for their dinner- it’s something dogs genuinely love to do.
A big word of advice is put a blanket or an article of clothing or a pillow in her crate. It’s more comfortable for them and they like to have your smell with them when they are alone
Jessica is so patient and kind and doing so well for a first time dog owner. I would recommend touching her feet, toes, ears and opening her mouth gently every now and then. If you or a vet/vet nurse ever need to do these things in the future it makes it easier
I have a dog with curly hair and if she ever doesn’t like the brush you’re using, I would suggest using a “wet brush” like the ones people use because the bristles are more gentle and doesn’t pull the curls. You are doing a great job with her!!
i have an almost 10 month old cockapoo puppy, since hes an older puppy he doesn't really have too many acidents anymore, but for a while, and still sometimes, he would get exited when we came home and he would pee, if that happens with rue, amazon sells lots of reusable doggy diapers which help, we take them off when our puppy actually has to go out and pee or uses a pad. also the reusable diapers will work great if rue gets her period before shes spayed!!!! u guys are doing amazing!!!! also both our dogs love bull pizzles/bully sticks, they distract the dogs and keep them busy if your looking for something to keep her ocupied!!!!
Aw you guys are doing such a great job with her! Doing your research and trying your absolute best ❤️ I work with dogs everyday in a kennel and with grooming and you have the proper grooming tools for doodles which is amazing because many don’t realize how their hair is like ours. Also, as soon as she has had her shots, socializing her with new people and other animals will help her to desensitize and prevent aggression in the future which will be essential when she becomes a service animal. Love you guys so much! You’re killing it
Some suggestions that I don’t know if you guys are doing but look at the simpatico dog training video about dog toys. Essentially the video talks about the different types of dog toys and when the dog should have access. It also doesn’t hurt to buy toys that are way to big. In fact never buy a toy that is her size because she will out grow the toy before she stops playing with it. Also rotate her dog toys so there are only a couple of toys every day. It’s good you are using a crate. Another tip get your kids to come into the room and do/wear something funny while you reward her for being calm. At some point you should try and watch some tv while she is in the same room so she can get used to many noises that don’t regularly happen ie watch a crime show so she doesn’t get scared of police vehicles type thing.
I’ve never watched first time dog parents. This is fascinating. I grew up with dogs and brought my last dog home with a leash only lol (with the essentials at home). It’s so sweet how thorough they are being!!
I remember watching this channel when I was 15 or 16 and I used to get so JEALOUS because I wish I had parents that treated me and my brothers like the way they treat their kids and I use to get so MAD thinking why do they get to do that and why don't my parents say and do things like that for us { also at the time I lived in a foster home with 3 of my biological brothers} so eventually I just stop watching this channel and avoided all family channels altogether. But today I decided to find this channel again { I'm about to be 21 now} and it's so cool to watch their family again and see it grow it's so different from back then and it's so amazing how much they all love and care about each other but I'm not gonna lie I did get a little jealous about them getting a service dog for luke because I and my youngest brother had and still have the same problem but we never got help or learned about it until I took both of us to a neurologist a few months ago. But then I realized that I'm so happy that they can get him different types of help. I love you and your family and I wish you luck for the future
@@lucyk5507 Yes but it’s different for both of us like it affects his speech, appearance, and the way he thinks. For me it affects me more physically like with balance and reflex also the whole left side of my body is a lot slower then my right. It also has made my hearing decrease by a lot.
you guys are doing a great job! it makes me laugh sometimes to see new dog parents stressing out so much because I promise you everything will work out perfectly in time and she will be the best little bundle of joy! she has an amazing new family
(vet med student) Make sure you train for separation anxiety too, you want to be able to leave her there while you shop, run an errand, want to shower, while no one is with her, or she will be destructive! Use small times and leave her alone, so start with 30 seconds, lots of praise for being alone, then 50 sec, lots of praise and keep building the alone time !!
She seems like such a calm spirit! What a honey bear! Even her nibbles are so relaxed! I think she’s going to be a really great girl!

the bond between a mom and the dog is always the most important and the best, i'm so happy that Jessica is such a good dog mom!!!!! and you are doing everything right with caring about her and continuing to learn!!! I love the bond between you two!!!! my only suggestion is making the crate size a lot smaller but im not an expert ive just raised a couple dogs:) also keep her in the crate for her first YEAR (at night or whenever you are not home) from experience it makes a HUGE difference and its so hard but its so worth it, trust!!!!
you are doing everything tho right Jessica!! I think she will be an amazing girl no matter what
Again as a vet med worker, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the crate and brush training, your vet staff and groomers will appreciate it more than you know 😅
You all are doing an AMAZING job! Ru is blessed to have you as her furr-ever family
You're right, this is important
She SO calm and passive!! I’ve never seen a puppy so relaxed! Usually there crazy and jumping all over the place. And CHEWING everything! So cute! 💗
Jessica, I would have NEVER guessed that you’ve never had a dog. Amazing job!! She’s a lucky pup! ❤️
Jessica, you are doing SO well for a first time dog owner! Rue is a lucky puppy.
Puppies Love walks
She is so sweet and adorable. I love her heart shaped nose. I will say this. It helped with our dogs. Since I have has dogs my whole life. She might want a blanket or a pillow or something soft to put in her crate. My dogs hated the hard liner.
So sweet! When I got my dog he wouldn’t sleep in his crate until we put a light sheet over the front part of the crate were people would walk past.
Yeah I think she wants the potty space for the kids so they don’t accidentally step in anything
🥰...."its balance" the key to so many things
I’m back from family reasons after four years, congratulations having Luke, Rue and a new baby boy on the way. And OMG everyone has grown so much. I’m so happy to be back. All the love to you guys from the north of Sweden 🇸🇪❤️
We're glad to have you back! Hope you're doing well!
@@Jamie-we8rf thank you so much hope your doing well to!
Wait when did they reveal August baby’s gender? Sorry I haven’t been watching every video
Deepisa Bhusal it was posted a month ago :)
@@rebeccas5530 Oh wait I think I remember! It was the Easter egg right?
You are doing such an awesome job!!
I find that hand signals have worked really well for us with our dog. We have different ones for "sit","lie down", "Stay/wait". They're really simple and you teach it by just doing the same action whenever you say the command and eventually they will learn it and you can command them without saying anything.
She might feel more comfortable and happy If she had a bed in the crate
Me too!! 💜
@@strawberrysoymilkshake at least there is someone to inspire us 🥰
What a beautiful puppy 🥰 you’re doing a great job!
You can buy special bells that you put by the door that she can learn to ring when she needs to go out. Or put a doggy door in.
Jessica is such a sweet and calm person I think she will do great!
You’re doing amazing with the training! She’s so lucky to be in your family. Hand feeding by ditching the bowl is one of the most enriching things for dogs :) our dogs are 2&3 and they still work for their dinner- it’s something dogs genuinely love to do.
I love how motivated you guys are to train Rue! It’s so good to see a family really dedicated, she will be a wonderful family dog!
I also really support all the training so far! We have 3 pits and they are amazing with kids it really does depend on training !
Jessica is the best human mom and the best dog mom!
A big word of advice is put a blanket or an article of clothing or a pillow in her crate. It’s more comfortable for them and they like to have your smell with them when they are alone
I am so happy for you guys! Y’all are going to be the best parents for this puppy, and your soon to come baby!!!
I have a golden-doodle puppy and he sleeps best in his crate when part of it is covered with a blanket and when he had his snuggle puppy! 🐶
Such a cute pupper! Thank you for sharing your puppy journey with us, you guys! 💙
Jessica is so patient and kind and doing so well for a first time dog owner. I would recommend touching her feet, toes, ears and opening her mouth gently every now and then. If you or a vet/vet nurse ever need to do these things in the future it makes it easier
Curious if you guys have thought about bringing in Rachel’s friend Joy to help train? Or even Rachel!
I have a dog with curly hair and if she ever doesn’t like the brush you’re using, I would suggest using a “wet brush” like the ones people use because the bristles are more gentle and doesn’t pull the curls. You are doing a great job with her!!
Yes! Those are amazing. I have one of these for my Scottish Terrier. It even helped get burs out of her coat once so I didn’t have to cut any fur.
i have an almost 10 month old cockapoo puppy, since hes an older puppy he doesn't really have too many acidents anymore, but for a while, and still sometimes, he would get exited when we came home and he would pee, if that happens with rue, amazon sells lots of reusable doggy diapers which help, we take them off when our puppy actually has to go out and pee or uses a pad. also the reusable diapers will work great if rue gets her period before shes spayed!!!! u guys are doing amazing!!!! also both our dogs love bull pizzles/bully sticks, they distract the dogs and keep them busy if your looking for something to keep her ocupied!!!!
21:50 THAT YAWN!!!!! omg that was so CUTE 😍 she is truly the cutest pup i have ever seen.
I’ve never watched first time dog parents. This is fascinating. I grew up with dogs and brought my last dog home with a leash only lol (with the essentials at home). It’s so sweet how thorough they are being!!
Rue is such a sweet puppy.
You and your brother have the same micro deletion as Luke?
@@lucyk5507 Yes but it’s different for both of us like it affects his speech, appearance, and the way he thinks. For me it affects me more physically like with balance and reflex also the whole left side of my body is a lot slower then my right. It also has made my hearing decrease by a lot.
Tip: if you wake her up it will become a habit! try to let her sleep!
Shes doing so well! I found my dog did well with a comfort item in her crate as well as a covering over it to make it den like and cozy.
you guys are doing a great job! it makes me laugh sometimes to see new dog parents stressing out so much because I promise you everything will work out perfectly in time and she will be the best little bundle of joy! she has an amazing new family
She seems so sweet and you guys are being so thorough with your training! It’s so wonderful to see. ❤️
Jessica you are amazing!! You care so much you are doing an AMAZING job!!
I can't get over how cute your new puppy, Rue is! Adorable!
(vet med student)
Make sure you train for separation anxiety too, you want to be able to leave her there while you shop, run an errand, want to shower, while no one is with her, or she will be destructive! Use small times and leave her alone, so start with 30 seconds, lots of praise for being alone, then 50 sec, lots of praise and keep building the alone time !!
