- Meeting Our New Puppy! Today we pick up a new addition to the family, a Standard F1B Goldendoodle! She is so well-behaved, cute and fun and the whole family LOVES her! We share what we did to prepare for her arrival and how we transported her home & introduced her to our small children on her first day in our home. All of our videos are closed captioned and always family friendly.

Okay, can we all give Duncan soooo much credit?! He was SO excited and did such a good job trying not to overwhelm the new puppy! His sweet little giggles were everything!

That dog has no idea how lucky she is yet. She is blessed to be with the most caring and loving family in the word. I hope you can train her for Luke, it’s not an easy job. I have faith in you, Jessica is a brilliant mother. Luke is the luckiest little boy to have a family that cares about his needs so much. Love you guys, good luck!

Duncan did wonderful in his first meeting with her! It’s hard for little ones to stay calm when they’re excited. It’s so clear that there’s so much trust and love in this family. He listens to mom and dad because he feels safe with them.

I commend you on how you introduced her to your family, instructing them to be calm and gentle at first. I have taught Montessori education for 23 years and this is exactly how we introduce new animals to our students.

I have worked in animal welfare/animal adoptions for 15 years and have never seen an adopter as prepared as you are. Rue is very lucky to be a part of your family. If you have any questions I am happy to do my best to answer them.

i admire how jessica prepared for the puppy’s arrival and did lots of research to make sure the new pup is as comfortable as possible during this transition AND she did all this on top of caring for 5 kids AND being a home to another one on the way
I can tell by this dog's body language and behavior that she is already happy in your home! Rue won the lottery with this family with so many people to love on her and give her attention. Congrats Ballingers!! She is absolutely adorable.
If you don’t already, definitely get her a harness especially for the car just so that she has more of a seatbelt and it doesn’t put a lot of strain on her neck if you have to like slam on the brakes or anything. So excited for y’all!!
yeah doggy carseats suck! we use a doggy belt for our small-medium dogs it works awesome for both of them, we tried the carseat but we had trouble with security and jumping out of it lol!!
When I die, I want to come back as the Ballinger dog. What a nice life this dog will have!
I’m so excited to see the progress that Luke and the puppy make! My cousin who is autistic( I know it’s not the same thing as Luke’s genetic mutation) has benefited so much from having his F1b doodle. His temperament from unknown changes and mood swings last maybe 5-10 minutes tops compared to the hours it used to take to calm him down.
Animals are such great treatment options for disabilities, his doodle can even smell when he’s going to have a seizure or pass out and gives signals without any training to do so. His condition was her training and now she gives warnings just because of the bond they have.

Finally, another girl is in the family! What an adorable dog she is. Already an iconic member. And Rue is a great name.
Taking care of a puppy won't be easy and takes a lot of patience but we all know you've got this, you can tackle anything in your path.
I love sign language and learned it when i was about 3 years old. But I cannot believe Luke is already perfecting it.
Is he deaf?
Nope! But it's very beneficial to teach babies common signs, like "please," "thank you," "more," "milk,", etc. because they aren't as vocal. For Luke they except him to have a little delay or trouble with speech so it's important for him to be able to communicate.
@@kieranrafferty8726 both of my younger daughters (4 & 1) know simple signs. Like someone else said, when they are little and cannot talk yet they can use manners and have a way to communicate. 😊

YES I WAS SHOCKED
Don’t believe the lie that you should wait to start grooming until older! Start brushing and body handling ASAP so they are comfortable. You can also get them in early for a trim and nail dremel or bath so they get used to the sounds and sights of grooming. Especially with a doodle!
Note: I work at a luxury groomer and I see way too many matted and unsociable puppies come in for their first groom way too late! They are anxious, bitey and usually very loud. Takes a LOT of training to undo
Good job to the kids for being gentle with her. Even Duncan and Luke! Rue is adorable and I know she'll be very happy here!
I have some tips for you for little miss Rue!
1. Get a doggie doorbell off of Amazon so that you can train her to ring it when she wants to go out!
2. If she gets spayed if she hasn’t been already, get her a donut collar instead of the cone of shame.
3. Great job with the Parvo precautions! My puppy got parvo despite being vaccinated 😥
4. Put a blanket/towel over her kennel to let her be more calm in the kennel
Donut collar and surgery suit!!! Cone of shame is devastating for them. My dog wouldn’t even move 😖

I am sure you have been told this but make sure that as a puppy she gets used to having her paws touched and being brushed
I’ve seen many videos where dogs know when a woman is pregnant. In the car I kind of got that impression that she knows and she will grow to be protective of Jessica and the baby especially.
When my mom was pregnant our dog wouldn’t leave her side and was VERY protective of her.
Owning a puppy is no easy feat, and absolutely anything can happen which is the most stressful part, lack of control 😅
However if there is any family that can take on any task this puppy brings and give it nothing but unconditional love, it is this beautiful family!!! 🥰💞
Exactly! I have 2 older dogs (4.5y and 6yo) as well as a 3 month old puppy. Now we don’t have (can’t have) children so they are our priority. But I forgot the amount of work a puppy is in the beginning. The first few weeks you want to pull your hair out questioning all decisions. Now he’s just settled in and part of the family, but yes it’s so much work but completely WORTH IT!
Jessica: “We’re almost done with our laundry, which in our house is a big deal!”
Me, a single 25 year old with only myself and a dog to care for: “yeah all my laundry is definitely done too and there definitely aren’t two full hampers sitting in front of me right now 😬”
31 and currently live alone and I’m still there, doesn’t get better with age lol 😅😬
Surprisingly the video was 21 min long but it felt like 1. You guys are gonna be the perfect family for Ru. She will grow up to be nice and have very good manners. She is so cute and amazing when Chris scratches her. ADORABLE
hey! i love your family and your videos:) one thing that might be helpful (from a fellow dog owner) is using a harness instead of a collar to attach her leash when she is a puppy, so that her neck doesn’t accidentally get pulled or hurt her somehow as their necks aren’t very strong when they’re puppies!:)
Such a cute baby 🥰 The safest place for a dog in the car is in a kennel (gunner kennels are crash tested and the best) if a kennel is not doable then buckled in attached to a harness is the next best bet. You guys are already doing so great!!
I was going to suggest a SleepyPod crash tested harness when she gets big enough to not grow out of it. Since there are so many kids in the car I would think of crate might not fit. Totally agree that dogs should be safely contained in the car! Car safety isn't thought about enough for dogs and it's really an issue of dog and human safety both.
when I had my dog, we would hold her (she was a zouchon) so we would hold her in our arms, and if she wanted to be on the floor, we would. she would mainly stick her head out the window (while holding her).

I call my niece Ruby, Roo/Rue & Rooster, and Ruby Roo. You are welcome to borrow these wonderful nicknames if needed 😂😂😂
I had a cat named Ruby and those were all her exact nicknames. 🥰
Rooster is perfect especially because they have chickens!
Crate training is the best, fastest way to successfully housebreak your dog. I promise. It’s not cruel, it’s the most natural way to house your pup inside your human home actually. Mama dogs in the nature find small enclosures to keep their pups in to keep them safe and secure. It’ll also serve a your dogs own personal space in the house. Like you have a bedroom, that’ll be doggies “bedroom” where they can retreat to when they’ve had enough human interaction. Crate training is really very beneficial in so many ways when done right, but not to be abused and treated like a doggie prison. Even one room is really very large in their little tiny world. Please consider it ♥️
No one has ever been this ready for a puppy. You guys are awesome. You will do awesome.

Rue is adorable! I definitely recommend having a harness as an option rather that a collar, especially for walks! When I first got my dog, her collar would always pull on her neck and she’d start coughing. Now we use a harness and she’s much more happy! 😊
Oh my goodness!! I just got a golden doodle May 1st and named him Winston, but call him “Winnie” like Winnie the Pooh so Rue has a 100 Acre Wood doodle friend here in Texas!!

Just make sure not to disturb her when she is training because special needs dogs cannot be disturbed when helping their owners meaning your kids unless it’s luke cannot be around roo

Be carful with her and the chickens labs and poodles are both used for hunting so she may have a high prey drive. Most of the time if they are raised around it they are good but sometimes they still wanna get them.

Here is something VERYYYY important! When roo is in the car seat you should never ever attach it to her collar it should always be a harness. Collars choke dogs and can kill them. So always use a harness! But you can always have a collar on but like on walks you should use a harness and in the car you should use a harness :) harness= 👑
We have a golden doodle and they are honestly the best family dog in my opinion!! Loving, gentle, minimal shedding! Our pup was 1 when we brought our first baby home and they are the best of friends now! CONGRATS! It will be a great adventure
Awww so exciting! The puppy is so cute! I know you guys have a rabbit, but I would be sure to keep your bunny safe too! Not all dogs like rabbits and rabbits can get scared by just seeing the dog! I’m not an expert, but I have a bunny and two dogs and they do not get along!

You are right, most retrievers have the instinct to hunt small animals. And well, bunnies have the instinct to get away from them. But the Ballinger family keeps the bunnies in a pen when they are outside so I think they will be safe from the dog.
True, but I'm relieved to see how well behaved and quiet this puppy already is. Hopefully the rabbits won't be scared. Obviously it's important to keep them separate and supervised.

Hi Ballingers, I just wanted to say thank you for bringing me SO much joy and positivity over the last year, during the Pandemic. I have struggled with my mental and Physical health for many years and your video have helped me to overcome so many phobias and fears. And when I'm having a bad day or I'm sad, I just think of Luke cackling adorably about a door and I remember how beautiful the world can be. Glad to see you had an awesome ranch holiday!!

Props to the kids. They are totally awesome and so filled with love and respect for the puppy. I don't think even I could be that calm. The Ballingers really did something right. These kids are all amazing human beings. ♥️ And Jessica really puts so much thought,love, and preparation into everything she does. Chris was so sweet with Rue. This entire family is just awesome. Being raised in a lot of chaos and dysfunction I really enjoy watching the Ballingers because they calm my anxiety and teach me how family should be and what I'd want for my own one day. We watch you because we love you !!!
There is this great episode of Martha Speaks all about being gentle and calm with dogs, I think the little ones would really enjoy it if you think it’s something they should learn more about!

Just be sure if you put her in her car seat that you attach the “seatbelt/strap” to a harness and not a collar because if you got into an accident having so much pressure on the collar could hurt her neck more than if it was attached to a harness on her body🥰
the dog carseats arent so great, we tried them, they worked for a month before he outgrew it and started jumping out, we use a doggy seatbelt with a harness instead, so he can lay down and as he grows it will still work for him
fatima sarah. I absolutely agree! I have a seatbelt and harness for my dog as well because he is too big for a seat. I just wanted to put it out there that it is best to attach whatever restraint they use to a harness rather than a collar since it’s unsafe to strap something to their neck :)

They are like the sweetest family. They put so much care and love into everything they do, I love them all so much! Duncan is just beyond precious. They all are of course but he did so good at being calm!

omg!!! i love the doggy carseat!! we had one for our younger dog, whos a puppy but he would jump out of it, and outgrew it so fast!!!! if yall ever have a situation where she is outgrowing or jumping out of the seat, u can buy doggy seatbelts on amazon, or a barrier for the front of the car if she tries to jump in the front seat like our dogs do!!! we haven't tried the barrier, but we have doggy seatbelts which work great!!!! I'm sure rue isnt going to need any sort of car seat or belt when shes older based on how chill she is as a puppy!!! our dogs are both hyper!!!!

We use dog seat belts w/ a harness when our dogs are in the car. It attaches to the harness & then buckles into the seat belt latch where you normally would put your buckle of your seat belt. It has an adjustable length, as well. This helps keep them in the seat & they can't jump out or be thrown in case of a collision. The harness is important so they aren't choked if there was a sudden movement while in the car (sudden braking or, God forbid, a collision).

I remember when our family got our first puppy, it was a challenging, but a great time for my sister and I to learn about responsibility. Unfortunately, we lost our sweet boy to cancer during his sixth year, but he taught us a lot about patience and unconditional love. Best wishes to your family and your journey with Rue!

My favorite thing that I did when I got my SD prospect (who is now an SD) was save the collars that she outgrew and put the date that I changed it on it with masking tape. Then, when she was full-grown and the only reasons for a new collar would be cuteness and it getting dirty/old, put them in a little case with the dates and pictures of her in it. It's hanging by the entrance of my house. It is a great conversation starter and it's a good motivator to be able to look at it right before I leave the house if I'm struggling for some reason. I just look at it and see how much she's grown, and think about how much she loves working and loves me, and how I can't let her down just because I'm having some anxiety.
She is the cutest puppy ever. love you all so much. she is going to have the best life ever full of so much love and joy. i hope everything is going well with her. All of these kids are so well mannered and so smart. I am happy they have another one on the way because we need more kids like this in the world. Jessica and Chris are raising them so well
