when secretariat gave that speech. it hit, but the way you edited it made it hit even harder. this show, in my eyes, also deals with mortality. the idea that we only have so much time to make up for our wrong doings. this is by far one of my favorite shows. and this video is an example of why this show is so important. thank you.
for years I ignored the series, I didn't care for it, thought it was the average family guy like show. but a month after the show finished, I got off my ass and watched it. and I don't regret it. the only thing I regret is not watching it sooner. this damn show has broke me emotionally multiple times and never seems to stay away from my mind. As someone who struggles with severe depression, anxiety and PTSD, this show did an amazing job. Despite all of Bojacks flaws and absolute fuck ups that make you wanna punch him... you cant help but love him and relate to him. the show hits you hard with reality, it doesnt sugar coat and I adore it for that. I enjoy the tears and emotions I felt while watching the show and Im planning on watching it all again.
Not me watching bojack horseman several times and crying and crying and then going and watching bojack analyses and crying and crying and then thinking I'm done with the show and it's all over now and then...... What's this? In my recommended? Another bojack analysis? Why.... I think yes. *cries and cries*
i'm sorry you were mentally in that place and hope you have access to the support you need. sometimes it's odd where we hear the words that can change our life and i couldn't be happier that the poem got to you when it did, i hope you're in a much better place
i feel this video essay captures the essence of bojack perfectly, love everything about it ❤️ ps. the 17 minutes check gave me chills when i saw what it was
The earliest reference we get to the dinner party is actually from Doctor Champ! It's when he's telling Bojack to leave and that he's heard every story BJ has to tell. He references "The one dream where your friends and family come to a dinner party."
i cant believe this only has 6,000 views, your editing and analysis is insanely good and unique compared to other video essays I've watched. keep up the good work!!
holy crap this video essay on bjhm is one of the best one I've seen that it's become art itself I mean yea I haven't seen the show in a while, but I still rmber the show so clearly in my mind that this show will too, only become a time in a life, my life and I will pass it this video lowkey gave me a p4nic attack cause of how emotional I got form watching it, esp with earphones on where the audio feels like a bedtime story but now the bedtime story is talking bout the meaning of existence and i just wanna cry. good job!
Fantastic video essay for THE BEST tv show of the 2010’s. Consistent, well-written characters that all got their own pay-off in the end. So sad it’s over, but it was great while it was there! Love ya Bojack ❤️
"But...it's all a LIE...?" "Yeah...well... it makes me feel better" The View From Halfway Down really rubbed some raw nerves (lost 2 loved ones that way) and it's a phenomenal episode start to finish. but... the ending to Ruthie just broke me. The lies we tell ourselves to make ourselves feel better about the things that go wrong in our lives...
fucked up thing... TVFHD came out about the time mom died, and I was in a really bad place mentally. watching the last two episodes in that weird grief-stricken place, it was somehow comforting.
I come back to this series over and over again. I love watching video essays to see how it’s affected so many people’s lives. It’s truly so amazing to see the ripple of the profound impact this show left on all of us.
@@jacobsaul me too dude, me too. I'd recommend giving Mr. Robot a try (if you haven't watched it already). There's a lot of similarities between the two shows, themetically aswell.
this is,,,, it. i suspected i might cry based on the title alone bc of all the concepts to hit me hard in bojack, this is the one that hits the hardest of them all for me. because no matter what else the show might be about, it is always going to be a time in a life and there will always be choices of where to begin telling the story. mentioning the fact that this show itself is now a time in the lives of the people working on the show brings a level of realism and self-reflection that is hard for me to sit with. the time period that this show was releasing new episodes, and the time period that i was watching episodes for the first time, it's all a time that i feel so hopelessly nostalgic for. and that was just a time in my life. and the people in my life come and go over time. and regretting my lack of appreciation for the present moment doesn't actually help me appreciate anything. i'm gonna keep crying if i sit here writing more and i have shit to do, so i'll just end by saying thank you for making this. i'm sure i'll come back to it later and cry some more over days past
I’ve re-watched this over three different times and I still never get tired of hearing you’re voice. I really hope that you continue to make more in the future
I started watching this show a few years ago, but gave up after a few episodes. The characters didn't really click with me and the jokes were a bit predictable. However, I kept seeing great reviews and decided to give it at least a season. Towards the end of the season I was hooked, and I'm so glad I gave it another chance. I have never felt about a show the way I feel about BJH.
this editing is absolutely incredible! i’m so glad i took the time to watch this!! so well made, so well narrated!! i’m absolutely inspired! thank you for your efforts
What a great video. I love this show and I am always looking for new perspectives on it. I feel like I finally found a analysis that I can completely agree with. A big thank you from Germany!
this video essay almost brought me to tears - its been a couple months since i (finally) finished the show and this essay was a perfect analysis of the key themes of this incredible piece of text as well - highlighting to me how relatable some of bojacks' struggles truly are. as a media student i see this as an exemplar piece to analyse because its so well written and theres just soo many avenues you can go down with it. thank you for sharing your obvious talent with this essay
@@jacobsaul I'm back! This wasn't a silly video at all, it was a fantastic analysis and you shed light on the show's themes and characters really well!! I really enjoyed it. Man I'm gonna miss the show though

the beginning with the poem and the scene of secretariat at the bridge gave me a whole new perspective
What new perspective did it give you?
@@tmaxim2651 the view from halfway down
The 17 minute note caught me off guard. It was so much timed passed. 17 minutes
This show broke me but in a good way
And bad way for me lmao
Yeah in the beautiful kind of way like kintsugi where the breaks in the pot get filled with gold for a greater level of beauty
12:39 "It's a "See you later" and that "later" never comes." I like that line.

The worst thing about being halfway down is that you know that there's still another halfway down before you hit rock bottom.
