Pretty sure you mounted the brackets backwards. Based on the manual the swinging handle portion should be on the back-facing side, not the front-facing side.

They’re great looking cargo boxes! Enjoy it. The nylon strings are just to tone down the wind noise. Now that you have the box, shouldn’t really need it imo.
Hey man, somehow I missed this comment. I can't comment on gas mileage as I don't drive as much anymore. A tank still last us almost a month+ As far as wind noise - yup its definitely there, above 60mph. Even at 55 you start hearing it but imo not bad. The design, I think, helps. alot. Definitely not as bad as driving the car with only the roof bar attached (without the nylon strings. hack)
