When filling a hole with a MIG welder, hold a piece of copper behind the hole. The weld won’t stick to the copper and the copper will keep the molten metal from dropping through the hole. The copper also acts as a heat sink to keep the thin metal from getting too hot.
Love how authentic you are. Showing your progress from your first welds to your latest. What you are doing is not easy and it gives me the confidence to try things. For that I thank you.
You're learning, never ever apologize for that. Most will never try at all. The skills will come as long as you keep practicing, so hang in there and don't feel discouraged.
Weld stuff from the scrap pile before working on projects. Once you learn to read the puddle, bam all of a sudden it clicks. When you aren’t worrying about screwing up the project, you can relax and it is so much less stressful. There are a certain number of feet (or yards) of bad welds everyone makes, so when you can have fun and play on scrap you wind up spending less time, energy and angst in the long run.
This! I don't weld regularly in my job, but when I have to do it I always warm up on some scrap metal first. Only takes a few minutes, but can potentially save hours of struggle.
Semi-pro tip; If you know the metal is non structural, getting paint and want to save some time and welding wire, a light skim coat of bondo does wonders to take care of any low spots found after grinding. Can't wait to see how the interior turns out once the paints on!
Sarah, do not apologise for your efforts as a beginner. Every journey starts with the first step. Many do not take that first step because of the fear of failure. Hang in there! Skill will come!
I have not tried to arc weld in years. However, my last attempt was "acceptable" because the angle brackets on my vise stand worked quite well. What I said in the above coment applies to any endeavor, not just welding.
Don't apologize for ANYTHING about your channel. We are here for the journey and learning along the way. And please please please keep your hair wrapped up under a hat with that gokart!!!!
Love it Sarah. You're doing better than you think. One suggestion, practice welding on a table where you're comfortable. Unless you fabricate for a living, no one does great work all contorted in a little car. And, you've chosen one of the hardest jobs to learn on with that thin ass metal. You'll get there!
Most people learning a new skill do so in the privacy of their workspace. You get major props for showing all of us the trials and tribulations... gutsy! What you already excel at is the skill of measuring and transferring the patterns to metal... that skill is beyond me... no patience. No apologies for the pace of work, the value of your content comes from your creativity, personality, and awesome production skills. Hope your cold isn’t kicking your butt! 😎
You're doing really work Sarah and I believe we all respect you for trying all these task. I think I speak for most of us that we just enjoy all your videos no matter how fast of slow things are going.
“ I can’t poop out project cars....”. Well Sarah, we don’t expect you to. Just keep doing what you’ve been doing, We’re just along for the ride. You’re the one doing all the work. Thank you for sharing.
You should never apologize for your work or how long it takes we love you videos or we wouldn't watch them . Keep up the great work and who cares how long it take . We love you.
3:51 Bañana! You're doing a great job and we're rooting for you Sarah. Don't worry about ANYTHING - we love what you do, that's why we're here. Take care & get some R & R, too. All the best, Rob
Dear Sarah, you have such a nice voice, vocal data. Recommending your channel to the friends and others, who are studying an English, or willing practice listening skills from a native speaker.
the only welding I ever did was connecting three pieces of iron bar to make a planter. It held together but looked like crap. Much respect to the pros who can do this for a living
Hey for jumping in and just doing it without formal training dont be hard on yourself as you do more you'll get better, and you have no need to apologize for anything or to anyone, we are behind you cheering you on. You are doing excellent you are excellent and it's fun watching your videos. Again you have no need to apologize we love you just the way you are and if there are haters in the comments focus on the ones that are encouraging.
Have you noticed how supportive the comments are to you? I have followed you prior to this channel and love to see your channel grow, your channel is close to booming. Keeping cracking on matey, keep doing what you enjoy 👍❤️
Hey this is how you learn , after this you'll be a master welder. love your videos and your hard work. For all those people who want to be criticize, they won't even try .
This video shows why those shows on Velocity or Motor Trend are a complete joke-- it takes quite a while for even an experienced fabricator to patch, shape weld and cut body panels. Those shows make you think you can pull a scrap heap from the junkyard and completely restore it in a week, with enough down time for stupid infighting. This video is showing the real deal. GREAT job Sarah keep it going!
Learning how to weld is a steep learning curve, but keep it up. You will be a master fabricator once this WRC car is built. It is so cool how you will just get after it and do whatever you need to do which I luv about you. Your content is always entertaining and a great watch. That shop is so damn cool, wish I had one.
Never apologize for "taking too long" or "how much work" something is for the sake of "video production" or pacifying "fans". Eff that. Learn, grow, and document it as you are doing - that's what matters and why your channel is interesting!
I could be just me, but you seem very happy in your new shop space, with Jefff and neighbors. And, I think go carts is a genius idea! Have fun and mod one out to kick some serious a**! Finally, your welding skills are much better than mine, so don’t worry about it. Welding is an art that takes time to master. Thank you for the videos!
One thing that does help when you're filling holes in sheet metal with weld is to hold a piece of copper or aluminum against the back of the area if accessible. It helps support the weld and draws heat away as well.
Sarah, you're amazing. I moved into my new apartment and the very first thing I watched was this video and let me just say, we're all blessed to be able to see your content. Complete run on sentence hehe!
Briggs & Stratton were made in the USA. Currently they are in financial difficulty which is sad because their engines were great. You are already a better welder than I am. Go for it, Sarah.
On the large panels you could pop rivet them on, or use a sheet metal screw, That way you could get access to the inside in case something in there need repair or you need to route wires. Plus it's quicker and neater than welding.
OMG Sarah !!! you are an inspiration for those of us who are afraid to do something new. Keep going, "Never Give-up, Never Surrender". Please do not paint your Go-Kart Hot Barbie Pink... I think The Green Hornet colors would be perfect.
Doin great! Take your time and soak in the experience. Everything has a learning curve. Biggest thing to remember about welding sheet metal is minimizing heat warping. It sounds counterproductive but the best way to weld in a thin metal panel like that is actually lots of tack welds that eventually all meet. Alternating sides to keep heat from building up and warping the panel. ;)
Tips for Future Work Bench: Machinist Vices w/ assortment of soft jaws or soft jaw extentions. C Clamps and a couple 10" Wood Screw Clamps. Those the 3 things that totally changed shop life for me. Rock on Sarah! (was gonna mention the "too much heat" on a few of the welds, but you'll figure it out)
I love your content, Sarah. I love watching someone learn new skills and create new things. I’m loving all these projects and I totally admire the work you put into them. It’s why I watch all the ads and will continue to do so.
OMG you made a Futurama joke/reference. You just got so much better in mind (even though I did not think it was possible). Futurama is my favorite show and Thank you for that.
Lady! Your welds look a lot better than mine! I once welded an engine block that had a rod thrown through it! (OMG!) I'm glad no one saw that awful mess! I filled the gaps with (get this!) GASKET SEALER!!!! It was hilarious! I actually got that engine to run and drive! Then I gave the car away! LOL! Love your video, Sarah! Give Jefff a treat for me, will ya?
I absolutely love Sarah, you're the best! You make me want to get a project car, unfortunately being an OTR truck driver i can't. I shall live vicariously through you and your videos. Keep up the great work, you're the best!
So i weld heavy steel for a living and have for a couple decades now. like many others, i started at the the bottom and made plenty of mistakes. since then ive gotten pretty confident in my skills and i do my work very well. The same will be said for what you are doing here. you'll make a ton of mistakes and itll make you better. for a while itll makes you nuts too. Keep it up Sarah, you'll get there. Look forward to watching you progress and start to master your future skills.
I love your videos. I could watch you watch ice melt and know you would have something sarcastic to say. I doesn't matter to me if you are learning while filming, i know in the long run you'll be the best damn welder we've ever seen because you care about your viewers and are doing it for us. I Like to believe I'm your biggest fan but 100 other people will say the same. I guess what I'm saying is just keep going no matter what because you bring joy to a lot of people. Love you!!
I’m so proud of you, girlie! Isn’t it so much fun?!?!? (Even if it’s exhausting) you’re doing a great job! ❤️❤️ I love seeing more of us women welding and metal working! ❤️❤️
Building a car is much different than fixing up cars. It takes massive time and a lot of trial and error. Keep paying attention to where the fuel tank, lines, and the vent are as you weld on different areas. Also, if you get close to any moving part, henge, window mech. or any bushings, be careful not to get them too hot and ruin. The angle grinder will 100% at some point rip a piece of sheet metal out of your hand. If it cuts a tendon, you loose 50% moment of one arm. Just FYI. If the weld is structurally sound and you are covering with paint, just fill tiny wholes with 2part epoxy, grind sand to smooth. Never waste time trying to polish a turd.
Learning how to weld in my job...I KNOW EXACTLY how you feel Sarah. Because you dont have a tactile feel of what you doing and its very hard to see aswell its basically a instinct and practice issue. My welds looks like apocalyptic popcorn got glued on the metal most of the time... Keep it going !we will keep watching!
One of the best things about your videos is that you document the mistakes along the way, and help us all become more confident taking leaps. Thanks.
yeah too many people think TH-camrs are the best at what they do and should only show flawless stuff. Pfft that is so bs
DON'T GIVE UP!! You're learning just like the rest of us and when your project is done, you'll be happy in your mind and heart. 👍
We all have to begin somewhere, thats how we get experienced in what we do, you're doing a great job Sarah
Well said.
You're learning, never ever apologize for that. Most will never try at all. The skills will come as long as you keep practicing, so hang in there and don't feel discouraged.

What was the result of what you last welded?
I have not tried to arc weld in years. However, my last attempt was "acceptable" because the angle brackets on my vise stand worked quite well. What I said in the above coment applies to any endeavor, not just welding.
Most people don't know how to weld... PERIOD! Learn something new, and have fun with it!
Don't apologize for ANYTHING about your channel.

the fact that you can hold that nibbler and metal in your hands to do the work is fantastic.
Don’t be so down on yourself, the work you’ve done is awesome.👍👍👍👍

Practice makes perfect Ms. Sarah. With anything, you learn by doing and learning from your mistakes. Great work so far!!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Dear Sarah, you have such a nice voice, vocal data. Recommending your channel to the friends and others, who are studying an English, or willing practice listening skills from a native speaker.
I love how you're not afraid to take on anything. You're a bad ass!!
Don't be too hard on yourself, Sarah - Loving the rally-car build!
welding is something that takes practice. and welding on sheet metal is even more tricky. Keep it up. You'll become a master fabricator in no time.
Welding is all about practice practice practice. You will get better as you go.
the only welding I ever did was connecting three pieces of iron bar to make a planter. It held together but looked like crap. Much respect to the pros who can do this for a living
No need to apologize. I’m enjoying learning about all the items you work on. Love this channel! Stay safe!

There is nothing cooler than connecting two pieces of metal with fire!
"A grinder and paint make me the welder I ain't" - Lucky Costa
You are doing absolutely fine, don't change a thing. Learning as you are doing......
Sarah, I love the random stuff you do in the line of work. So refreshing, educative and entertaining! Much Love Ma!
Makes me smile, seeing someone expanding their mind. Trying new things, and learning along the way!! That's very motivating!!
You got this girl. Your 1 million percent correct the only way to learn is to keep trying it and learning from any mistakes.
Hey this is how you learn , after this you'll be a master welder. love your videos and your hard work. For all those people who want to be criticize, they won't even try .
Everyone started somewhere the only difference between you and them is you are showing your learning curve. Just keep after it it will come

You don't have to apologize when you are rocking it!
On this 0.23 wire is great on thin sheet metal ,you doing OK 👌
Yesss I love Codsworth progress!
VERY impressive on the nubbler cutting, especially doing it freehand. A skill far beyond me!
I really like that go kart too. It's minimalist.
You're right for the go-kart , shiny metal flake gold or purple paint job would be sick! 👍💛💜 maybe with the retro helmet to go with it too! 😆
You ROCK chick don't get down on yourself, you got this. and I believe in you

Briggs & Stratton were made in the USA. Currently they are in financial difficulty which is sad because their engines were great. You are already a better welder than I am. Go for it, Sarah.
I'm old and just now taking a welding class, bucket list
On the large panels you could pop rivet them on, or use a sheet metal screw, That way you could get access to the inside in case something in there need repair or you need to route wires. Plus it's quicker and neater than welding.
Sarah you are so legit. It’s inspiring to see your work!
Rock on, Sarah. Keep learning by doing.

You are doing just fine always entertaining 😊
One of the best things about you getting the shop Sarah was the kickass friends/team next to you to help and learn from.
Loved using the nibbler in Autobody shop in High School.
Bravely taking on new challenges.
ADVENTURE !
I love the way you show your learning curve, mistakes make us better!!
No need to apologise, your welding is on point. Love your creativity!!👍🏻👍🏻
I absolutely love Sarah, you're the best! You make me want to get a project car, unfortunately being an OTR truck driver i can't. I shall live vicariously through you and your videos. Keep up the great work, you're the best!
Thats how you realized how much labor there is behind Project Binky :)
You are a rock star! Hardest working person on TH-cam!
No apology necessary your just awesome!
Sarah you are awesome, no fear no limits.

We're learning right along with you Sarah, at least in theory. It's fun watching you learn the in's and out's of car fabrication.
Great job! Never give up!
You're doing great Sarah.
