Todd could never come across as a jerk. I see a lot of people complaining about having to put in the work. Or saying they didn't know it would be so hard and they just give up on things. I think people who want this lifestyle have to really do their homework and see just how much time and effort it takes.

The way you both respect & love one another shows when you are working together & even sometimes alone the beautiful comments you both make is just wonderful. Now get up & get that tree finished hahaha. Cheers Denise- Australia

Todd is right, so many people want the results but not the work! We just expanded our garden, planted fruit trees, planted fruit bushes, and we got chickens. The work truly never stops.

I didn’t think you were rude or anything Todd, you’re right, if we want something nice, we have to take care of it and that requires lots of work. And I loved the way you checked to see if we were ok!! That was so sweet! I love the relationship you two have with each other!! Must be the way God wants couples to be! Bless you two!!

The work done on a homestead leaves a body with a very different type of tired, sore muscles, aching back, all a very good, rewarding, productive kind of tired, in my thinking.

The work is definitely part of the lifestyle at any scale, I'm only small scale but it was lots of work to setup and more still to maintain but thats just part of it, if you don't do the work you can't get any of the benefits. You are too sweet Todd. You are not in anyway coming across as a jerk. Don’t over think it. What you said is true and valid and needs to be said because people have an unrealistic view of homesteading. They think it’s super easy and it’s not. You are right, it’s hard work. It’s a different lifestyle. You were not in any way being harsh or rude on how you presented the information.

You know Todd, you're absolutely right. I live in Canada, which is always portrayed as having a small population in proportion to landmass. The reality is that very, very little of that landmass is available to Canadian citizens. At least 80% of Canadian land is owned by the Canadian Cattleman's Association, Large Agribusiness, Oil & Coal Companies, and Developers. It is severely difficult to get Land Rights in Canada, and, you definitively do not have the rights to your own land when it comes to resource development. In fact, you can't even dig a pond to feed your own Cattle in Canada without a Permit issued by whatever jurisdiction you are under ( rainwater is a 'Crown Crop' in Canada and illegal to collect without a permit). One would think this would upset/bother Canadians; but, it truly doesn't. Those who have money buy acreages with perfectly manicured lawns, insecticide sprayed properties, and, are hostile against anyone who believes in the integrity of maintaining a viable ecosystem. I live in the Foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, and I can't support you enough. Everyone who speaks with honesty and integrity from the heart plant's a seed. Don't EVER, EVER apologize for speaking the truth. Love your commitment to one another, your family, and keeping the belief in this lifestyle alive. You do honestly make a huge difference!

Some folks work a 9 to 5 office job....they complain too. But no matter your job, your daily choices, if you enjoy the end result all is right in your world. Slice up one of those smaller branches. Just coin size....then write on it “round to it”.....hand out to each other as needed!

The work is hard and there is plenty of it but when we come back to center throughout the day it just doesn’t seem like so much work. Its a really satisfying life. We started a bit late bc we wanted to have our house rehabbed before starting the work with our land and other building. The work and wait paid off and we retired debt free and happy as clams with what we’ve done and excited about what lies ahead.

But everyday we enjoy it and take care to sit and enjoy!!!

I’m what you would consider “middle age” and I agree with you. Seems like some of the younger folks just expect things to be given to them with no work involved in their part. I have family members that are wanting me to just allow them to build a house on the property that we worked so hard to buy. They are in their early 20’s and don’t want to do the work called “life”. 🙄

I've seen deer on their hind legs eating apples and tree leaves. If they want peaches, they will have no problem reaching most of what you were showing. With that in mind, I would not thin them. While you would expect to get larger peaches if you thinned them, you will get more if not thinned, and will hopefully still have some left if the deer forage them.
I love watching the fruits ripen and harvesting them. I miss my acreage.

I don't know how you can do so much, and make it so rewarding. I love watching how you have pulled it all together at the end of a season and cooking up what you have worked so hard to grow. I am glad that you can get some time in to get away for a weekend. You even bring us along! ;-) I use to do the gardening part, but now just the canning and freezing, then cooking. as far as getting away with the lock down I have really enjoyed your getting away. getting out in nature is always a bonus. Hi! I love your channel and I learn a lot :) I just wanted to let you know that pheasant back mushrooms are best eaten when very young. Less than the size of your palm is when they are prime. Sometimes a little bigger is ok but you will know when cutting it. Any resistance means it will be tough and inedible. We call it bacon of the woods because when sliced, fried in butter and seasoned with salt, it tastes a lot like bacon, lol! Let us know if you end up finding more and maybe make a cooking video about it!

Great video. I know people who want to live the way do cause they have some romantic idea what its like. However, like you said, they are not willing to go out every year and cut and stack 8 cords of wood, or have to use a outhouse when the power is off for 24 hours. They arent willing to do the hard work to get to the goal. Even though we are both in our 60's we are still doing it, its not quite as easy as it was when we were 40, but we love this life style and living in town or a city is not what either one of us want anytime soon. Thanks again you guys. Love your channel, you always make me smile..

Very good video. You two are very good together. I also loved the sitting down and talking to one another towards the end. I saw no complaining of hard work. Or of Todd being a jerk. Keeping the homestead tidy is hard work. And you are correct you could have left the tree where it was. But then when you did get around to taking it down which you would have at some point due to it landing on your fence. The grass would have grown up and tangled into the branches and it would have been a mess. You make me want to get out there in my yard and tackle stuff. I'm on a 1/8 of an acre in a subdivision and have nothing to tackle but you make me want to. Lol. Thank you. Thank you for sharing your lives with us. I have been watching your videos back to back.

I make wine - I tell people they have to come to share a bottle - its my way of getting people to come visit us on the farm. Since we live out in the middle of no where - its my please come visit card. =)

In the summer, we literally use it almost daily. It's a back saver for sure.

This is so a homestead built on love. You two though. Truthfully though it is work, but building a life made of dreams is so worth the pains in the shoulder or back, and it's not all the time things like this happen. Todd I didn't think you came off in that manner, you were just saying its a lot of work to maintain to have such a nice well maintained homestead..

Several years ago we had neighbors that mowed late at night with headlights-🤷‍♀️so annoying and so strange! We called them our vampire neighbors 🤪
We noticed as spring hit that one of our huge beautiful trees didn’t bud 😩it’s dead-hubs took out what he could but need help with the rest so we don’t land on the fence. Our oldest son has worked for a tree removal service every summer thru high school-now that we need it he is in air force several states away🤪

Exactly the same reasons here. And my only homemade item i don't share is cherry jam, I make only a few small jars a year and consume it carefully. Mama don't share that. Lol
