I have 1970 Yamaha rd350. I alway see oil drops hanging at bottom on couple of big bolts (in the center). How do i find out where it's leaking from? or any know source?
the two black circles to the sides of the neutral safety switch, are those seals or plugs? My left side is leaking transmission oil and i want to replace all seals on that side.
I think they are plugs. The seals on the left that I know are, sprocket seal, neutral switch seal, clutch push rod seal. Try replacing these and see if the leak stops!
@@seventiesmetal8673 Thank you! your videos are very helpful. i hope you make more. Its hard to find content for the RDs and i just picked up a 1973 250 i'm trying to get running 100% and your videos have helped alot.
Hi Vivek! A seal with tears/cracks definitely needs replacing. In my case, the seal had no tears/cracks but had become brittle and rigid due to long term storage in garage and oxidation. But you cant tell if a seal has become brittle and rigid just by looking at it, you should take it out and try bending it. On the other hand, if you have gone through the trouble of taking out a seal for checking, you as well might replace it with a new one. So, the ultimate identification for a seal change is running a finger around the seal and feeling for oil wetness, which is what i did. I don't think a bad sprocket seal leads to noise, it will definitely lead to an unwanted oil puddle underneath your motorcycle.
@@seventiesmetal8673 ok, i'm already up to my elbows in mine. so theoretically i should be done before you get a video complete and uploaded. that's the dream. i'll subscribe though! looks like a lot of good reference material for things i haven't touched yet. thanks!
Hi , I have a Rd350 1984 model engine build in 2011 , but now when I want to change gear oil my mechanic advising me to go for 20w 40 / 20w 50 mineral ,pls advice n if possible elaborate
Hi Arun! I am using 10w30 as I am living in a cold country like Sweden where temp can go below 0 and highest temp is 25. So, I need oil that is viscous at this temp range. But hot countries like India need another grade oil as temp is not that low but can get very high. So, I recommend you take your mechanics advice and also read up on oil viscosity grading www.rymax-lubricants.com/blog/what-does-5w-30-actually-mean/
I am unable to open the front sprocket using your method, Iam missing some intermediate step that you have not mentioned/skipped in your video

How to identify if this seal requires a change? Any noise you get?

Have you had to change crankshaft seals yet?
No, I am in the process of rebuilding my engine. Will change the crank seals then. Will upload the video when I do it.

@@nsrinivasanrao44 Hi; no oil with friction modifiers. Any 30W or limited slip clutch appropriate oil will be safe. Suitable for wet clutch.
