Wait what, Grounder has dragon blood running through him? I thought it was bog-standard gas.

Poor Draco, she's so cute. Been addicted to this song because of Puyo Puyo Tetris, pretty cool to hear it throughout all the years. I think the one from Mean Bean Machine is the best, too bad it's unused!!
carma No, it has slightly different use of drum and bass, like all the MBM versions of PP1 songs.
they use it in the cast call
I haven't known about it because I have played mean bean machine and its sega's first rom hack.
To be honest I didn't know mean bean machine was a hack of puyo puyo until I looked it up.

Agreed! Just came here from a Rally Mode Video (I think it was Puyo Puyo 2?) And Draco was Stage 30 out of a possible 33. They made the precious dragon into a real toughie there, as she deserves to be!

So many ways of beating up Draco. :D
Oh, and one for Grounder, apparently.

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine exists. I assure you.
Yeah, but this theme doesn't play during that.

All of the different types of Puyos are different shapes. That's how you can easily differentiate between them.

I feel bad for Draco. She just dies everytime and it’s sad that she can’t rotate 😔
Given that SEGA was the one that kind of made that game since it was on their arcade hardware, I would not be surprised if their systems replicate it the best. Also, the Mega Drive just sounds FAR more badass in comparison to the others. Even the Game Gear sounds better than most of them do. If the Saturn had the first game, I bet it would have sounded far superior if they aimed for simply upping the sound quality in place of remixing it and simply making a straight port of the arcade version with no altercations whatsoever aside from extra menu settings.
Medachod Which mega drive version do you think sounds best? PuyoPuyo or Mean Bean Machine?
+Espee, Oh, original for sure. I consider what MBM did like somebody painting a bigger smile on Mona Lisa cause the original doesn't look good enough.
But besides that, the drums they use feel overbearing and they made it louder so that it downplays the rest of the instrumentation altogether.
It's still a good game in its own right, but I don't like comparing it to the original since it feels strange that they had to re-skin it at all to me.
Medachod Ok, the track ended up going unused anyway.
+Espee, Cause they reworked it into the credits theme instead. It's not unused, they just changed it up.
The overall theme itself is just catchy and good, and there’s so many versions, and probably 95% of them are all good.
I personally prefer the megadrive and game gear version of theme of puyo puyo and the remix for the anniversary games is good as well
Same here! If ya ever got either of the online versions, I would play ya! I still play this game quite often.
1:07 Looks like she got surprised
I really like Puyo 20th's version
as well as the saturn one and the original Mega drive version
and the PS1 version
@@Wizzkidwas Puyo forever!
Theme tune aside...you are probably the best puyo player I’ve ever seen!
11:39 is my favorite theme. It sounds like it belongs in a Hyperdimension Neptunia OST. Also, in general, they should make a Hyperdimension Neptunia version with the bean combo formula style of game. That would make me very happy. It would have every main villain from the series.
The Mega Drive version is still the best.
scwt89 yes I like the Super Famicom but the megadrive version is better
The Modern Era destroys the Classic, Modern is the Best
the FM towns version almost sounds like it was made with the pokémon RSE soundfront
Such a good track. Always tends to pop into my head time to time for no reason, but man do I love Arle's theme. XD
(Makes me wonder how a remix would sound if Arle was added in Smash. XD doubt it, but considering the slew of characters Ultimate got, who knows? XD)
That jazz cover is so hecking smooth.
The theme just says "puyo puyo" i feel it..
*shigu*
3:56 you forgot about the ending theme of dr robotnik's mean bean machine
The original Genesis version and the PC Engine version are probably my favorites here.
I grew up on Dr. Robotnik's mean bean machine
sooo... how do you play the original gameboy version?
Espee quite easily if you're using the colour / super gameboy
The puyos have four different shapes.
You don't
[VUT] Windows XP TWO
In the console versions of sun there’s an option to disable puyo colors completely
With your eyes and hands, presumably.
Me: * plays Sonic Mania *
Sonic Mania: *this*
so, rather than simply saying which version is my favorite, here are my thoughts on each version:
Genesis: classic version that everyone knows.
Game Gear: simple, yet charming. one of my personal favorites.
NEC: literally just a compressed version of the original.
Mean Bean Machine: literally just the original, just with heavier percussion and some slight changes in instrumentation.
SFC: sounds pretty nice, but the sample used for the lead at the beginning is a bit lacking.
PC Engine: simple like the game gear, yet somehow sounds worse. not to say i thought it was bad, just not as good as some of the others.
GB: the Game Boy's limitations REALLY didn't do this song any favors. or the game itself, for that matter.
FM Towns: sounds AWESOME starting off, but the pitch slides are a bit... unnecessary.
other than that, this is EASILY one of my favorites!
Saturn: WAY different, but not necessarily bad. i personally really like it!
Ketteiban: baseline and percussion are AWESOME; but the pitch slides REALLY turn me off on this one, even more so than the FM Towns version.
BOX: tries to be the original, but doesn't quite nail it.
15th: amazing, and a HUGE step in the right direction in terms of modernization!
20th: takes what 15th did and improves upon it even more! truly excellent!
The 20th anniversary version was used in Puyo puyo Tetris on the Switch!
my name's schezo wedgy, and i'm not a pervert.
Nicely done
There’s also another unused version in one of the PC Engine CD games.
“The name’s Schezo Wegey, and I’m not a pervert.”
- Schezo Wegey, 20??
Today exactly 35th year jubilee from day when TETRIS game was published in June 6,
1984 by scientist of Academy of Science of the USSR Alexey Pajitnov.
As a GIFT to this event we created YUMMY TETRAMINO puzzle game based on tetris bricks but with new "square root" rules and in-game hints.
Congratulation to author and all fans of TETRIS with JUBILEE! :)
The original Genesis & Game Gear versions are great.
I also like the Mean Bean Machine version, and the Puyo Puyo BOX version.
I think my favorite version, isn't here, though... from Puyo Puyo Tetris, track 9.
It's similar to the 15th and 20th anniversary versions, but just a bit more refined and has an overall more exciting vibe to it.
I believe this song's in PP Tetris, too, heard in the Puyo Puyo portion of Swap games (with Tetris's A-Type theme kicking in for the Tetris part).

Unlike the previous fools, I play for keeps!
Talk is cheap, prepare for battle!
Question Mark Boi Probably not an intelligent life form.
Question Mark Boi Honestly, I don’t like how the official arcade translation isn’t accurate to the japanese. I wish someone would make a hack of the Genesis version and translate it truly.
Why was this game modified for its US release?

I got a regular game boy but it doesn't matter. Just be thankful of what you have.
the gameboy version looks impossibel to play
why were you setting up a tetris in puyo puyo cd
WOW you make this look easy...
20th Anniversary is later used in Puyo Puyo Tetris and Puyo Puyo Champions.
Wow, the only modern one that sounds at least fairly good is the PSP version...
Also, I thought playing Puyo Puyo Tsuu on the Gameboy was a nightmare, but hell, Puyo Puyo 1 is even worse!
I'm pretty sure the dr.robotnik's mean bean machine version was used in the credits when the characters are shown.
No, that's a different rendition.
Like nothing beats the original
Draco is so adorable, why bulli
The end to clicky drums in Puyo Puyo music started with a Sonic game
Beating Draco can't be even more insulting than this
Is this song buried within Kirby's Ghost Trap/Kirby's Avalanche, the western version of Super Puyo Puyo?
What about Puyo Pop for the GBA? Or did that not have the theme(I would be shocked, but idk)
Puyo Pop uses the soundtrack from another puyo game, so it probably sounded the exact same
Puyo Pop for GBA used the Puyo Puyo 2 soundtrack (although "GBA-ified"), so it didn't have this theme as far as I'm aware.
There's a version for Windows 95. I've been trying to track it down because I wanna hear this theme as an official MIDI.
you didnt use the Cast theme from mean bean machine?
It was probably deemed too different for practical use in this video. Unlike the Sega-era version, that one has a far greater difference in arrangement.
+sonicboy678, It was still the theme, though. I feel it was worthy for this video since the Anniversary games also remix it quite heavily.
Not really. The only significant changes are the opening and the bridge into the loop.
Well it does have missing notes and a different bass and treble style
I'm became shocked, when i saw Dr. R's mean bean machine (Grounder) in that video.
Duh Fuq? They actually made a Game Boy version? Since the game is about matching colors. It's really hard to tell the difference between those beans. At least the Game Gear version looks way better.
Mr. Atari 26
And that's why the “Pocket” version of Sun and Yo~n can only be played on Game Boy Color.
The Puyos are different shapes, so I guess that's how you're supposed to play it without color.
Sun can also be played on DMG and SGB. Multiplayer uses a multi tap on the latter. @@netako

Personal Favorites:
- Mega Drive [yes I live in the USA so I should be calling it the Genesis, but I like international names, ok?]
- Super Famicom [easily one of my favorite versions of the original puyo puyo]
- PSOne Puyo Puyo Tsu Ketteiban
- Puyo Puyo BOX [It's like the classic, but with a new soundfont.]
- Nintendo DS

4:14 Shoulda picked Sqweel (Stage 6) for MBM tbh. He's the biggest pain, to take down, in it.
(MAY 2020 EDIT: Actually, wouldn’t ‘Arms’ or ‘Dragon Breath’ have been better for Dr R’s MBM? ‘Arms’ uses Draco’s difficulty, and moveset, but ‘Dragon Breath’ plays to the Dragon jokes.)
Side note: Dongurigaeru is goodest boi, But Draco is best gorl, especially in her story in Puyo SUN. If you know, you know.
How tf do you play puyo puyo on a black and white screen?
*Oshi has left the chat*
I wasn’t expecting anyone mention Oshi
More important question: Is it "poi-yo" like the characters say in the Japanese version, or "pu-yo," like in the English version?
Late, but it’s pronounced “pu-yo” in both languages...?
That's what I thought, but it sounds so different in the arcade versions! Maybe it's just the weird VA...?
Probably; they don’t even pronounce it “puyopuyo”, they say “pyopyong”. “Puyo Puyo” is, iirc, onomatopoeia for the sound a blob makes in Japanese. It’s spelled ぷよぷよ (puyopuyo) so...it’s definitely “pu-yo”.
Yeah, that definitely sounds more reasonable, just kinda shows how bad the limited amount of English there was in that arcade game's dub...
It sounded more like a string snapping whenever the title screen came on.
draco is still best girl
