Here are 5 sweep picking exercises that I think are useful for both practicing and playing. You can expand these concepts to incorporate cool sweep runs in your solos. If you'd like to learn sweep picking, check out the video I posted last week, and subscribe for more free guitar lessons. Cheers!

I wanted to say that since I was a kid I dreamed of being able to sweep pick. I had learned most other techniques but could never sweep, no matter how hard I practiced. At the start of lockdown I came across this video and decided to just practice the shapes once a day. A few months on and one of my biggest goals on guitar has been unlocked and I don't think I could have done it without this video. I can not express how happy this has made me, thank you so much.

Don’t know how relevant this is but bro learn your major scale and your minor scale and boom now you can play in any key just move it! Once you have it memorized come back and learn how to sweep, you’ll understand how the sweep patterns fit into the scale and outline chords. Also learn your triads and how to tap! These are all modern day essentials. Good luck on your journey friend, and never give up!!

Because you’re being drawn into the quicksand of the non-soulful shred. I was a victim of this demon as well for a long time so I can recognize it. People that play like the guy in this video seem to be truly amazing because they play skills and sequence is literally perfect. But unlike the original Eddie Van Halen, there is no personality. However, with all that said, I do come here to learn skills and techniques to add to my Eugene trick box.

Man, Im amazed by this strange high quality content and your quite low audience ratio... All those other big guitar channels give exercises that are either too complicated to figure out, or too boring/easy to be worth doing for someone who is trying to become more advanced player. This video is something that works perfectly for me. Right in the middle. Been doing theese exercises for a couple of weeks, they helped me to visualize the scale better and to improve my sweep picking. Your videos are so satisfying to watch. Put some work to promotion!!!! You should be among those big channels. Cheers.

This video reminds me of why I hate guitarists explaining what they're doing "Ok guys, so I start with the fourth finger on the 10th fret of the 5th string. So I pick downwards and then the next note I go to play is the bla blah blah." Dude, just show the tab above and play slow once fast once, just like the guy in the video.

As a gtr teacher I can tell you the last thing students need is more exercises. Just like an athlete, they need coaching (not tips) on the physical aspects of actually playing the instrument. Pro golf instructors don't say "here's a bucket of balls, hit two of these a day and let me know how you do...". That's what TH-camr guitar guys do; "here's a bunch of magical exercises, play them everyday and let me know how you do".

Awesome video. I’ve been playing guitar for over 20 years and sweep picking was always the technique that I found impossible. Your video has really helped me to unlock this technique and by doing these exercises each day really does work wonders. Another useful tip guys to get that fluid sound is to use the neck pickup. Sounds basic but it makes a huge difference when sweeping with the neck pickup rather than than the bridge. Just subscribed to your channel. 🤟🏻🎸
