As a newly arrived foreign student at the University of Michigan, I was at a Mountain concert in 1970 in Ann Arbor. Yes, Mississippi Queen. The entire concert and American culture blew my mind. I absolutely worshiped the way America was, but I thought the building was going to collapse from the loud music and stumping/shaking by the audience. I was happy that I survived the concert and Mississippi Queen is still sounding in my head.
Yeah. Leslie was a "mountain" of a man in those days and a force of nature. What a set of pipes too.... in addition to the guitar chops, of course. Down to earth regular guy in real life also. Funny, humble. The "kid from Queens" was always there until he finally left us. RIP, man. Thanks for everything.

Hai ascoltato la loro canzone Dreams of milk and honey a Woodstock 1969? Ti proietta in un epoca primitiva,un sound ruggente e molto ruvido e potente per quel tempo. I remember in the early 70s hearing this track playing in a local record shop and I asked the counter guy about the band. It was on a Japanese import so pretty damn expensive but I just HAD to have it! Years later I went to see Leslie West play at a small venue in London. What a blast that was!!
I was a very big fan!!!! And I'm still that fan!! So lucky to see him live. I think 6 times. Saw him in this group. Felix and Corky were with him for a many shows. I was at 1 show about 8 feet from the stage and you could feel the energy coming out of the amps!! Unforgettable moments!!

Not many bands can pull off sounding better live. Not a knock at their studio versions, they're amazing, this is merely a testament to just how versatile they were. Mountain was so good.
They actually played this live in an era where everyone pretending to play while the radio recording was used. And he might be the only obese rocker in 1970 as everyone else was skinny from all of the drugs they were using, especially uppers. But man they sounded great here!

Most guitarist notice this song. The first time I saw it was on a beer commercial which was way after it was a hit. The magic of this song is it has a very simple pattern that can be played, but it never seems to come close to sounding like this.

Priceless. Their only hit single but what a classic it was. I remember 53 summers ago this was on every car radio as our DJs loved it.
When he was little, my son called this “Homer’s Song” because Homer cranks it up in his car in the Homerpalooza episode.
